American expatriates voting online
by Sandra Stoklaskova

Great news for American Democrats living abroad! This year they can on the first time in their lives vote online. This huge opportunity for expatriates to cast their ballots on the Internet allows them to vote for their representative anywhere they are. Democrats Abroad is an official branch of the party representing overseas voters. Thanks to them Americans can select their candidates by the Internet, fax, mail and in-person, too, in about 100 countries. The main point of this project was to provide the security of the whole system, and his authors are sure, that they succeed. "The online system is incredibly secure: That was one of our biggest goals," said Lindsey Reynolds, executive director of Democrats Abroad. U.S. citizens, who would like to vote online, must join the democrats before February 1 and must prove their preference to vote by the Internet. They also have to promise not to vote for a president twice. Than they get a personal identification number from the company running the online elections- Everyone Counts Inc. This number they can use to log in and cast their ballots. "We've had no security breaches. We do constant monitoring;" said Lori Steele, chief executive officer of Everyone Counts Inc .She is convinced that online voting "provides really a higher standard of security than is available in any other kind of system, including paper." We just have to hope, that this system will be working properly, and maybe a couple of years later we just can sit on our comfortable sofa and vote for the president.
