Examples and proves that crisis is not only about unemployment and job losses are everywhere. Just look at the Xerox Corp. This company was founded in 1906 and from that time it manufactures and sells printers, multifunction systems, and photo copiers and offers related consulting services and supplies. But probably it is not enough for them and that is why they started to play with the id! ea of expanding their business. Yes, expanding during that terrible recession! On Monday Xerox Corp. announced they will buy Affiliated Computer Services Inc. The price of the whole deal is more than interesting: $6.4 billion in cash and stock. The business should combine Xerox’s copiers, printers and document management services with managing payroll or run health care plans. This step should take Xerox deeper into the back-office operations. This deal should contribute to both companies: Xerox will get closer to their customers and have tighter relationships with them and ACS will end up with steady revenue streams from multiyear contracts. Even though not everyone consider this step as a good one, Xerox sees in buying ACS a way to boost profits and expand the roles of company in assisting clients with running their businesses. What is more, Xerox believes that buying ACS will triple its services revenue to an estimated $10 billion next year.

Cat de mult de control ar trebui sa aiba guvernele asupra Internetului? Este o intrebare dificila ca Internetul in sine presupune o invazie a vietii private. Prin intermediul retelelor sociale sau a forumurilor suntem practic expusi la atacuri si viata dvs. privata este compromisa. Cu toate acestea exista chiar si lucruri mai grave precum hackerii ce preiau controlul asupra unei centrale nucleare sau asupra armelor de distrugere in masa si apoi sa le vinda la cine ofera mai mult sau chiar sa le foloseasca. Ar trebui sa existe cineva in masura sa-i opreasca, dar cine si cum? In Statele Unite aceste intrebari au generat o dezbatere extinsa in jurul propunerii Casei Albe de a crea un comutator de oprire a Internetului care sa le permita autoritatilor federale sa protejeze tara in cazul unui atac masiv. Daca te gandesti ca pe 11 septembrie Presedintele a avut competenta de a ordona avioanelor sa aterizeze, impiedicand astfel producerea unor tragedii mai mari, at! unci comutatorul este o idee buna. Dar ar fi mai simplu, sa aiba un comutator pentru oprirea energiei electrice? Acesta ar deconectata toate intr-o secunda, fara nici o alta implicatie in ceea ce priveste confidentialitatea. In ceea ce priveste agentiile federale si retelele lor, acestea ar trebui sa investeasca in programe de soft mai bune, in campanii care sa se concentreze asupra sporirii atentiei publice si educatiei tehnice. Americanii sunt indignati ca guvernul vrea sa preia controlul asupra Internetului, mai ales prin intermediul ultimului proiect de lege care da presedintelui puteri mai mari. Cu toate acestea, este in interesul lor caci guvernul vrea doar sa ii protejeze. Cel mai probabil, guvernele au puterea de a opri Internetul sau de a intra in calculatorul oricui, dar numai in SUA s-a facut public acest lucru. Este o solutie inchiderea? Raspunsul este nu, pentru ca este doar o masura pe termen scurt si apoi o solutie trebuie gasita pentru In! ternet, atunci cand este pornit din nou. How much control should the governments have upon the Internet? It is a tough question to answer as the Internet itself implies an invasion of ones private life. Through social networks or forums you are practically exposed to attacks and your privacy is compromised. Yet, there are even worst things like hackers taking control over a nuclear plant or over mass destruction weapons and then selling them to the highest bidder or actually use them. There should be someone able to stop them, but who and how? In US these questions generated an extended debate as the White House proposes a kill switch of the Internet that gives federal ! authorities the power to protect the country in case of a massive attack. If you are thinking that on September 11 the President had the power to order planes to land, thus preventing bigger tragedies from taking place, then the switch is a good idea. But wouldn’t be simpler just to have a kill switch for the electric power? It would disconnect all in a second without any other implications regarding ones privacy. Whereas the federal agencies and their networks, they should invest in better software programs, in campaigns that focus on public awareness and technical education. Americans are outraged that the government is taking over the Internet especially through the last bill that gives the president extended powers. However, it is in their interest as the government wants only to protect them. Most probably governments have the power to kill the Internet or get into ones computer, but only US is making it official. I! s the shutdown a solution? The answer is no, because it is onl! y a shor t term measure and then a solution must be found for when the Internet is switched on. All the commotion stirred by the issue is pointless and only distracts from the fact that there is no valid solution.

Skutočnosť, že svet sa zmieta v recesii je nám všetkým viac ako známa, ba dovolím si tvrdiť, že dnes už aj malé deti vedia, čo slovo „recesia“ znamená. Otázkou zostáva, či je to dobré alebo nie. Sme vôbec schopní rozprávať sa o niečom inom ako o finančnej kríze, bankrotoch, nezamestnanosti a obchode? Nie, nie sme. Ekonomika a politika sú dnes hlavnými témami, no sú bežní ľudia naozaj z tejto krízy takí vydesení? Dovolím si tvrdiť, že sa neboja ani tak recesie, ako skôr n! epohodlia, ktoré ju sprevádza a na ktoré nie sme navyknutí. Je to neistota, no tá vždy bola neoddeliteľnou súčasťou života, tak prečo sa jej teraz tak bojíme? Prečo pre nás neistota predstavuje oveľa väčšiu hrozbu než kedykoľvek pred tým? Nie je to snáď len pre to, že jej neustále zdôrazňovanie a zveličovanie jej sily sa nám akosi vymklo z rúk? A nie je to len ďalší spôsob ako robiť biznis? Úprimne, neprekvapilo by ma to. Veď sa len pozrime na najnovší ťah iPod-u: hudobná kompilácia pre éru recesie. Nejde vraj len o nejaký zoznam nádej prinášajúcich skladieb, ale ide o poctu Mary Traversovej, ktorá zomrela minulý týždeň. Mary Travers, známa skôr iba ako Mary, bola členkou skupiny Peter, Paul a ! Mary, veľmi populárnej v 60. rokoch. Ich piesne ako ! „I f I had a Hammer“, „Where All the Flowers Gone?“ alebo „Blowing in the Wind“ neboli len populárne, no stali sa tak trochu hymnami toho obdobia. Koniec koncov, 60. roky boli pekne perné: vojna a boj za občianske práva. No za čo bojujeme my dnes? Za nič. My len pasívne prijímame informácie z novín a televízie. Nechávame sa presvedčiť, že sme naozaj vo veľkých problémoch a tak nosíme na očiach nálepku RECESIA! Ľudia, neverte všetkému čo počujete alebo si prečítate, nebuďte naivní a hlavne neverte, že nejaký druh hudobnej kompilácie môže zmeniť svet k lepšiemu, pretože nemôže. Sme to my, kto musí byť optimistický a aspoň na krátku chvíľu pracovať oveľa tvrdšie, než sme boli zvyknutí. A verte, &! #382;e to nie je nemožné!

The fact we are in recession knows probably every single person on this planet and I bet that also little kids know what the word “recession” means. The question is if it’s good or bad. Are we able to talk also about something else than recession, bankruptcy, unemployment, banks and business? No, we are not. Economy and policy are the main topics, but are common people really so scared of the crisis? Maybe they are not scared, but they are feeling more uncomfortable than before it all started, but isn’t it what we call life? Uncertainty is normal and it was always inseparable of the life so why are we constantly talking about it? Why is it representi! ng so big threat for us today? Isn’t this highlighting of uncertainty only another way how to do business? To be honest, it wouldn’t be so surprising for me. Just look at the iPod’s latest move: soundtrack for the recession era! Well, as I have read, it is not only some kind of recession compilation, but it was made in honor of Mary Travers who died last week. Mary Travers, known better just as Mary, was member of the folk group Peter, Paul and Mary, a band very popular in the 1960s. Their songs such as “If I had a Hammer”, “Where All the Flowers Gone?” or “Blowing in the Wind” were not only popular but they became a bit of anthems. After all, the early 60s were pretty rough: war and fight for civil rights. But what are we fighting for today? The answer is: for nothing. We are just passively accepting the “truths” we read in the newspapers or hear on the TV every day. We just let others to persuade us we are ! in big trouble and so we all have a big sticker saying “! RECESSIO N” on our eyes. So people don’t believe everything you hear or read, don’t be so naive and what is more, don’t believe that some kind of music compilation can make this world better, because it can’t. We just have to be optimistic and for a little while work much more than we were used before.

Google deserves its reputation of Internet Midas. Since its foundation in 1998 everything it touched transformed into a successful business. The primary interest is the web business based on the advertising revenue, but in 2006 it made one step further and purchased a radio. Consequently, its advertising business now combines the Internet and the radio, as well as offline newspapers and magazines. Google also pursued partnerships likes that with NASA Ames Research Center and the Internet business grew through the acquisitions of several small start-up companies. Let’s take a look at the acquisition history. In 2004 Google bought ! Keyhole whose product will become Google Earth as we know it. Then, in 2006 it purchased the online video site YouTube and JotSpot, which provided technology similar to Wikipedia and now it got to be a Web Office suite contender. In 2007 three acquisitions were made: Grand Central (now called Google Voice, a telecommunications service by Google), Postini (now Google Security Services, an efficient way for businesses to address the security and productivity of multiple communications channels) and DoubleClick. On Friday Google finally made public the plans it had with the $3.1 billion purchase, DoubleClick. Due to the fact that Google’s core business is advertising, the need of display advertising was clearly a must have. Following the combination between the technology powering Google’s search marketing network and DoubleClick’s selling of online billboards and other visual promos, including video. Currently, on the ! display advertising market Yahoo is the leader and although it! s offici als doubt that Google will make much out of this new business, they should be afraid as the Internet Midas is very determined to get the project running and rarely fails. Life is after all a game of chances and all we can do is wait and see who is right, but I would bet my money on Google. Good luck!

Criza economica este inca departe de a fi terminata. Desi oficialii americani au aratat o incredere desavarsita ca economia de stat se indreapta spre sfarsitul crizei, actiunile intreprinse de catre unele companii arata exact opusul. De exemplu, cel mai mare producatorul de chip-uri din lume, Intel Corp, face restructurari si asta nu pentru ca situatia este roz si profiturile au fost foarte mari. In aprilie, profitul lui Intel pe primul trimestru a aratat o scadere de 56 la suta fata de anul precedent. Directorul Executiv la acel moment, Paul Otellini, a pledat ca industria a atins cel mai de jos prag, astfel, ca va urma o perioada de recuperare ! si de imbunatatire in sezonul urmator. In cazul in care a fost adevarat, de ce sunt reorganizate cele doua divizii majore ale sale? O posibila explicatie ar fi ca reorganizarea nu are motive economice si, din pacate, duce la eliberarea de contracte a unor oameni. Prin crearea a o singura unitate atat pentru calculatoare personale cat si pentru dispozitive mobile, numarul de angajati necesari a scazut si chiar si aparatul de gestiune a suferit, prin plecarea directorului executiv de succes Pat Gelsinger, care era responsabil cu departamentul de furnizare de chips-uri pentru PC-uri si servere. Cu toate acestea, Gelsinger a parasit compania, nu dat afara, ci pentru ca el vana un loc de munca mai bun la echipamentele de stocare pentru producatorul EMC Corp in calitate de presedinte al divizie de la Hopkinton, Massachusetts. Indiferent daca este adevarat sau nu ca restructurarea este legata de situatia financiara a Intel sub influenta crizei economice, importanta consta in faptul ca unii oameni isi vor pierde locurile de munca, contribuind astfel la ritmul alarmant al somajului. Mult noroc la ele in gasirea unui loc de munca de pe piata deja saturata.

Intel hit by the crisis? by Claudia Sonea

The economic crisis is still far from being over. Although US officials showed an obvious confidence that the state economy is heading towards the end of the crisis, the actions taken by some companies are contradictory. For instance, the world’s biggest chipmaker, Intel Corp, is restructuring and it is not because the situation is great and the profits are boasting. In April, Intel’s fist-quarter profit showed a drop of 56 percent from the previous year. The Chief Executive at that time, Paul Otellini, pleaded that the industry hit rock bottom, thus it will follow a period of recuperation and improvement in the following ! season. If that was true, why are they reorganizing the two major divisions? A possible explanation would be that the reorganization has no economical reasons and unfortunately leads to the release of contracts of some people. By creating a single unit for both personal computers and mobile devices, the number of workers required decreased and the management also suffered as the successful executive Pat Gelsinger who was in charge of the department of supplied chips for PCs and servers left the company. However, Gelsinger left the company because he hunted a better job at the storage equipment maker EMC Corp as division president at Hopkinton, Massachusetts-based EMC. According to the official statement the changes are part of a strategic move that presents the fact there are architectural and technical similarities between chips used for different applications. Moreover, Intell’s decisions have nothing to do with Gelsinger’s departure or with the drop in their ! profit. Whether it is true or not that restructures are linked to the financial situation of Intel under the influence of the economic crisis, the importance resides in the fact that some people will lose their jobs, thus contributing to the alarming rate of the unemployment. Škandinávske duo Niklas Zennstrom a Janus Friis, zakladatelia známej KaZaa aplikácie, ktorá umožňuje on-line zdieľanie súborov, neskôr zakladatelia a vlastníci komunikačnej technológie Skype a zakladatelia software umožňujúceho distribuovať televízne vysielanie do in! ternetovej podoby v spoločnosti Joost TV dnes súdnou cestou bojujú za intelektuálne vlastníctvo technológie Skype. Prípad, ktorý je uprostred pojednávania pravdepodobne zdrží predaj medzi dvoma stranami, avšak spoločnosť Skype už ohlásila vývoj novej technológie, ktorá by mohla nahradiť pôvodnú, a teda zmiesť zo stola kameň úrazu. Posledným hráčom je bývalý generálny riaditeľ a predseda skôr zmieňovanej spoločnosťi Joost, Mike Volpi, ktorý má so Zenstromom a Friisom blízky, osobný vzťah. Delay over Skype Deal by Milota Sidorova

Deal among eBay, popular internet on-line seller and Index Ventures, private equity company over selling Skype has been delayed. Three inside characters play the key role in the game. Niklas Zennstrom, Janus Friis, Scandinavian duo that created KaZaa – peer-to-peer file sharing application, later remastered into the popular peer-to-peer Internet telephony network Skype and founded Joost, once viable interactive software for distributing TV shows and video on web are fighting back for the intellectual heritage in Skype. The case reached the Court and it’s highly probable it will slow the upcoming deal. Skype has already announced it was intending to create new te! chnology since it could loose the original one. The last player is recently removed high-profile chairman of web TV firm Joost Mike Volpi, leaving to join Index Ventures, the company bidding to takeover Skype. There may be another delay with the deal caused by investigation over Volpi who led Joost nearly bankcrupty. By June 2009 it was dropping its consumer service, cutting jobs and having difficulties to find proper revenue to carry on. According some sources Volpi‘s behaving should be examined. Volpi may be facing the court case. According expectation Skype should be acquired by Index Ventures in 2010. eBay cited the price of $2 billion for 65 percent stake within the company. When eBay bought Skype, Zennstorm and Friis cashed $2.6 billion and literally got rich, since the original price was valued to $916 million and both admitted it was overpaid. Now they are struggling back for Skype technologies. Volpi is struggling to buy back Skype, and may be facing a c! ourt delay and eBay is struggling to sell the stake.

Nowadays everything revolves around the computer and the Internet. It seems that our lives cannot anymore be complete without them, thus living life in the fast lane has a new meaning. You can be in a matter of seconds anywhere on the globe and do business with people at the opposite pole of the Earth saving both time and money. SF movies were a source of inspiration for some of today’s discoveries. Among the best discoveries are the social sites that facilitate the communication between people scattered all over the Earth helping to understand better other cultures, other mentalities, while learning to ! be more tolerant and respectful, leaving behind the racism and the prejudices that once were so deeply rooted in us. Personally, I like Facebook more than any other site, but apparently the hippest of them all is Twitter, recording 45 million visitors per month. It is a company that was launched on the market two years ago and by allowing users to send unlimited number of 140-character messages, it rapidly became the most popular. No wonder, thinking that it is free who wouldn’t like it? Following a policy launched by Google and taken as an example by many web sites, Twitter too allows advertisers to reach the Internet starting last Thursday. If you read its "terms of service" you will find specified that third-party advertisers can run their promos on the site which will remain free for consumers. In spite of the scepticism shown by some analysts, the idea is bound to be profitable and catch due to the fact that wherever you have a mass of peo! ple surfing, there is also a pool of potential consumers. In t! he case of Facebook it worked perfectly and the everyday user is not bothered by the ads that run on the left side of the site, but in the same time you cannot help looking at them and be attracted by some of them. Entre les 2 et 3 septembre, Nokia a organisé son événement annuel "Nokia World" où il n'a présenté que des produits tout nouveaux, mais également des plans d'avenir. La cible principale pour les plus grands fabricants des microtéléphones au monde est d'obtenir une plus grande portion sur le marché de téléphones aux États-unis où il s'était débattu pour obtenir au moins 10 pour cent. Quelles sont les mesures prises par Nokia pour amplifier sa popularité sur le marché américain ? Tout d'abord, il a lancé des produits comme Nokia N 97 mini, X3 et ! X6O, il a acheté une entreprise des cartes numériques des États-unis, Navteq, et d'autres plus petites sociétés pour ses services d'Internet, il a signé une affaire qui rend efficace la facturation par AT&T et il s'ouvre aux réseaux sociaux qui semblent avoir envahi les marchés partout dans le monde. Plus important semble être le fait que Nokia ouvrira ses plateformes de logiciel à de tiers réalisateurs afin d'essayer d'avoir un raccordement direct avec les utilisateurs et leur goût, en même temps il a finalement lancé ces services additionnels : la musique, l'application de facturation aux magasin, le téléchargement de jeux. À Stuttgart où l'événement a été tenu les représentants de Facebook ont présenté la nouvelle association qui s'ajoute aux dispositifs des tout nouveaux téléphones, mentionnés au-dess! us, une application de Facebook permettant à des utilisat! eurs de localiser leur position, une version de Facebook « Connect » pour des téléphones portables qui marche au propre logiciel d'exploitation de Nokia. Le logo de Facebook est même ajouté aux tout récents combinés de Nokia dont l'interêt principal concerne l'application de musique et l'écran à contact. En s'ouvrant à de tiers réalisateurs et en achetant de plus petites entreprises technologiques, Nokia projette changer sa plateforme de Symbian et l'interface d'utilisateur S60 rigides. La compagnie récemment acquise, Trolltech, s'est montrée être très utile en rendant un nouveau combiné disponible à un logiciel d'exploitation de Linux, et en créant un engine évolutif basé du Web qui emploie des langages de programmation favoris comme le HTML, le Java et le CCS. Nokia a encore plus de surprises pour ses clients! avec un nouvel ordinateur portable de 3G « Booklet » et l'association avec Microsoft qui permettra d'utiliser le logiciel d'Office sur les téléphones de Nokia. Daca Apple a prezentat produsele sale miercuri fără a genera buzz-ul pe care si-l dorea, Motorola Inc fãcut a facut o treaba chiar mai rea a doua zi cu noul şi mult aşteptatul telefon. Cu toate acestea, parteneriatul cu Google i-ar putea aduce producătorului de telefoane Gloria de alta data, precum şi cota sa de piaţă ce a pierdut-o in favoarea gigantilot industriei. Adevarul este ca Motorola nu mai reprezinta o amenintare pentru marile nume precum Apple, RIM sau Nokia. Google s-ar putea să fi făcut prima sa investiţie proasta, ceea ce i-ar adduce grave prejudicii reputatiei sale de "Midas". Ce a ! Motorola, de fapt, la inaugurarea de joi? If Apple unveiled its products on Wednesday without creating the buzz it hoped, Motorola Inc did even a worse job the next day with its new and long awaited phone. Nonetheless, by the partnership with Google could bring back the glory the phone producer once had, as well as its lost market share. The truth is that Motorola no longer represents a threat for the big names of the industry like Apple or RIM, Nokia. Google might have done its first bad investment, which might cast a shadow upon its reputation of “Midas”. What did Motorola in fact unveil on Thursday? Nothing new regarding the design, but th! e main focus was on integrating social sites like Facebook or Twitter combined with Google's Android software. Cliq is the phone that emerged from the partnership Motorola-Google. It has a slide-out mini-keyboard, a five megapixel camera, and the MOTOBLUR software which facilitates the access to social sites, sending and receiving messages and photos. For instance, the phone has an application called “Happenings” that gives the user the opportunity to see multiple updates from Facebook or MySpace or others directly on its phone without having to check directly on the site and thus decide what to do, how to reply to those updates. If all the things mentioned previously did not determine you to buy it, then I would recommend it because you can always track it down due to its Global Positioning System technology and thieves will think twice before smuggling it from your bag or pocket. US residents can buy i! t from T-Mobile USA this fall, while next year under the name ! Dext, Cl iq will become European, being sold by France Telecom's Orange, Telefonica, and America Movil. Miercurea aceasta Apple a dezamagit o multime de oameni. Evenimentul acestuia, chiar daca nu a fost un fiasco total, nici nu a fost printre cele mai stralucite. De fapt, opinia generala este ca singurul lucru care a surprins cu adevarat la eveniment a fost aparitia directorului general Steve Jobs, care si-a facut pentru prima data aparitia in public dupa ce a suferit un transplant de ficat. Indiferent daca prezenta lui a fost menita sa compenseze si sa dea un impuls pentru a stocului companiei sau nu, cu siguranta a avut un mare impact asupra publicului. Sa vedem ce a fost dezvelit la eveniment si ceea ce s-a dorit de catre consumatori. Mai inta! i de toate, castigator al evenimentului numit "Rock and Roll" a fost noul iPod nano, care este acum un music player cu o camera video, un microfon si un difuzor incorporate, precum si un radio si un pedometru. Un ecran de 2,2 inch, precum si un pret atragator de 149 dolari pentru versiunea de 8GB si $179 pentru un spatiu de stocare dublu. Reducerile de pret si modelele mai ieftine de iPod touch (2GB pentru $ 59) au fost ovationate de de catre consumatori, dar faptul ca doar modelul nano a avut aparat de fotografiat a fost o mare dezamagire. This Wednesday Apple disappointed a lot of people. Its even was not a fiasco, but it was definitely not among the brightest. In fact the general opinion is that the only thing that surprised at the even was that Steve Jobs made his first public appearance after the liver transplant. Whether his presence was to compensate and give a boost to the company’s stock or not, it definitely had a great impact on the public. Let’s see what was unveiled at the event and what was desired by the consumers. First of all, the winner of the event called “Rock and Roll” was the new iPod nano which is now a music player with a v! ideo camera, a microphone and a speaker, a built-in radioand pedometer, a 2.2 inch display and an appealing price of $149 for the 8GB version and double storage for only $179. The price cuts and the cheaper model of iPod touch (2GB for $59) were welcome by the consumers, but the fact that only the nano model had camera was a big disappointment. On the whole, consumers want more than the colourful shuffles and although they enjoy the doubling of the storage space without having to pay more, they still want something greater from Apple as a giant of the electronic market, owning more than 70 percent of the U.S. portable media. Moreover, it is really nice to see that finally the iTunes store was upgraded to the 9 model which gives greater control to consumers regarding the connection of the iPhone and the iPod, the download and sync of files. iTunes 9 will also offer consumers the chance to buy digital albums. Amazing or not, but that i! s pretty much all that was unveiled at the event, nothing revo! lutionar y, nothing stunning. Yet, as the holiday season is heading with rapid steps, Apple is also preparing as it represents the period with the biggest sales of all the year. Just stay connected and see if Apple made it through or not. Enjoy!

Americký výrobca telefónov, spoločnosť Palm Inc, tento týždeň ohlásila vydanie nového produktu. Pixi, z generácie smartphones by mal zaplniť medzeru v dopyte po lacnejších, predsalen porovnateľne kvalitných variantách multifunkčných telefónov ako iPhone 3G, Blackberry alebo telefón Pre, z dielne domovskej spoločnosti. Spoločnosť vo svojom blogu vyjadrila očakávanie, že nový Pixi by mohol premiešať karty na trhu, teda konkurovať spomenutým zariadeniam, avšak podľa analytikov je táto možnosť m! álo pravdepodobná. iPhone či Blackberry sa vo svete predali na milióny kusov, ich popularita je dotovaná nespočetnými reklamnými a marketingovými ťahmi. Tomu zatiaľ spoločnosť Palm Inc, nemôže konkurovať. Pixi je menší, tenší a ľahší ako iPhone, meria iba 111 mm na výšku, 55 mm na šírku a 10,85 do hĺbky. Ponúka 2,63 palcový dotykový displej, ktorý je menší než predchádzajúci telefón z línie Pre (s 3,1 palcovým displejom) alebo Applovským iPhonom (displej po uhlopriečke dosahuje 3,5 palcov). Na rozdiel od klasických telefónov, Pixi disponuje klasickou zmenšeninou počítačovej klávesnice, čo však, buďme úprimní, môže bežné telefónne úkony len zkomplikovať. Tak ako konkurencia ! Pixi obsahuje GPS navigáciu, 2 megapixlovú kameru s ! bleskom, 3,5 mm výstup, UBS výstup, senzor pre blízkosť, svetelný senzor, akcelerometer a 1150 mAh batériu. Celé zariadenie neváži ani 100 g, čo z neho robí najľahší smartphone na trhu. Ale odlišný vzhľad ani dizajnové spracovanie nenahradí absenciu významnej aplikácie rady ostatných telefónov. Pixi, tak ako všetky produkty spoločnosti Palm, neobsahuje Wifi čip. Prístup na sieť sa realizuje cez webOS, ktorý denne aktualizuje správy z Yahoo! alebo LinkedIn. Pixi podporuje Google Talk, AIM, SMS/MMS, či rôzne typy mailov, tentoraz so zabudovanou push vlastnosťou. Spoločnosť Palm Inc na svojej stránke ohlásila, že Pixi by sa do obchodov mal dostať pred koncom tohoto roka.

New release from Palm Inc, brother generation to its Pre line was announced this week. New smartphone called Pixi should cover the demand for cheaper, but playful and effective phones which was far away from the previous products. Pixi should also rival iPhone 3G or Blackberry, but according analysts objective competition is unlikely to happen. Although Pixi is smaller, thinner and lighter than Apple’s iPhone with just 10.85 mm deep, 111 mm tall, and 55 mm wide it’s hardly to break the lines of million loyal iPhone or Blackberry customers. Pixi offers 2.63 inches across touch sensitive screen – smaller that 3.1 inch 320x480 Pre screen or 3.5 inches on iP! hone and classic full PC keyboard that, to be honest, makes the usual phone activity harder to control. Just like any other smartphones it offers GPS, 2 megapixel camera with flash, 3.5 mm headset jack, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, 8 GB of storage space (7 GB available for user), USB port, proximity sensor, light sensor, accelerometer, ringer switch, the same 1150 mAh battery. The whole device weights less than 100 g that makes it one of the lightest smartphones on the market. But different layout and visible changes may not be enough. Pixi, just like any other from Palm’s line doesn’t offer Wifi feature. According reviews its processor should be slower than Pre, but it still remains unbenchmarked. Pixi, however, is getting its update via webOS from Yahoo! and LinkedIn joining Synergy. Messaging will be possible through Google Talk, AIM, SMS/MMS or Yahoo email with, built in, push! Palm Inc, announced Pixi release this week, along with Apple’s update for iPod and ! new phone release from Motorola. The company said it will be a! valaible by the end of this year.

Obiectivul principal pentru cel mai mare producator de handsets din lume este de a obtine o parte mai mare din piata de telefonie a SUA unde s-a straduit sa obtina cel putin 10 la suta. Care sunt masurile luate de Nokia pentru a spori popularitatea acestuia pe piata americana? In primul rand, aceasta a lansat produse noi precum Nokia N 97 mini, X3 si X6O, a cumparat din harti digitale ale SUA de la Navteq precum si alte firme mai mici pentru serviciile sale de Internet; a semn! at un contract pentru a face disponibila facturarea prin AT & T, si si-a deschis reteaua de telefonie mobila catre retele sociale care par sa fi invadat pietele din intreaga lume. Mai important este faptul ca Nokia va deschide platforma software-ului sau catre dezvoltatori terti intr-o incercare de a avea o legatura directa cu utilizatorii si gusturile acestora, precum si a lansa in cele din urma acele servicii suplimentare: muzica, aplicatie de facturare a magazinului de aplicatii virtuale, descarcarea de jocuri. La evenimentul tinut la Stuttgart au participat si reprezentantii Facebook care si-a prezentat noul parteneriat, prin care se adauga la caracteristicile celor mai noi telefoane-mentionate mai sus-o aplicatie Facebook care permite utilizatorilor sa-si actualizeze locatia si statusul; precum si o versiune de Facebook "Connect" pentru telefoanele mobile care ruleaza pe sistemul propriu de operare al Nokia. Logo-ul Facebook este chiar adaugat la cele mai re! cente telefoane mobile Nokia, care au ca se concentreaza in pr! incipal pe cererea de muzica si ecranul tactil. Prin deschiderea pentru dezvoltatorii terti si achizitionarea de firme mai mici de tehnologie, Nokia intentioneaza sa schimbe platforma sa rigida Symbian S60 si interfata cu utilizatorul. Compania nou-dobandita Trolltech s-a dovedit a fi foarte utila in a face un telefon nou disponibil la un sistem de operare Linux, si crearea unui Web Kit de dezvoltator care utilizeaza limbaje de programare populare, cum ar fi HTML, Java si CSC. Nokia a pregatit chiar mai multe surprize pentru clientii sai cu un nou "Notebook" 3G laptop si un parteneriat cu Microsoft, care va permite pentru folosirea software-ului Office pe telefoanele mobile Nokia. Ramaneti conectati si veti fi cu siguranta surprinsi de catre Nokia si ceea ce nu a dezvaluit inca.
