Google Android Phone

A prototype cell phone based on Android would be demonstrated by Instruments Inc. Creator of this mobile phone operating system is Web search leader Google Inc. The PDA Dual Net Phone aka the GW4 is a smart phone with QWERTY keyboard and touch screen. It is running a version of MontaVista Linux 2.6. The GW4 also has a 2.5- inch, 320X240 touch screen and 2- megapixel camera. The GW4 is based on a TI OMAP 1710 chipset with a 216- MHz processor and only 64 MB of program memory. Cellular GPRS network will be complemented by 802.11g Wi- Fi with a built- in SIP VOIP client for internet calling. The phone will come in two tri- band GSM/GPRS versions. One is prepared for Europe and Asia and one for U.S. About 30 companies (TI is a part of them) said that that they will support Google's operating system based on Linux. Plans to selling Android- based phones are also common for service provider Deutsche Telekom's T- Mobile and Taiwanese phone maker High Tech computer. By U.S. chip maker, the phone demonstrated at the Mobile World Congress trade show will have "one button access" to key applications such as messaging and video, e- mail, Web browsing, helping consumers to use such features more easily. ARM Holdings Plc, UK chip designer is also going to show prototypes of devices based on Android at the show.
