Microsoft Rocks
by Claudia Sonea

Windows 7 is finally on the market! After struggling to cope with Vista for a while now, Microsoft Corp. finally put an end to our misery and launched an improved version of Windows. The worst choice Microsoft has ever done was to release Windows Vista. Besides being difficult to install, Vista also had many flaws which determined many of Windows’ loyal customers either to return to the 8 years old Windows XP, either to go to the competition to test the MAC. On Thursday Microsoft celebrated the new edition of Windows and the opening of its own store in Scottsdale. In spite of the fact that a day earlier Apple rel! eased the quarterly report showing an increase in PC sales, people still showed a huge interest for Windows 7, queuing even before midnight just to get their hands on an upgrade disc. However, retailers are hoping that the new edition will also get people to buy more PCs. What’s new about Windows 7? For starters, it doesn’t take a genius or 24 hours to be installed and it will pop-up less than the previous versions, all warnings and messages being stored in a single place, so that users can choose when to read them and deal with them. There is also handwriting recognition, a new Windows Media Center, Clearly Type Text Tuner or a revamped taskbar. Good news for games lover: all the games removed from Vista are now available on Windows 7. Microsoft doesn’t have to be concerned about the possible threat represented by Apple, because most people and companies use Windows due to the multiple tasks tha! t it allows and the fact that it works fast. Although Vista sc! ared man y of them away, they still preferred Windows XP instead of MAC or other and the new version is expected to bring them back. As 50% of Microsoft’s revenue is generated by the sales of Windows, all eyes are on customer’s reaction to the new edition, which will be reflected in the sales from during the holiday season. For now, with the launch of the new store being received very enthusiastically and a bright forecast for the new edition, Microsoft’s CEO, Steven Ballmer, has plenty of reasons to celebrate. Cheers, Mr Ballmer!
