Mobile firms like cash from data, but worry about devices
by Paulina Neshybova
Industry leaders in mobile companies noticed greater returns from delivering data than in the past decades, and it is supported by voices on their own networks.
However, three executove chairmen of the largest mobile carriers are afraid of the freedom that si demandes by consumers and they are also afraid that they will use untested devices or application for networks.
This subject was also discussed at a wireless industry trade show in San Francisco, but they still think thta infetterd access would not be a good idea. The organizers of the this conference, Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA) showed also new statistcis about it. It is surpising that in the first half of the year 2008 about $14.8 billion was from wireless non-voice services. This increased interest in data services was created by Apple's iPhone with AT&T Inc and also by other companies who offered phones with touchscreens and new software.
There is an opinion that by such a big freedom interoperability would suffer. They think that a big freedom would cause an end to the devices finally.
Customers are used to new mobile phones that are actully small computers and they are paying little for that.
They also scatched an picture of hoe people especially in Estern Europe go to shops and buy phines that are open for both providers, and are not locked, to they can easily transfer from one network to another.
A chief executive of Skype, Josh Silverman was really sceptical about opness of phone operators as accoridng to him, that say something but do something totally different.
