NEW YORK, August 17 – The results of the Pew Research Center's biannual survey on news consumption habits were released Sunday. According to the survey a number of Americans getting their news online still grows to the prejudice of getting news from newspapers. However, the number one source of information in the U.S. remains television. Also, a chose of the form of an information source depends on different human age categories. Younger people seem to prefer to get their news on Internet, while the older people tend to use more traditional sources of news, for instance watching televison and reading newspapers.
Further the research revealed that a group of people who use both traditional and technological medias to get the information still rise. Such a group of people are called integrators and are considered as representatives of older, sophisticated, highly educated and affluent social rank. In general, Web-directed consumers (cca 13 percent of asked) are also considered to belong to the group of educated people, with the difference that mostly they are of younger age categories (with a median age of 35). Research said, they are twice as likely to read an online newspaper than a printed version. According to the survey, the largest group of researched people - cca 46 percent, are television consumers. Such consumers are in general the oldest (median age of 52), and least affluent people (with great percentage of an unemployment).
“The survey was conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates International. It polled 3,615 adults 18 years or older by telephone between April 30 and June 1, and has a margin of error of 2 percentage points,“ ( Jeremy Herron, AP Business Writer).
