Opera browser for iPhone and iPod Touch by Zuzana Zelenakova

Opera Software, with headquarters in Oslo, Norway, announced Wednesday that its Opera Mini Browser has been approved by Apple for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The application will be available for download within approximately one day for free. "We are delighted to offer iPhone and iPod touch users a great browsing experience with the Opera Mini App," said Lars Boilesen, CEO of Opera, in a statement late Monday. "This app is another step toward Opera's goal of bringing the Web to more people in more places." Opera Mini is designed primarily for mobile phones and smartphones, it was derived from classic Opera and it was officially launched in 2006. The norwegian company submi! tted its browser three weeks ago and believed in positive answer from Apple Inc. As it has already approved many other browsers. Opera web browser project began back in 1994 at a Norwegian telecommunication company Telenor and developed into a separate software company Opera Software ASA in 1995. You can get Opera free of charge for your computer or mobile phone, it runs on many personal computer operating systems including Microsoft Windows, Linux, Solaris and other. Many wondered what would happen in case Apple rejected Opera, because they remember how the Norwegian company filed a complaint against Microsoft in the European Commission in 2007 for bundling Internet Explorer with Microsoft Windows and thus suppressing natural competition. After an investigation, Microsoft introduced European users with browser choise screen. Opera Software hopes that this step will help it to gain a better position on US market, where it is still behind the competition. Also, Jon Von Tetzc! hner, Opera co-founder and former CEO suggested that the compa! ny would develop an iPad version of Opera Mini if Apple approved it for iPhone and iPod Touch. However, the company´s spokeswoman did not confirm that information so far.
