Google brought in justice
by Claudia Sonea
Bravo to Google for the first quarter revenue and for the increase of the share price. The company overcame expectations and even seems to get back on its track. Is it true? In order to maintain the investors' interest Google has to keep registering performance and big incomes. Then the fact that is being sued for millions of dollars is a bad omen. Google is facing another lawsuit against Kabateck, Brown and Kellner (a law firm with whom in 2006 the Internet search giant reached a $90 million settlement). Both lawsuits were related to advertisers. The first one was for charging advertisers for traffic that doesn't end in any purchase, while the second one represents David Almeida, the owner of a private investigation business in Massachusetts who signed an advertising contract with Google Inc. In federal court Tuesday Google was accused of imposing the popular AdSense program which offers advertisers display on third-party Web sites complementing the AdWords program that offers the traditional pop-up of ads alongside the search results. The issue is that the maximum per-click bid was "optional" making advertisers believe that if left blank, then the AdSense will not be introduced as their option. In fact the advertisers should have put "zero". The complaint was filled to the U.S. District Court in San Jose, California, and seeks damages and class-action status. Google refused to comment on the matter and the lawyers did not disclose the total amount of money lost by the client. Still the client is to blame for not being more careful and taking interest in a problem that concerns him. If he did something without assuring of the correctitude of such an action, than he did wrong and he should pay the price. Why didn't he took the contract to a lawyer, to begin with?
