Twitter Inc. thought of something new to extend its sphere of working. The blogging service now is going to do an advertising program, trying to make some profit out of its popularity. Using the name “Promoted Tweets”, the communication service is going to provide companies to put a message with up to 140 characters at the top of the pages of search results. Few piloting companies have already used this service, like Red Bull, Sony Pictures, Starbucks and Virgin America. For example, here is how a text commercial went for Starbucks, promoting its free tax-day offer - "On 4/15 bring in a reusable tumbler and we'll fill it with brewed coffee for free. Let's all s! witch from paper cups!" As analysts anticipate this new advertising trick could bring Twitter around $100 million a year. According to a marketing research company comScore, the website had 22.3 million visitors only in March in the United States! A lot of experts support this Twitter’s idea, still acting a little bit reticently on the long-term incomes, but when it comes to long run figures, the time will show. "This announcement doesn't mean they've figured it all out. It means they have another source of revenue," said Augie Ray, senior analyst for Forrester Research Inc. In only four years of existing as a social networking service, Twitter has become one of the most popular one on the internet. With its short text messages, called “tweets”, it very popular especially among the young people. But, no one knows how many users Twitter exactly has. Unlike other similar companies, Twitter didn’t put some efforts to make some more money using its spa! ce, right away, but still received tens of millions of dollars! from ve nture capital firms.
