Will the Droid beat iPhone?
by Zuzana Zelenakova
It was not so long ago that Verizon informed about its plans to use Google Inc software package called Android in one of its new gadgets. Now TV ads promoting ´The Droid´ can be seen everywhere. And it is quite obvious from them that the cell phone, that is a product of cooperation between Verizon Wireless and Motorola, has every intention to beat Apple´s iPhone. With tagline "Everything iDon't. Droid does." it targets all the imperfections in iPhone in a rather aggressive way. It seems the saying “what goes around comes around” is true enough as Apple used a similar marketing strategy a few years ago in its 'I'm a Mac' ads set to illustrate the ! differences between Mac and PC. From what is known about the Droid so far it is clear it has very good chances to beat iPhone in the market. In the past the cell phones set to accomplish this mission, such as Blackberry Storm or Palm Pre failed to do so. The possible iPhone killer is provided with 3.7 inch (9,4 cm) display capable of 854 × 480 resolution and the thinnest physical slide-out keyboard so far. In addition, it includes GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 and also 5 megapixel camera, with video recording, flash and autofocus of course. The Droid seems to have captured all the attention these days which certainly does not please T-mobile which is coming to the market with its new Android smart phone just now. Even though The Cliq, also developed by Motorola, has received some acclaim it is a poor result compared to the Droid. As Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell MaAdam stated the company has put “substantial resources” into manufacturing and promoting the Android! gadgets. However, the exact number is not known. Originally M! otorola was using Microsoft´s Windows Mobile software in its smart phones, but they did not pay off evidently.
