Developing iPad Apple Inc. has hoped to create a new category of device, something between a smartphone and a laptop computer. With flash memory of 16 to 64 gigabytes and LED multi-touch screen the iPad uses the company´s iBooks ebook reading application. The device runs operating system used also in iPhone and iPod touch called iPhone OS, to be more precise its modified version. Although the reactions were mixed when Apple announced the iPad, later reviews were more or less positive. The most enthusiastic ones called the gadget “one of the best computers ever” or simply “a winner”. “The iPad beats even my most optimistic expectations. Th! is is a new category of device. But it also will replace laptops for many people," said Michael Arrington of TechCrunch in his review. Monday was the official launch day for the iPad and according to the Apple´s statement 300,000 tablet computers were sold. The figure includes also the preorders. In addition, more than one million iPad applications and about 250,000 e-books from the company´s iBookstore were downloaded during the weekend before the launch. "It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world--it's going to be a game changer," Apple CEO Steve Jobs said Monday. The iPad is half-inch (1,27 cm) thick, weighs about 1.5 pounds (circa 670 grams) and its battery should last from eight to ten hours, in standby it should be a month. You can buy 16, 32 or 64 GB size. It will cost you $499 for 16GB version, $599 for 32GB and $699 for 64GB. "The launch went pretty much as expected; it was well received," said Shannon Cross of Cross Research. "There is wid! espread enthusiasm for the product, but it's a new category, a! nd it wi ll take time for people to understand it."
