Samsung joint TV and phone platform soon reality by Zuzana Zelenakova

The Samsung Group, based in Seoul, South Korea is the world´s largest conglomerate as far as revenue is concerned. In 1938, a small trading company called Samsung Sanhgoe was founded with only forty employees. The key period for the company was the regime of President Park Chung-hee during the 1960s and 70s as he focused on industrialization and development of domestic companies. Samsung was one of them. Park protected Samsung from foreign competition as he put a halt to sale of consumer electronics manufactured by several foreign companies. Undoubtedly, he helped to get the company where it is now. Currently, Samsung accounts for more than 20 percent of South Korea&#! 180;s exports and dominates almost every sphere of public life. Now, Samsung announced its plans for joint TV and phone platform in an attempt to attract more developers. "We have a plan to have a single platform for Samsung TV and phones," Kyungsik Kevin Lee, vice president at Samsung's Visual Display Division said in an interview. "There is a small number of companies positioned to do this, of course, and all have holes in their stories, whether geographically, in product terms, or in terms of engaging developer communities," said analyst John Jackson from research firm CCS Insight. "The strategic premise is that by doing this you can position yourself to participate in the revenue streams generated by the services that run on your platform," he said. The new software platform that is currently in development will fit both the company televisions as well as cellphones. So far, no date has been given as fara s its completion is concerned. The new platform certainly offers ! many possibilities for consumers. Eventually, it could also re! sult in cutting the price for Smart TVs as the revenue would flow from the integrated platform.
