Chris Cantell Discusses Technologies: Faces of Mini-Notebook Generation
by Milota Sidorova

One thing is certain these days. While the era of personal computers seems to be (partially) over, the international sales and shipments rely on, objectively temporary, however not futureless product – tiny mini notebook.

Let's just sum it briefly. Consumer is striking to find health balance between performance, capability, costs and availability. Last months signed by global price increase – it all went up – from food, oil, services and transport. Logically the price rose within PC industry as well.
It's almost objective to assume that consumers try to consider whether the next machine toy is worth the price and his or her real personal requirements.
Mini notebooks seem to assure that request. They provide full office tool, out of workplace, moreover they basically satisfy the major consumer's group.

According report of American IDC, the international shipments and yield in PC world have been just slightly dropping. However, the main reason why the companies remained safe was the sale of mini notebooks. Just European demand for tiny magics rose almost twice – 23 percent of total shipments.
It also refers that 331 units have been delivered this year and forecasts over 482 million to be shift by 2012.

Price of mini notebooks usually depends on capability and storage. Ultimate model of 9 inch Dell's Inspiron 9 costs approximately $400 however, 4 inch Apple's Air of the same size 80 GB hard drive rises up to $1,700. Last year, Taiwan's Asustek Computer introduced the $399 Eee PC which flew off store shelves from Asia to North America.

Naturally, price on the one side, quality on the other. While blessed design and accoring to me very in – minimalistic trend – there's been some critics about its primarly use. Machines adjusted to non stop network connection may be rather uninteresting without signal. Most of them use public Wi-Fi, but still the lack of powered networks are sensible. That means twice more if you live in Middle Europe and further East. That way, tiny notebook 's being reduced on smart however unusual toy.
You can't do serious graphic there, nor get the performance you get on personal computer.
This time it may be useful to not rely exactly on public Wi-Fi...

Otherwise, I believe development will focus on reducing size and improving hardware and software supplies. That way, mini notebooks of next generation reach kind of certain future.
