Fast scanner digitalizes book in few minutes by Zivka Deleva

Who else, but some Japanese scientists would thought to make the world easier for people? This time, a research group at the Tokyo University created new software which can make the scanning of a book easy as a song can be, and faster than imaginable. If till now, to scan a book one needed few hours to go through all the pages, that is history already. A new device will help you digitalize a hundred pages book in just few minutes. Everyone knows how boring the book scanning could be, knowing that only page by page can be scanned. Professor Masatoshi Ishikawa was the leader of the team that used a high speed camera that takes 500 pictures a second to scan pages as they are! flipped. As it is done by now, the scan is enabled to scan an average 200-250 page book in one minute, using basic computer hardware. Ishikawa announces that this is only a beginning of this technology. Commercial version of the computer based scanning system could be found on the markets in two to three years. "In the more distant future, once it becomes possible to put all of this processing on one chip and then put that in a iPad or iPod, one could scan just using that chip. At that point, it becomes possible to scan something quickly to save for later reading," Ishikawa stated for Reuters. All this is great, but like in almost all the examples in the history of technology, when something new is showing off, it is very much possible to suppress the use of something previously discovered. The scanning system opens the question of the copyrights of the publishers, and especially what would be the booksellers’ reaction. If it is not going to be regulated with so! me new laws, everyone who would scan a book this way, could be! pressed charges. Let’s wait and see what new will bring the fast scanning system to the mankind. I hope there wouldn’t be a lot of disputes.
