New Your Times rend payant ses nouvelles sur Web
by Barbora Misakova

by Barbora Misakova

Njuz” informiraše deka ovie nasoki obid-po-obid kje pokrivaat 74 državi na 46 jazika I seto toa kje bide besplatno. Nokia offers free navigation to smartphone users
by Magdalena Rosova

Have you thought that smartphones are so smart that they can not be any more smarter? If you answered yes, you are wrong. The world's top mobile phone maker, the Finish company Nokia, said it would offer maps and navigation services for its smartphone users for free. This decision puts new pressure in the GPS industry. Jukka Hosio, director of Nokia's services marketing, told reporters that Nokia is offering navigation in 74 countries, in 46 languages. For Nokia smartphone users these maps are free from this moment. Nokia has probably decided for this move because of Google's promise that next year it would offer free navigation to users of Motorola's Droid cellphone model in the United States. Nokia responded quickly and promised free navigation for everyone, not only Americans. This way Nokia threatened key companies in the global navigation market, such as Tom Tom and Garmin. Thanks to smartphones that support navigation these companies suffer a lot. Consultancy f! irm iSupply expected the GPS makret to decrease in 2009. After years of success and big growth iSupply said the market would fall off in the longer term. iSupply further forecast that the market would rebound this year and the following one. In addition Isupply expects the number of smartphone with navigation to exceed the number of GPS devices bz 2014. After Nokia released the news Tom Tom's shares fell 6.96 percent and Garmin's fell 2.72 percent. Nokia takes this step to regain the leading position in the global smartphone market, which it has lost thanks to its rivals such as Apple's iPhone or RIM's BlackBerry.

New York Times to Charge Online Readers
by Barbora Misakova

Do you remember those days, when browsing through the big pages of newspapers during traveling on the bus was making you feel so awkward? Do you remember the feeling that someone standing above you is reading your newspapers? And what about constant threat of being attacked by heavy and thick newspapers while the reader is trying to turn over a new leaf? For many of you it is a history. These days you are sitting in your offices and just simply clicking on the web and browsing. To find particular information is not such a big deal and what’s more you can be drinking your morning coffee without being disturbed. Today, everything is on the web. Moreover it is for free! ! Actually, it WAS. One of the most popular American newspapers – The New York Times decided to start charging for news on their website. As print subscriptions and advertising sales fall, starting with charges seems to be a way how to survive. For loyal fans who get the paper delivered at home in old printed version there would be a privilege: free access to the website. Of course, thorny question is what about the online readers. Will they pay for Web news or will they start buying printed newspapers? There is also another, but not so profitable alternative: they lose an interest completely. Decreasing number of website’s visitors will mean lower attraction for advertisers. Today, the New York Times site has around 20 million unique visitors a month. Imagine that at least half of them already saw your advertisement. It must be a good feeling, or not? But if there are no online visitors it means that any advertisements will be seen and that means no profit for ad! vertisers. But that is just one of many problems connected wit! h this c ase. Let’s see what happen.

Youtube Features on Sundace Film Festival
by Milota Sidorova

Sundance Film Festival is generally known as the independent opposite of Academy Awards simply called Oscars. Like every year, the last days of January this festival takes place in Salt Lake City, Utah. The program is traditionally focused on independent American and international cinema and documentaries. This year, however, there will be a small update.Movie businesses, just like any other entertaining businesses overcomes a crisis caused by illegal distribution and declining interest of real-time visitors. The marketing strategy is trying to reach everywhere to make the movies profitable. It's true you don't have even pay for movie, if you don't want to. But if you reall! y enjoy a movie, you would be able to support the filmmaker. This year Youtube, internet searching engine is cooperating with Sundance Festival, offering the U.S. customers a possibility to see the movies via its channel. Simply, it's a streaming, not the purchasing. It is a difference compared to Apple iTunes store or other online sellers. Youtube also announced it was ready to protect author's rights by not taking them. While iTunes Store, Netflix, Hulu require to hold the rights to be the major distributor, Youtube is free of this. It's motto is “Pick your prize”, so filmmakers and studio can decide the prize that customer will pay for streaming and will be free to use any other distribution company.Whether it will be a successful model is a question of time and the promotion. For now, Sundance Film Festival fans will be able to watch 48 hours of nominated movies for $4...

Nokia nasleduje Google
by Barbora Misakova

Strach z nového a silného konkurenta nenechal ostatných dlho chladnými.

Nokia is following Google
by Barbora Misakova

As it seems, Google is a real master. Everyone on the market is watching Google’s steps and making decisions based on them. Google as an American public corporation is not specializing only in Internet search anymore. It also generates profits from advertising and lately they have developed also a mobile phone operating system. In 2004 Google acquired a company Keyhole, Inc. which developed a product called Earth Viewer, today known as Google Earth. And that was another step to ruling the world. Google’s first mobile phone G1 won’t be ordinary smart phone with touch screen and other “useful” features. As Google wants to boost its market positio! n even more, it decided to offer free maps on its cell phones. They started in late 2009 with Motorola’s Droid model Smartphone which was offering free navigation. And the competitors didn’t hesitate long. Nokia decided to follow Google and to boost handset sales. Up to the moment Nokia was charging for navigation packages including turn-by-turn directions, but from now on that is a history. Even though spokesman for Nokia declined to comment, Yahoo! News informed that these turn-by-turn directions will be covering 74 countries in 46 languages and that’s all for free. As the turn-by-turn navigation has been one of the key revenue sources for Nokia, there is still a question hanging in the air: can Nokia generate revenue enough to compensate for the revenue streams they kill? John Strand, chief executive of Danish telecoms consultancy Strand Consult, who was asking this question thinks that the only way how to go through it is to increase hardware sales and! average sales prices.
