One Step Behind
by Milota Sidorova

Wednesday was supposed to be a day D for Microsoft. A new on-line sharing image library tool was about to be launched. Yes, we are talking about new release of Photosynth, declared as revolutionary web site, generating 3 dimensional pictures of its users. The idea was simple as well. First it is a bare snapshot. However, Photosynth can create a full video sight around. Its strategy is based on searching the similarities of the pictures and generating empty pixels to finalize fully 360 degrees view. It is a logical Flash supported extension of current Google's Street view.

Smart enough and good to spent few hours stuck on the visually attractive pictures of National Geographic, one of the leading partners, but pictures even from your grandmother's garden. Everyone is free to share the images. For so long, Photosynth will create all the surrounding.

Moreover, users can pan and zoom as demanded. That's the good news.

Hence divine graphic results, one must be sure this game will take its piece of a cake. As for required software, Photosynth can be systematically run only on Microsoft's Windows (XP or Vista). For those unhappy Mac users, there's a possibility for Boot Camp. Photosynth doesn't accept any other alternatives.
As for required graphics, 256 MB is a minimum, it can optimally run when 1GB. Photosynth is supported by Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox 2,3 version.
More than clear enough, 3D magics are not available on slow machines.

Naturally, such a bid can attract a lot of attention. Pompous demo launch was planned on Wednesday's morning at London's Eye where apart all the marketing stuff, even top management wasn't that sure about proper run. The problem was an instability of capacity storage system, so the site wouldn't be able to load in serious time.

So it has happened. Photosynth spent most of the day off-line. What's the great customer's disappointment on one side is fierce programing work on the other side. After almost a day, Microsoft was successful to add some extra space, so the system was theoretically running on Thursday's morning.

One may say, Microsoft fell from the cloud once again. For this time, Photosynth seems to be running properly and impatience, perhaps disappointed users have to satisfy with a bare apologize.

So it is in the world of data.
