by kristina leskova
Sprint is a telecommunication company based in Kansas. The company owns and operates the third largest wireless telecommunications network in the United States, with nearly 52 million customers. The two companies that are larger are AT&T Mobility and Verizon Wireless. In the United States, the company also operates the second largest wireless broadband network. Wireless Broadband is a fairly new technology that provides high-speed wireless internet and data network access over a wide area. Wireless broadband technologies also include new services like you can purchase a PC card, laptop card, or USB equipment to connect your PC or laptop to the Internet via cell phone. The company exists since the year 2005. It was created by purchasing the Nextel Communications by Sprint Corporation. Sprint uses 4G network by utilizing WiMAX technology. It is expected that it will reach 100 metropolitan areas and 100 million people by the end of 2008. Sprint expects that the costs will be over 3 billion dollars to upgrade the existing network to WiMAX technology, called Xohm. Motorola, Nokia and Samsung are interest in developing WiMAX phones. This would allow customers to utilize both networks. More recently, Google and Sprint announced a formal partnership in deploying WiMAX technology. Sprint announced that the 4G network is currently being brought to Chicago and Baltimore-Washington, D.C. markets. At first these test markets could use only Sprint employees, but now they are be available to the general public, too. How much does it cost to the customers of wireless network? The Internet for laptops costs 45 dollars per month.
