RTFM, you BFU!
by Kamila Moravcikova

This is what I usually hear when I ask my friends to help me with my computer/camera/mp3 player/cell phone. For those who are not familiar with IT slang, here is the explanation (soft version). "RTFM" means "Read The Manual" and "BFU" stands for "Basic Function User". And that's what I am & the BFU or simply, lamer. In the world full of computers and people interested in information science, full of technologies that should make your life more comfortable and easier, I just found out that all those things are making my life much more worse and are just driving me crazy. I can't stand that my computer for some mysterious reason keeps freezing. I really don't understand why the only answer "experts" usually give me when I ask for an advice is "Have you tried turned it off and on again?". Or the disrespectful one "Is it definitely plugged in?" Well, I can face the truth. Although it takes me pretty long time to learn how to use all that computer and electronic stuff, in this world you are lost without at least basic knowledge. So I am trying hard even if it hurts a lot. Recently, I've just realized that even leading technological companies (such as Intel) have their own problems. They are not unmistakable. Even though they can produce equipment you would never imagine, they do have their weaknesses and sometimes they don't know how to make a good deal. RTFM, you BFU!
