Is This a Real Progress?
by Milota Sidorova

It is impossible when you realize how far we have come during the life of just one generation. My grandfather who was living all his life in the village under the mountains washed himself in the small river, he was eating potatoes and now at the age of 88 years he is surprised to eat ice cream cocktail. He reminds me how unbearable luxury it is. For me – a kid of past 80’s it sounds like a wind blowing from the distance. Yesterday I have learnt my mother to use Skype – so we could talk via internet and save our phone calls. For you people who read this blog on internet it will be a reason to chuckle, but here comes the idea. It all came so quickly that ! a little bit older human being feels confused. Imagine the mess in his or her mind when looking around. We have speed highways, personal cars, notebooks, internet that is penetrating our loves, we have younger generation that looses contact with reality – instead it prefers reality shown on digital TV or websites. Personally, despite my 23 years I am having troubles talking to teen something. They are changing. And while we’re using advantages of technological progress we get huge scale of its disadvantages. I am not saying that we all should turn off our computers and run to the meadow. I am saying – look! The kids are getting fattier and cheekier than ever – while eating their fast foods and screaming out loud – the products which are still seen as a sign of civilization, they are kidding about vegetables or traditional meals. It has to be cool, it has to be shiny, it has to be plastic, it has to communicate, it has to be new. Realize. Real! ize that horror. We’re having all forms of communication! s right away, but how do we communicate? How often you enjoy the pleasure of accidental good talk with someone? Don’t you get lost commenting anonymous status on internet discussions? We’re getting something better, newer and we are continuously forgetting of real values. Technology is a tool, not the aim of our times. And I am still not mentioning environmental impact of creation each one device, communication connection, car, highway, pipeline, city, coca cola can, shiny plastic packet and our increasing apathy to everything and everybody else. According the words of Kurt Cobain, the times he became a real celebrity he wasn’t happier than the young, fresh Cobain with the idea of changing a little something in the world. We get more, but what do we get?
