You know how it goes. You can be the best at something, but after some time, all your high prized abilities are suddenly insufficient. That is nothing new. But in the technological sphere, time goes much quicker than anywhere else. Corporations such as Microsoft Corp. or Intel Corp. could talk about it. Intel, the world’s biggest maker of computer chips, realized quite soon it can’t afford to ignore its huge blind spot in mobile phones. Although eighty percent of today’s PCs use Intel processors, they are lagging behind in production of smart phones processors. As Intel’s products need more power, devices’ batteries are discharged much quicker,! and that is intolerable for smart-phone makers. Intel did not hesitate and decided to buy the wireless-chip division of Germany’s Infineon Technologies AG. Intel, which bought mobile software maker Wind River Systems last summer, tries to spread its technological abilities by another investment. And the purchasing of company which chips are used in Apple Inc.’s popular iPhone mobiles was the best move. As it seems, Intel is not finished yet. Two weeks ago, Intel informed about its plans to buy also computer-security software maker McAfee Inc. for $7.68 billion. If the company gets approvals, it will be the biggest acquisition in Intel’s 42-year history. But while Intel “arms”, there are many analysts not that optimistic about Intel’s chances. They are pointing to its spotty track record with acquisitions when they, by words of analyst Craig Berger, say: “We feel like we have seen this movie before.” However, David Perlmutter,! an Intel executive vice president, hopes “we have learn! ed our l essons and that we are way more focused.”
