New Wii Games Find a Big (but Stingy) Audience
by Radka Konkolova

Nintendo is world-known Japanese company producing game consoles and games as well. The company had started with producing desk-consoles, but later they started to make also portable consoles, which became very famous and also very favourite, especially among children. Its mascot (I mean the mascot of the corporation) is Super Mario, who is a character or every or almost every game. The most known portable console has been the Game Boy series. I think there is no child, or at least a person in my age, who wouldn't know Super Mario. He was "hero" of our childhood. I remember how much time we spent playing this game either on desk-console mode in the nursery school or on Game Boy somewhere outside it.
Nintendo has introduced five desk game console till now and the last one is called Wii. This is the best console the creators have ever made. It includes even a motion-sensitive controller, so it has got better reactions to the objects and it could be used to the physical therapy as well, because sometimes the man have to move enough when gaming.
This year in March the firm introduced on the market a new game, played on this Wii console. The name of the game is Super Smash Bros. Brawl and it was the most anticipated game of the year. It is a game full of action and you have to think when playing and all old and some new characters meet there too. It could be truly interesting when Pokemons, Mario, Sony, Snake and many others meet. And people were looking forward it. In the first week there was a great demand for it, what is significant on the amount of sold game copies. In spite of this fact, probably some problems occur, because one month after the introduction, the interest in buying Super Smash decreased significantly. It could be caused either by not very good Wii's marketing from the Nintendo's side or maybe by bad advertisement from the retailers' side, when one of them has been warning people about using the Wii with the newest game because some customers even found out some defects with compatibility of the Super Smash game and Wii console. And after all, the store has refused to exchange the bad ones. Another possible problem can be the fact, that the games are mostly dedicated for the male hard-core gamers, which means that they are not interesting for children, females or even older men and could seem too difficult for these groups of people. Or maybe the problems are there because there is used less creative promotion, which would prove to make people interested in. But the solution is already thought out. The company want to introduce a new game next month, which should be a “bridge” between hard-core game players and casual players. Creators of this game and managers of the company too, expect much higher revenue from this game than they have ever received. We will see.
