The Internet is probably latest revolutionary thing that appeared during the last decade. Number of internet users is growing rapidly and interested are not only people in working age or children, but also elder people who have courage to try what computers are capable of. What is more, Internet has become a new political battle field what was lately confirmed by Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez. This outspoken president has opened a Twitter account on Tuesday to combat his opponents whose are criticizing his socialist government. Chavez known for his hours-long speeches on television or radio will now face the challenge: 140-character limit demanded by Twitter. Even! though he still hasn’t written a word, @chavezcandanga (what means something like Chavez troublemaker) had about 12,500 followers on Tuesday. As he said: “I recommend you follow that page after midnight, I’ll be breaking loose there. Keep an eye out.” Opponents of Chavez, his policy and lengthy speeches use the internet to circulate criticism and often jokes about him or even to organize rallies and other protest events. But Chavez himself hasn’t always been Internet friendly. While in March Chavez marked internet as “a battle trench” because it was bringing a current of conspiracy, during this year he has ordered his followers to use social networking sites several times. Did he really changed his mind or is it just another step how to censor the Web? According to Chavez’s critics he plans to channel all Internet traffic through the state telecom company and to silence online dissent. Chavez not only denies these intents, b! ut also points out that Internet use by Venezuelans has expand! ed drama tically during his 11 years in power.
