More news from Comcast
by Claudia Sonea

Comcast Corp. is continuing its activity in spite of the federal investigation that hangs over its head due to the complaints for hampering with the way its subscribers use the Internet. On Thursday at the Merrill Lynch U.S. Media Conference in London Comcast senior vice president of investor relations, Marlene Dooner, offered an overview of the company’s future. We already know that they are trying to decongest Internet traffic through other means than blocking file-sharing networks and that is why it is collaborating with the Internet Engineering Task Force and other technology companies. Yet, they promise to not only solve this issue, but to offer by 2010 an Internet service that would enable subscriber to download a movie in just a couple of minutes at a speed of 100 MB/seconds. They are already working to this technology that will get to more than 20 percent of the subscribers by the end of this year, according to Dooner. US’ largest cable television company and the second largest Internet service provider is not wasting time and is aggressively chasing to overcome Verizon's fiber-optic Internet service. In addition by 2010 its analog television will go digital. In order to maintain itself on top Comcast offer economy plan and packages cutting one of the three services it offered up to now: phone, cable and Internet. Investors seem to be impressed by the Comcast performance and they too are not at all scared of the Federal Communication Commission and what it might do. In consequence the company’s shares rose 9 cents. This is quite an achievement in the current circumstances when Wall Street is struggling with the slide of shares.
