Google's Nexus One far behind Apple's iPhone
by Zivka Deleva

Surprisingly or not, it seems like the best search engine Google that decided to put some efforts in mobile telephones as well, didn’t succeed as expected. Google’s Nexus One smartphone definitely experienced big failure. In the first 74 days of sale, the numbers are astonishing different. Google sold scarcely 135.000 Nexus One units. Someone will ask why precisely 74 days? It is because three years ago, at the same timeframe, Apple sold 1 million iPhone units! And Motorola’s Droid sold even 50.000 more units! Nexus One is the first fully branded handset. OK, numbers say everything, or almost everything! If iPhone was the first of the smartphones on market it had the big task to attract people and it did. On the other hand, maybe that is one of the reasons shy Motorola had even bigger success when promoted it’s Droid. Other important reasons for Google’s flop might be the fact that it started selling at the end of the shopping season, unlike its! rivals and it decided to sell only by its own web site, rather than in stores! And, in fact, Google didn’t spend a lot of money on marketing the smartphone. "Google Nexus One may go down as a grand, failed experiment or one that ultimately helped Google learn something that will prove important in years to come. Apple's more vertically integrated strategy vs. Google's more open Android platform approach offer strengths and weaknesses that remind us of PC vs. Mac from the 1980's," – wrote Peter Farago from mobile analytics company Flurry, that made the research. On the other hand, Google management is satisfied with its mobile first newborn. According to some experts, Google’s goal is to influence with its the Android software. You can buy Nexus One for $529 or if contracted with T-Mobile, you can buy it for $179. When it first came, iPhone costed $600 and Droid, on the other hand was only $200.
