If you are one of those who desperately love Facebook.com and would love to be more than just its common user, maybe there will be an opportunity just for you. The world’s largest online social network will probably go public! Company valued in the tens of billions of dollars represents a big attraction especially for those investors who have great appetite. But if you are ready to arm yourself with finances, hold on! As Facebook board member and venture capitalist Peter Thiel said on Monday, initial public offerings will not happen until after late 2012. According to his statement to Associated Press, Facebook is following Goolge’s moves. “The lesson from! Google seems to be that you don’t go public until very late.” he said. Social network based in 2004 is now held in affection by millions of users, but it doesn’t have to be like that forever. According to critic of the internet, Geert Lovink, Facebook will pay for its size. This Dutch media theorist says that Facebook shall experience hard times as its attendance and popularity are only prelude to its own fall. As Lovink says, the loss of privacy is the main reason why Facebook, just like MySpace few years ago, will have to face this tumble. As he also pointed, Facebook used now mostly for self-promotion was not built for this purpose, but for purpose of connecting people, relatives and friends. More people try to promote themselves through it, more people will abandon it. While there are only 40 thousands of users who abandoned this social network at the end of May 2010, Lovink believes in one or two years the situation will be different. That is maybe a! lso the reason, why is Facebook preparing for its first (and m! aybe the last) IPO.
