Yahoo gave in to Microsoft putting an end to their four-year tango. However, on Monday unveiled to the world new products that promise to shake a little bit the Internet market when it comes to emailing and web searching. Many analysts showed scepticism in 2005 when Microsoft went for a merge with Yahoo with the purpose to put an end to Google’s leadership over the search market. Yet, last year the merge seemed the only salvation for Yahoo and the board of directors had to deal the outraged shareholders when they rebuffed Microsoft’s bid. The conflict ended with a 10 year deal between the two companies, which reassures t! he Internet users that Yahoo will not have the same fate like its predecessors (Altavista). As it is, Microsoft will provide to Yahoo the search technology generated by the Bing search engine, while AdCenter will replace Panama, Yahoo’s advertising search product. On Monday it was revealed to the world that Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Messenger will have a new interface and an email upgrade will offer cohesion to the mass of users focusing on social networking. Moreover, in order to improve the users’ experience on the web, newt to Yahoo’s search engine there will be a box belonging to Internet security company McAfee Inc whose main purpose will be to filter the links ranked as harmful. Yahoo will remain Yahoo in spite of the merge and its position of control is proven by the fact that the search engine will present the results in a totally different manner than Microsoft’s Bing- without ever leaving the search! page, you can visit sites that rank restaurants, coffee shops! , etc, j ust with one click. Nonetheless, the main goal of is to approach that niche of the market upon which Google holds control: searching for persons. Whether Yahoo will succeed to strive or not, remains to be seen.
