Will 3-D laptops become a success?
by Zuzana Zelenakova

In the world of technology there is always something new. This time it is all about 3D laptops released by Asus, Acer and others released only recently. Laptops go with special glasses that enable us to see also in the third dimension. By the way, do you know how does 3D work? Well, we humans use so called binocular vision to see the world around us in depth. It is based on the fact that eyes are set several inches apart, which causes that each eye sees the world from a slightly different perspective. Brain puts together these two views. In order to see in 3D on the flat screen different images are projected into each eye. Now, back to the laptops. The Asus model comes wit! h Nvidia´s 3D Vision technology and costs about $1,700 while Acer´s Aspire 5738DG uses a pair of passive polarized glasses and a special screen coating to achieve the result, the price is $780. Nvidia system, on the other hand, uses active glasses and USB-powered IR emitter that makes glasses work. With the Sharp laptop, for example, you don´t need to wear glasses at all, what you need to do is to hold your head in a certain position. Acer´s Aspire requires combination of glasses and keeping your head in particular spot. It doesn´t sound very comfortable, does it? All in all, 3D laptops are still a novelty and the reviews done so far suggest it will take some time to adapt to the third dimension on small screens. In addition, the vision is not perfect at all times and you need to mind your glasses and in some cases even the position of your head, which can be tiresome after a while. For now, it seems 2D gaming remains more convenient and much easier! to handle.
