News from Nokia
by Claudia Sonea
Are you dependent of your cell phone? Don’t worry; there are only a few millions of people who deal the same addiction. Life in the fast lane implies a lot of things among which the necessity to be in touch at all time comes on top of the list. Now, because there are so many brands of cell phones and so many carriers, it has become a serious matter to purchase one and for them a total rush to get as many customers as they can.
The latest trend in the mobile phones’ industry is the touch screen feature that drove everyone crazy. Apple was the fist one launching on the market the incredible iPhone on June 2007 and a year later the iPhone 3G which made it obvious that the other smartphones producers must join in the trend or lose market. RIM already launched the BlackBerry Storm that has touch screen feature, but technically it is not a match for the iPhone. Sony Ericsson's X1 and HTC's Touch Pro in spite of the touch screen can hardly be called rivals for Apple that is, but for Nokia they are perfectly valid. The world's top mobile phone maker continues to lead the global market for smartphones- handsets; however Apple and RIM are getting closer and closer.
As it is, the new Nokia N97 handset was anticipated by all analysts, thus after the hits N95 and N96, Nokia wants to launch next year this new phone with large touch screen, a full-qwerty keyboards and a price similar to the older models ($693). The Vice President of Nokia's Devices unit was very excited about the new product and announced also the acquisition of mobile software maker Symbian on Tuesday. It is to early to say anything about the product we just have to wait to give it a try.
