Ray Ozzie leaving Microsoft by Zuzana Zelenakova

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced some time ago that the company´s Chief Software Architect Ray Ozzie is to leave the computer giant after transition period. Ozzie who is considered a great visionary is best known for his role in creating Lotus Notes, that is, before joining Microsoft. In 2005, Microsoft acquired his company Groove Networks, in 2008, Ozzie was promoted to Chief Software Architect as a replacement for Bill Gates. In the same year he became to work for Microsoft Ozzie wrote famous seven page internal memo entitled The Internet Services Disruption regarding Internet-based cloud computing, where software and information are not stored on machines, but! provided on demand. Upon his departure Ozzie stressed the importance of simplicity for the future computer industry. In other words, Ozzie most likely does not approve that Microsoft still prefers the traditional Windows/Office powerhouse rather than the cloud Azure architecture. Many expected that sooner or later Ozzie would break from Microsoft as there was no real connection between him and the teams he was supposed to lead. You’ve got to wonder how Ray Ozzie, the chief strategist brought in to forge Microsoft’s cloud thinking, can prosper in this environment where a half dozen company presidents report into the CEO, Steve Ballmer, but not to him,“ as Barbara Darrow, senior news editor at SearchITChannel.com pointed out months ago. Ozzie probably meant his words as a wake up call for Microsoft that had fallen behind Apple Inc and Google Inc in an extremely competitive phone and tablet computer sector. "Close our eyes and form a realistic picture of w! hat a post-PC world might actually look like, if it were to ev! er truly occur," wrote Ozzie in a memo posted on his personal blog on Monday. "Those who can envision a plausible future that's brighter than today will earn the opportunity to lead."
