Verdict of U.N. judge: Scotch boy must give up Narnia Website
by Petra Kamenicka

The U.N. organization WIPO-patent and copyright agency said in its official report on Thursday, that independent arbitrator had ordered transfer of the web page www.narnia.mobi to the property of C.S. Lewis, who is author of the books “Chronicles of Narnia”. This ruling means, that Scottish boy Comrie Saville-Smith, 11, must surrender his Web page based on Narnia fantasy world. The address was given to him as a birthday present by his father.
This judicium has awaked a plenty of emotions and opinions. Parents were given advance notice of the ruling and they were surprised by the verdict. Gillian, the mother of boy told the newspaper in Scotland: ,,We are shocked by the decision.” She explains their intention to fight for their rights: ,,We put a spirited fight because we wanted to prove that you do not have to hand something over just because someone richer and more powerful tells you to do so.”
The whole case was brought to WIPO in May, after parents of boy rejected to sell the domain, which they bought for 70 sterling in 2006.
But the Lewis estate’s lawyers Barker and McKenzie are defending themselves. They say, that boy’s father Richard was not acting in full honesty, as he registered other Narnia-based pages, like freenarnia.mobi, after the case was filed.
Other specialist, Towns, trademark specialist from Texas said that he was not convinced Saville-Smith had not attempted to get rich from narnia.mobi, as he allowed it to be linked to commercial sites. Of course, Saville-Smith denied these accusations.
