New Google box for offices can search 10 million files
by Paulina Neshybova
Company Google Inc. ( GOOG.O) announced on Tuesday that they have a new product, or better, an upragaded product of hardware appliance. It is lucrative, because it can store and search Office documents for government organizations or other companies.
This new upgraded version of the Google search Appliance is a Web search leader and it is in the size of a pizza box. But what is important is the fact that it can store up to 10 million documents with a self-contained search system. And this version is also more useful because it has the same capacity as the last version which was in a five- box rack. As we know this is not the biggest version, as Google offers also the one with capacity of storage about 30 million documents in a 12 box rack. This new smaller in size, but bigger in apacity version is running on storage hardware from Dell Inc.
It is important for the Office workers as they can find documents from various store houses as EMC Corp's (EMC.N) Documentum, IBM's (IBM.N) FileNet, Open Text's (OTC.TO) LiveLink and Microsoft Corp's (MSFT.O) SharePoint. It also has new better encryptions and it can also notify the user that there are some new documents on the network by their colleagues. It can be managed in 27 languages including Vietnamese or Czech, but users can have results in not less than 40 languages. There are speculations if Google is the market leader although they do not tell it about themsleves. However, they do not reveal the revenue for the businees, but the estimation is that 98 percent of it is from advertising.
