Yahoo still talking
by Claudia Sonea
Whenever I hear about Yahoo Inc., Microsoft and Google, the theme song of â€Å“Married with childrenâ€Â: love and marriage/ love and marriage/ you canâ€â„¢t have one without the other. Indeed you canâ€â„¢t seem to talk about Yahoo without thinking who will be the lucky company that will get its hand in marriage. Hopefully it will not turn out like in the show. Everyone remembered that Microsoft made an offer of $47.5 billion to buy out Yahoo that at the beginning of the month withdrew it. Although Yahoo has many issues and if it doesnâ€â„¢t go for any of the two (Google or Microsoft) it will go bankrupt, CEO Jerry Yang who found it has trouble in letting go, at least that is what News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch stated in an interview for Fox Business Network. And it might be true as even the shareholders are restless, especially, activist investor Carl Icahn who demands another board of directors. On the other side, Yang defended their decisions by blaming Microsoft of not being willing to negotiate and make a better offer. After talks with Microsoft failed, Yang got a deal with Google in a partnership that lasted for two weeks. Nevertheless, such a partnership would be out of law because together they make more than 80 percent of the market. What happens then? The show continues. Even though it did not make another offer, Microsoft is in talks with Yahoo again, therefore there is more to come. Who knows what the next click might bring- keep in mind that an agreement between them would be allowed. Enjoy!
