AT&T gets GetJar
by Zivka Deleva
GetJar is an independent mobile phone application store founded in Lithuania in 2004, with offices in San Mateo, California and Vilnius. It allows software developers to upload their applications for free through a developer portal and the rate currently is 3 million downloads a day. These facts make this mobile application competitive with huge companies like Google Inc. and Research in motion. After collaborations with Sprint and Rogers (Canada), news about Get Jar are coming from the second largest U.S mobile provider AT&T saying that from Tuesday 9th of November they will release this application for 50 different types of mobile phones ranging from the company's cheape! st phones to BlackBerry Smartphone. They are offering management on all applications installed through the dedicated software “The demand for apps continues to soar and many operators and other third parties are eager to introduce or add to an existing app store, without needing to manage the sourcing and moderating of thousands of individual apps,” said Ilja Laurs, founder and CEO of GetJar. By downloading the GetJar app, AT&T customers benefit from access to thousands of applications ranging from games, social networking, sports, entertainment and productivity applications. All applications are managed by GetJar. Some experts say that this is a way AT&T to improve their status since everyone are expecting for them to lose the right of exclusivity on iPhone sell next year. Anyway it sounds interesting and it is worth to try. If interested you can find it on the AT&T AppCenter in the Applications category.
