Chris Cantell Discusses Technologies: Better change your Medeco locks
A very interesting event took place in Las Vegas on Saturday; the best hackers gathered and demonstrated how easily they can crack electronic key-card systems and deadbolt locks used in places like the White House and the Pentagon. With a strip of metal and a thin screw driver, Marc Tobias of Security.org, demonstrated for AFP how Medeco deadbolt locks relied on worldwide at embassies, banks and other tempting targets for thieves, spies or terrorists can be opened in just a few seconds.Unfortunately the Medeco officials couldn't be reached for comment.Even stranger is that Marc Tobias has been contacting Medeco by e-mail in the past two months, explaining them how easy their deadbolt locks can be cracked and he remained with no answer.Understandably, Tobias refused to tell the world how he did it because this could cause very much trouble and asked AFP not to disclose how it is done.Tobias is trying to pull the alarm and advised anyone who uses this type of locks to start worrying. He also declared that there is no difference between breaking a lock and breaking in to a computer.So...start worrying and change your locks whether you live at the White House, in a huge mansion or in a small apartment.
