iPhone in chain stores

A month ago the long awaited iPhone was finally launched on the market and a frenzy of shopping lead to a record sale of 1 million phones just in the first weekend. It is available in US, in Europe and it will soon be available in Asia too. The good news is for Americans because they will have 970 full-size stores and 16 smaller Best Buy Mobile stores from where to purchase it. Now if only the money would grow on trees…
Best Buy Co. announced that starting September 7, 2008, the iPhone will be available on their stands that have promised long ago to be upgraded. The close relations between the two companies are due to the fact that Best Buy resells Apple's Mac computers and iPod media players. Probably that is why it is the first U.S. chain selling the iPhone outside Apple’s own stores and no other third-party retailers are on the list.
What is somewhat confusing is the fact that Samsung’s smart phone Instinct will be available on the same stands with the iPhone. ISn’t that a little bit concerning for Apple? Competition face-to-face is sometimes disadvantageous. Yet, for Best Buy that spent two years upgrading its cell-phone departments the selling of smart phones capable to do e-mail, Web surfing, and accept third-party software is great. Its computer systems can now perform cell-phone activation and its employees went through a serious training so we should look forward to what they have to present and makes us awe in contempt.
