by Claudia Sonea

Apple Inc. will fulfill its promise to sell 10 million iPhones until the end of the year and for that it already signed a partnership with a venture capital firm offering $100 million investment to upgrade the product with new applications. According to the official statement on Thursday the partnership purpose is to lure business customers and prevent hacking by third-party developers trying to create iPhone applications. This means the giant corporation is moving to a new level from that of the simple customer, thus increasing sales and keeping the control of the programs running on the iPhone. John Doerr, the venture capitalist managing the $100 million investment, already expressed his interest in creating healthcare applications. However, for the time been Apple announced that Microsoft Corp.'s Exchange software, updates integrating email, calendars and contact lists will be available on its phone because the competition with BlackBerry and Palm Inc.' Treo smartphones and at the business customers demand. On the other hand, the absence of IBM Corp.'s Lotus Notes e-mail package is a minus. On Thursday there wasn't released only a beta version of the free software update, but also they decided to become a little bit more liberal regarding the developers that built iPhone applications, maintaining the right to first check the it in order to keep iPhone secure and reliable, says Apple CEO Steve Jobs. For the new applications developers have to right to set the prices, but first they have to register for $99 and in exchange 70 percent of the revenue will go to them and 30 to Apple. Until now Electronic Arts Inc. and Sega paraded with video games created for the iPhone, a Salesforce.com tracking contacts and sales leads furthermore, through the application of Epocrates Inc. doctors and health care professionals can search for drug information and medical news. The news seem terrific, not only for developers, but for customers too.
