Internetul a inceput ca o retea militara dar in zilele noastre nu conteaza ce facem , nu ne mai saturam de el. De la conexiunea dial-up la Wap si acum la retele fara fir cum este WiMAX, a fost un traseu lung, dar care pana la urma a meritat. Internetul este foarte aproape de a deveni gratuit si accesibil tuturor, asa cum ar trebui sa fie daca vrem sa toata lumea sa se bucure de beneficiile lui. Ati folosit vreodata WiMAX? Este un tip de conexiune fara fir care s-a lansat acum cativa ani si care intrece oricand acel tip de legatura. Aria de acoperire a WiMAX este mai larga la aceeasi viteza DSL si poate fi de pana la 30 de mile. Totusi, ea necesita receptoare speciale si carduri de acces pentru a transmite semnalul catre aparate obisnuite ca telefoanele mobile. Si s-ar putea sa ajunga in casele noastre foarte curand, deoarece anumite companii de telecomunicatii se straduiesc din greu sa o dezvolte. Sprint Nextel, una din companiile care ofera WiMAX, a semnat un contract cu Google care permite utilizatorilor sa beneficieze de servicii de cautare sau e-mail de la Google. Sprint vrea sa construiasca o retea wireless in toata America si a apelat la compania Clearwire pentru a o face sa mearga. HelloSoft este o alta firma care vrea sa profite la maxim de Internetul fara fir si a anuntat luna aceasta lansarea unui serviciu VoIP in WiMAX. In acest timp, Agilent Technologies Inc. si GCT Semiconductors Inc. incearca sa grabeasca procesul de introducere a tehnologiei pe scara larga, dezvoltand chipset-uri gata pentru productia in masa. Daca aceste companii entuziaste isi urmeaza visul si au succes, o sa avem Internet rapid si fara fir in calculatoare intr-un timp foarte scurt. Ar fi cazul sa ne pregatim cu un browser bun.
