I remember well my first experience with Internet. I was about 16-year-old and I was desperately in love with one Australian rock band. My first attempt of surfing on the net last for hours and all that time I was browsing through the internet looking for some promo pictures of this band. My main man and assistant was Google’s image search service. That day I downloaded hundreds of pictures and I remember it well how much I loved Google. After almost ten years of its launch Google announces its image search service needs some makeover. In the time of its debut (in 2001) this image search had “only” 250 million of images indexed. Today there are more than 1! 0 billion of images available on Google search and this service delivers over a billion page views a day. With such popularity it is the high time for a change. The company wants to upgrade the service with both a redesign of the service’s look and also technical enhancements. The new changes will reportedly help user to find the precise image he is looking for. As Google Images Product Manager, Nate Smith said: “We not only find images for pretty much anything you type in, we can also instantly pull out images of clip art, line drawing, faces and even colors.” That can be very handy, especially for those ones working with images all the time. This redesigned image search service is currently only available at 10 percent of Google’s users, but company plans to put out the new service in stages over the news few weeks.

Veľmi dobre si pamätám moju prvú skúsenosť s internetom. Mala som asi 16 rokov a bola som zúfalo zamilovaná do jednej austrálskej rockovej skupiny. Môj prvý pokus o surfovanie na internete trval hodiny a na jeho konci som odchádzala ako vo vytržení so stovkami propagačných obrázkov tejto skupiny poukladaných na disketách. Mojim najlepším priateľom a spolupracovníkom bol od toho dňa vyhľadávač obrázkov od spoločnosti Google. Od tej doby Google milujem a táto láska mi akosi vydržala až do dnešných dn! 7;. Po takmer 10 rokoch existencie tejto vyhľadávajúcej služby prichádza spoločnosť s novými zmenami. V čase svojho debutu (bolo to v roku 2001) mal tento vyhľadávací nástroj v ponuke „len“ 250 miliónov obrázkov. Dnes už je ich viac ako 10 miliárd, pričom je táto služba využívaná takmer miliardou ľudí denne. S takou popularitou už bol veru najvyšší čas na zefektívnenie tejto služby. Spoločnosť chce zmodernizovať službu nielen po stránke jej dizajnu, ale tiež po technickej stránke. Nové zmeny by údajne mali pomôcť užívateľovi nájsť rýchlejšie a jednoduchšie práve taký obrázok, aký hľadá. Ako Nate Smith, manažér pre oblasť obrazového vyhľadávania Google p! ovedal: „Nielen že vyhľadávame obráz! ky č ;ohokoľvek, čo naši používatelia do vyhľadávača zadajú, ale sme tiež schopní okamžite vyhľadať a ponúknuť obrázky v rozličných formátoch akou sú napr. clip art, perokresba, obrázky tvárí či dokonca obrázky triedené podľa farieb.“ A to môže byť veru viac ako užitočné, predovšetkým pre ľudí, ktorí dennodenne pracujú s najrozličnejšími obrázkami či logami. Táto prerobená služba je momentálne prístupná asi len 10 percentám užívateľov vyhľadávača Google, no ako spoločnosť uviedla, plánuje túto novú službu postupne sprístupňovať aj ostatným svojím zákazníkom a to v priebehu najbližších týždňov.
