Apple and Microsoft are the legends of the computer world. Along with them, their owners Steve Jobs and Bill Gates have also become, over time, two of the richest and most iconic figures of the IT world. It just wouldn't be the same without them. They have always been rivals and their products have never worked together; while Apple's Macintosh computer has become the number one choice when it comes to video editing, Microsoft has been dominating the PC universe ever since the release of the 3.1 version of Windows. But recently, Apple started to change things. They released computers based on Intel processors, after years of only working with IBM components, and now the news that they intend to release a VMWare program called Fusion that will allow Windows, Linux and Solaris applications to run at the same time on the Mac. No rebooting required and the virtual machine allows users to make restore points at any given time when the system is stable. VMWare Fusion can run 60 operating systems and allows the use of both 32-bit and 64-bit software. Since the release of the beta version in December 2006, hundreds of thousands of people have downloaded it and tested it against its rival, Desktop for Mac from Parallels. The judges are still deciding on this one. This innovative and long-awaited program is available for free download in the beta version; you can also pre-order it for $39.99 or buy it for the full price of $79.99 after its official release on August 6th.
