Exalogic and rivality between Oracle and HP by Milota Sidorova

Perhaps it was just a matter of time when IT companies will launch products that will tightly combine softwares and hardwares. Oracle, the world third biggest software seller unveils Exalogic – based on so called „cloud“ computing. Shortly it is a server, storage and networking technology that is optimized for huge volume of business applications. Exalogic should be ideal platform joining many existing applications on a single platform. Applications should run up to 17 times faster. Oracle suggested that Exalogic cost should represent maximum up to 40 percent of traditional environments. Exalogic was recently launched on annual Oracle technology and user c! onference that was opened by Chief Executive Larry Ellison, a disputed person who hired Mark Hurd, ousted CEO at HP. Hurd who took place of Charles Phillips on September 6th is currently a co-president of rival company. Because it was HP that was selling Oracle's products with its hardware. The relationship went to zero temperatures although companies were business partners for more than two decades. The direct rivality appeared when Oracle pushed into server market and conference gave some hints – Ellison didn't appear on stage with any HP executives. But Ann Livermore, HP enterprise business manager had a speech on OpenWorld conference and despite current Hurd affair she noted that HP was hiring about 12,000 IT employees who were working on Oracle systems. And Oracle seemed to be doing good, at least according to last week's reports. The company was ridden by strong demand for its new business software and increasing growth in a hardware business.
