Chris Cantell Discusses Technologies: New Sidekicks on the way
by Nina Gotzmannova

In a fairy tale, sidekick is a person, who helps a partner in a superior position. The real-life Sancho Panzas and Doctor Watsons sell T-Mobile. Its Sidekick cell phones welcome two new siblings, Sidekick LX on 17 October and Sidekick Slide on 7 November. Both will contain several interesting upgrades. The first newcomer, Sidekick LX, is a luxurious object for demanding clients. For example the screen will have twice the resolution that of its forerunner Sidekick 3. It has also a slightly different look. Sidekick LX is slimmer and looks more elegant. This model is also the first Sidekick which allows to text messages with attached pictures. According to T-Mobile the Sidekick users are mostly young people who are texting often and the company wants to make them their favorite activity as pleasant as possible. But by adding new design they want also to gain attention of new customers. The name of the second cell phone is Sidekick Slide. The name was not chosen because it will have a slippery look, but because of its new technology. For the first time the cell phone won't be made by Sharp Corp., which produces other Sidekicks, but by Motorola Inc. Change of the company brought also a technology step forward. Slide is smaller and the screen won't swivel when revealing the keyboard. It will slide. It is also more concentrated on messaging. The first Sidekick was launched in 2002. It has grayscale screen. The second one, Sidekick 2, already had a color screen and two new buttons. The third edition of this cell phone is probably the most popular version. Sidekick 3 has a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, EDGE network, a mini SD slot, a mini MP3 player and more. T-Mobile also announced a new BlackBerry able to make and receive calls not only via cellular network, but via WiFi too.
