Tesla on the road
by Claudia Sonea
Good news for environmentalists worldwide: there is a new no emissions car on the market. Still, the bad news is for people everywhere, because its engine powered by a lithium-ion battery poses a lot of risks, not to mention that it is meant to last at the most 100,000 miles, after which it requires recharging from the nearest plug. Tesla Motors, a Silicon Valley automobile startup company named after Nikola Tesla, is the manufacturer of the car mentioned above. For a business as old as 5 years and no product on the market up to 2007, this one is doing great and already has as clients celebrities like Arnold Schwarzenegger, George Clooney, Will.i.am and others. In 2006 it first introduced the prototypes of the car called: Tesla Roadster and by August 2007 600 models were reserved. The all-electric sports car will be available for purchase even to people that are not famous, but can afford spending between $109,000 and $12400 after Tesla will open its first store next week in Los Angeles (interesting spot they chose, I guess Hollywood has nothing to do with) and next month the second one near Tesla's headquarters. It is still a long way for anyone to get such a car and even the ones that reserved one have to wait until it will be delivered. Since January 2008, Elon Musk, Chairman of the Board, enjoys driving the first production model because he deals the cards, but until March next year all the 600 cars will get to their owners. What will they get? A car that gets from 0 to 60 mph in less than four seconds and drives 225 miles on one charge. You would be surprised how quick you can charge its battery: in 3.5 hours and has the benefit of saving the planet from a rapid destruction. That’s a wonder-car that personally would love to have; the only problem is where would I get the money from. Keep your eyes on the road.
