Bloggers versus reporters
by Barbora Misakova

I was watching one movie yesterday. Quite a good movie I would say. It was about photojournalists and their status in the rest of the society. As they were taking pictures from very important events, especially various ethnic cleansings and wars, their names and faces become not only famous but they also represent something like a walking truth. They were regarded as very important person who even during a war have some kind of immunity. No one should touch them, and even though there were cases when some of them died, their certificate of press was still some kind of life-jacket. And the same we could say about our (normal) reporters. Even though they are not traveling to dangerous destinations, taking pictures of dead people and risking their own lives, they are still treated with respect. Doors are open to them and anywhere they want to go, they just get there. As a sentence: “I am from press!” was some kind of magical key which opens every door. Reporters are just welcomed everywhere they come – maybe because of the respect of others, but maybe it is more because of fear what they write about us.

We couldn’t say so about the bloggers. Until now. It seems that politicians (and especially the most of the people reading newspapers) are little bit sick of those “traditional” reporters from The Times and New York Tribune who are “very stale and programmed.” (Daily Kos)
People want to read fresh news which didn’t go through media filter. They want to know how it really is and bloggers have one important advantage – they were always writing like that. They don’t need to learn it. They just picture things as they are. Few years ago, when the using of internet was at its beginning, little groups of bloggers started to arise. Usually it was about one or two people doing it at their free time. But now bigger groups of them exist, they are still growing, and many of bloggers do blogging as their job. These days internet represents inseparable source of information, for the ordinary people as for the politics. There is no surprise that bloggers got a chance from politics to get closer, to get to the convention floor. As said Cheryl Contee, the founder of JackandJillpolitics.com, “blogs have become important because there’s been a declining trust in the mainstream media.”
