10 Top Japan products

Although the whole world focus on Korean affair last days, Tokyo is still living its own, kind of yeasty life, let's just focus on recent list of top ten up beating things in Japan. According to Dentsu's annual „Hit Product Recognition Survey“ the higest position belongs to smartphone products. The list didn't focus on sale incomes, but on image of products. And they were different. Japan people know and cheerish smartphones, Twitter (compared to expected Facebook) that took the second place. The third most appreciated item was surprisingly Munchable chili oil, then Digital broadcasting widescreen TV and fifth place belonged to popular historical figure Ryoma Sa! kamoto. Sakamoto was pre-image for Samurai drama series. 6th most „Japanese“ thing was International Airport at Haneda. It is interesting that even a building got a place in Japanese mental map – the seventh place went to Tokyo Sky Tree (broadcasting tower that will be completed in two years). Energy efficient theme was also „in“ among Japan people that may be significant progress when one realizes Japan is one of the most consuming nations in the world. Also World Cup penetrated minds and recognition of Japan people – the ninth place among the most recognized Japan products was national football team that made passed the qualifications and fought bravely, but with honest loss against Denmark. Top ten was closed with LED light bulbs that is an item typical for Japan and may be responsible for slight smile between European or American people. The biggest difference compared to 2009 list is the drop in low-priced Japan fashion brands that ! fell down to No. 13 and left the list of 2011 nominees.

Hoci sa zdá, že ázijským kauzám dominuje nedávna vojenská prestrelka medzi Severnou a Južnou Kóreou, z Tokia, multi miliónového mesta žijúceho svojim vlastným životom prichádza iná správa. Tento krát odľahčujúca, možno až frivolná. V Japonsku sa totižto zverejnil ročný zoznam „naj-japonskejších produktov“ alebo najúspešnejších 10 produktov, ktoré sa za rok 2010 dostali do povedomia verejnosti. Podľa tzv. Denstsuovho každoročného prieskumu verejného povedomia je jasn! é, že Japonci za posledný rok najviac oceňovali „chytré telefóny“ - prieskum však neuvádzal konkrétnu značku. Druhé miesto v popularite obsadila sociálna sieť Twitter, čo je istotne dôležitá správa pre najväčší Facebook, ktorý sa v Japonsku nedokázal takto presadiť. Tretím najpopulárnejším artiklom bola čili omáčka, potom nasledovali širokouhlé LCD televízne obrazovky a prvú päticu uzatvorila historická osobnosť – Ryoma Sakamoto, ktorý sa stal predobrazom pre spracovanie seriálu so samurajskou tematikou. Šieste miesto patrilo letisku v Hanede. Prieskum nezohľadňoval výsledky predaja, ale sústredil sa de facto na imidž značiek a produktov. Siedmym naj-japonskejším produktom sa stala, opäť netradi! 9;ne stavba. Ide o tzv. „tokijský nebeský stro! m“ alebo televíznu vežu, ktorá by mala byť dokončená až o dva roky. Je to zaujímavá informácia pre humánnych geografov a všetky profesie, ktoré sa venujú priestorovému plánovaniu a vplyvu priestoru na obyvateľov. Veža sa teda zapísala do mentálnej mapy mesta. Ôsme miesto patrilo energeticky úsporným produktom, čo môže byť v japonskej spoločnosti vnímaný ako pozitívny posun, nakoľko Japonci patria medzi najväčších energetických konzumentov planéty. Deviate miesto v poradí zaujal japonský, národný, futbalový tím, ktorý sa v tohtoročným majstrovstvách sveta dokázal prebojovať cez kvalifikačné kolo medzi 16 najlepších tímov sveta. Desiatym najpopulárnejším artiklom bol produkt opäť, &#! 269;isto japonský – šlo o žiariace LED diódy. Najvýraznejšou zmenou oproti minulému roku bol prepad lacných, japonských módnych značiek, ktoré tento rok spadli na 13. pozíciu a vyradili sa zo zoznamu kandidátov na najúspešnejšiu desiatku roku 2011.

Stealing the language

It was just yesterday when I came across an article that one Slovak company has patented a name „Vysoké Tatry“ and put a registration mark on it. You say, ok, nevermind. But if you look closer, you will know that the name „Vysoké Tatry“ is an official name for a city lying in Slovak highest and once the most beautiful national park. The mountains of wild, rocky peaks reaching up to 2,600 meters that are just awesome are called the same name - „Vysoké Tatry“. And here we come to the situation that a company for a product registers this name on its own. The name that is pointing to the city and to the great, precious and bre! athtaking area. The name is now a symbol for a product, but who knows it? Privatisation is a trend of our era, that is out of question, the question remains to which extent it is still acceptable. What happens if tomorrow someone decides to register a word „sun“ or a „moon“ for its product or necessity and whole human kind will have to pay for using that word. The system that some businessmen and politicians label as „ethical“ is lacking the smallest sense of logic. But I am sure, it is a perfect motive for an absurd comedy as well as it should be a motive for grave discussion. Yesterday Facebook succeeded with registering the word „face“ for its business purposes. U.S. Patent and Trademark accepted Facebook could use in certain context, literally only for „telecommunication services, providing online chat rooms and electronic bulletin boards for transmission of messages among computer users in the field of general inte! rest and concerning social and entertainment subject matter, n! one prim arilu featuring or relating to monitoring or to cars“ - at least that's what does the document say. So from now on Facebook has a monopoly to use „face“ in this field. The company is also fighting to register another word „book“ so it would have another reason to sink down social network Teachbook.com on the trial. Let's just hope Facebook will not have tastes for adapting whole dictionary or will not get inspired by Slovak model.

Thanksgiving e-commerce projection

Consumer be at peace, holidays are coming, you can buy... Well this is the core message of upcoming Thanksgiving that has changed into the business term. And in this term, business reports are expecting increasing volume of sales up to 11 percent. The projection has increased from initial 7 percent then to 9 percent and for now it stopped around 11 percent. The major part of sales should be done via internet or on-line. This way of shopping is getting more and more influence not only in the U.S. but also in Europe and developed Asian countries. The biggest retailer is Amazon.com that generates about 43 percent of its sales incomes from foreign countries. Consumers are expec! ted to buy 11 percent of more goods (mostly toys, electronics, furniture, etc) and this projection is excluding food and gas or petrol products. According to comScore analyst company total weekend e-commerce spending should reach $32.4 billion that is quite a significant amout in one counts the National Retail Federation projection for annual 2010 holiday retail sales to $447.1 billion. The quote is 2.3 percent up comparing to 2009. 11 percent outlook is based on the first 21 days of November and December season. 21 days have generated income of $9.01 billion, said comScore. But the question arises whether it is a sustainable trend, since social conditions in the U.S. have not improoved. Unemployment, rising taxes and political gridlocks are not reasons for optimism – according to recent ABC and Yahoo! News poll about about 60 percents of respondents thought that things were not changing for better after November elections.

Len včera som natrafila na absurdný článok o tom, že istá slovenská firma sa rozhodla patentovať si názov „Vysoké Tatry“. Pre tých, ktorí nevedia, čo tieto slová znamenajú, ide o originálny názov mesta a najvyššieho slovenského pohoria. Názov, ktorý označuje unikátne roztrúsené horské mesto a masívne kamenné štíty dosahujúce závratných 2600 metrov odteraz patrí bezmennej spoločnosti, ktorá cez tento odkaz bude generovať zisk. Spoločnosť teraz môže ťa&! #382;iť z iného významu názvu a ukradnutie nuž a pre nás vyvstáva otázka, do akej miery je toto etické? Podľa obchodných zákonov SR je toto etické, avšak, môžeme sa spýtať kam s týmto etickým spôsobom môžeme zájsť? Predstavme si situáciu, že onedlho bude mať nejaká spoločnosť dostatok peňazí nato, aby si kúpila slovo „slnko“ alebo „mesiac“ alebo „ruka“ a bude od nás ľudí požadovať, aby sme za vyslovenie tohto slova platili...Že to znie absurdne? Ani v najmenšom – nie je to právne zakázané, a teda je to povolené, a teda je to etické... Včera si najväčšia sociálna sieť Facebook zaregistrovala slovo „face“ alebo tvár. Americký patentový úrad po piat! ich rokoch toto slovo predat pre účely telekomunik&#! 225;cie, chatu a služieb spájajúcich sa so sociálnou sieťou. Nuž Facebook má teraz monopol na používanie tohto slova v uvedených prípadoch... Ale nehodlá skončiť len pri „face“, spoločnosť požiadala už o registráciu slova „book“. V tom prípade by získala významný argument a mohla by konečne potopiť sociálnu sieť Teachbook.com, s ktorou sa sporí o autorstvo... Nuž nie sme od uvedeného Kocúrkova tak ďaleko. Dúfajme, že sa Facebookom neinšpirujú ďalší a že Facebook zasa nesiahne po onom slovenskom modeli...

Google aims for Miramax library

Money never sleeps, doesn't it? Fighting for the market and the customers, all communicative companies are doing everything possible to earn the peoples attention. In a time when it is not at all easy to gain your public, knowing how much competing there is, every body is trying to be more innovative and to win over the market. Whenever I think on this issue, there are few companies that always come to my mind. There we have Apple, we have RIM, we have Google...And that's not like for nothing. They are the fast growing companies in the business in the last few years. And now, what's the new with Google? The Internet browser aims to improve its YouTube service and make it! a more often destination for users, but not only for clips limited on short time, but being able to watch a movie, as well. And how would Google achieve that? Some news say that Google's managers have put their eyes on Miramax's archives which are in the hands of Filmyard Holdings. The talks are for about some 700 films. Some of the titles are Trainspotting, No land for old men, Pulp Fiction... And just when you think you have thought of something original, there comes the competition. Google is facing Netflix company that has the streaming possibility, because they also are about to win over the Miramax offer. Up to four months, Miramax belonged to Walt Disney Co, but for some 660 million dollars, they went in the hands of Filmyard Holdings. And now, it is up to the new owner to decide whom to give the digital rights to. But it is expected that by the end of this year the "winner" will be known.

Netflix plans video streaming only

The American corporation Netflix that works on the issue of video streaming on the Internet and Blu and Blu-ray Disc rental in the U.S. now has came up with a new idea. That, when you think a bit better is nothing so extremely new, but it's like the managers have found a way to improve the company's profit by including a streaming-only subscription plan for the States and raise the prices of other streaming and U.S. plans. I suppose consumers are not going to be that satisfied with the new program, but that's the thing. The 13 year old company that is centered in California is already doing pretty well on the Stock. Last year, the company's collection rose to 100,000 titles! on DVD and they had more than surprisingly 10 million subscribers. The biggest benefit that Netflix wants to achieve with this step is to reduce the DVDs by mail. According to some analysts, the DVD sell is pretty limited and the streaming still shows a better future. And now, off course, the users' prices are going be higher and the thing is the new subscribers are going to pay right away the new price and the old ones can wait until January. The prices are going to be much higher than before and the company is kind a expecting the subscribers number to fall for some hundreds of thousands. Well, in business one must take risks, because there is no profit if there is no risk. As for the numbers, in the last quarter, the company had some 16.9 million members in the U.S and in Canada. The officials have still a lot to do in improving the streaming video library compared with its DVD by-mail selection, but I believe they are going to improve that as well.

Pregovorite se za okolu 700 naslovi, megju koi "Broenje vozovi", "Nema zemja za stari lugje", "Evtini prikazni"... I baš koga mislite deka ste smislile nešto originalno, ete ja konkurencijata. Gugl se soočuva so kompanijata Netfliks, koja ima možnost za striming na filmovi i koja isto taka saka da posegne po filmovite na Miramaks. Do pred četiri meseca Miramaks pripagjaše na Volt Dizni, no za 660 milioni dolari taa otide vo racete na Filmjard Holdings. I sega, od noviot sopstvenik zavisi komu kje mu bidat dadeni digitalnite prava. No, se očekuva deka do krajot na godi! nava kje se znae pobednikot.

State-owned company China Telecom successfully rerouted American data, says Washinghton.

Another interesting news came out from Washinghton last weekend. The Defense Department agreed that the U.S. Internet traffic was „hijacked“ by China. The traffic of massive volume was rerouted into Chinese servers, said the report of U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commision that has been released on Wednesday. The date of this massive internet attack is significant because it turns out to be public after more than seven months. The traffic was rerouted during 18 minutes on April 8th. The reactions on this situation are however expected, Washinghton blames Beijing and Beijing refuses complaints. According to Chinese representatives the report is just di! storting reality and recalling Cold war atmosphere and attack Chinese image. The company that stays behind 18 minutes theft is state-owned China Telecom, but the company rejects the blame. The report specifies that affected websites and emails belonged to Secretary of Defense Robert Gate's office, the armed forces and some commercial websites, the hijack was done via false notifications that prompted American servers to route data flow through China. But the report at the same time doesn't say whether this action happened on purpose or just by an accident. In any case this should be an object of investigation and further and more public discussion. Last years there has been increasing amount of cases of data and privacy violation of the cyberspace done illegaly even by the most powerful companies, including Google, Facebook, Yahoo and many others. Reality often proves that security encryption standards are really low. But it may be too rushy to connect it with this interna! tional rerouting. The motives and consequences are beyond our ! reach. W ell what happens if someone or something can successfully attack data flow of private or business even national character?

Facebook campaigns are not enough to trigger political reform in Egypt

Egypt is calling for a change, obviously. However, it becomes evident that political reform cannot be achieved solely through Facebook and other Internet sites. And so the Internet campaigns lose tractions as they fail to transform into real movements outside the virtual domain. Many are convinced a desired change could come with one man, Mohamed ElBaradej, the former head of the UN nuclear watchdog. He acquired about one million supporters through Facebook, however, he failed to address this kind of campaign or do anything about it, and so it gradually died out. There is only one week left before a parliamentary election that National Democratic Party (NDP) is expected to! win once again and no one truly believes an online campaign could offer sufficient support to a unified opposition movement. "There are (labor) strikes happening on the ground but has the organized opposition managed to interact with them or not? Unfortunately, I have to say, the opposition's performance has been largely dismal," said blogger Hossam Hamalawy. Although Facebook was viewed as the trigger in case of 2008 protests against rising prices and low wages and subsequent clashes with police Hamalawy says it was not credited rightfully. "It was people on the ground not connected to Facebook who rioted...in Mahalla," he said. "The Internet can just provide a platform for solidarity with that movement on the ground." All in all, it cannot be denied that "The internet has revolutionised political life in Egypt“, as Kamel al-Sayyid, a politics profesor at the American University in Cairo, said. "It's a tool enabling opposition groups, particularly those who are subj! ect to suppression by the government, to communicate with thei! r member s and co-ordinate activities." However, also this medium has its limits as of 80 million population only 13 million are Internet users.

The enterprise "cloud computing" company Salesforce.com which is headquartered in San Francisco is noticing big results on the shares. The company that is not so old, some 11 years on the market specialized in software as a service. First time it went public on the New York Stock Exchange, it was in 2004 , under the symbol CRM. The company is established in the U.S. but has its affiliations in the whole world. It created a well organized net that doesn't concerns a representative in all of the continents but a greater connection in one center. For example, the headquarter in Dublin covers Europe, Middle East and Africa, too). The cloud computing concept has put Salesforce.! com Inc. on a very nice place at the Stock. Knowing how well did the third-quarter go on the earning report, Salesforce.com shares have noticed some 18 percent rising! That encouraged the managers to announce that they are not ready to stop there. A lot of analysts are not "afraid" to say that though this company is not even seven years on the stock market, it has better results than Google Inc. What is the thing that makes this company's software better? It has helped a lot of businessmen and companies to resolve their problem and be able to access their companies from any machine with an Internet connection, no matter where are they. The idea spread as a virus, so the number of the software users became huge. That's when the term "cloud computing" came. The company's founder Marc Benioff who has had a really bad time to explain to people at the company's begins what was it all about and very often was taunted, now can proudly rejoice.

Čínska spoločnosť China Telecom presmerovala americké dáta na vlastné servery

Posledný víkend prišla z Washinghtonu zaujímavá správa. Ministerstvo Obrany Spojených štátov de facto potvrdilo informáciu, že americká internetová prevádzka bola v minulosti „unesená“ čínskymi servermi. Terčom útoku boli podľa výročnej správy Americko-čínskej bezpečnostnej komisie veľké objemy dát, presmerované na čínske servery. Útok prebehol prostredníctvom falošn! 53;ch notifikácií, ktoré poslala China Telecom ! ostatn&# 253;m serverom. Po týchto notifikáciach, servery presmerovali dáta do Číny. Správa na druhej strane neuvádza, či šlo o plánovaný útok alebo náhodný incident. Incident by sa však mal stať predmetom vyšetrovania a ďalšej verejnej diskucie. Posledné roky narastá počet prípadov, kedy dôjde k úmyselnému odcudzeniu dát, a to nielen cea hackerské útoky. Dáta a súkromie sú narúšané aj najväčšími spoločnosťami na svete, medzi ktorými figurujú aj Google, Facebook alebo Yahoo. A realita v mnohých prípadoch odhalí veľmi nízku úroveň ochrany. Motívy a dôsledky 18 minútového presmerovania sú predmetom dlhej diskusie. Nuž a všetky dôsledky si nemusíme ani predstaviť, začnite však ot! 25;zkou: „Čo sa stane, ak niekto alebo niečo úspešne ovládne dáta súkromného, ochodného alebo národného charakteru...?“

Internetové kampane zatiaľ nestačia na spustenie politickej reformy v Egypte

Je očividné, že Egypt volá po zmene. Avšak tiež je zjavné, že politiká reforma sa nedá uskutočniť ln prostredníctvom Facebook-u a iných internetových domén. A tak internetové kampane pomaly ale isto strácajú na sile a dôležitosti keďže sa nevedia pretransformovať na reálne hnutia. Mnohí sa domnievajú, že vytúženú zmenu by mohol priniesť jeden muž, Mohamed ElBaradej, bývalý šéf Medzinárodnej agentúry pre atómovú energiu. Na Facebook-u získal približne jeden mili&! #243;n nasledovateľov, avšak nijakým spôsobom túto situáciu nevyužil a kampaň tak pomaly pohasla. Do parlamentných volieb, ktoré by mala podľa všeobecných očakávaní opäť vyhrať Národná demokratická strana, zostáva už iba týždeň a analytici ani aktivisti neveria, že by internetová kampaň mohla poskytnúť dostatočnú podporu opozičnému hnutiu. „Síce sa organizujú štrajky, no nadviazala s nimi opozícia bližší kontakt, alebo spoluprácu? Nanešťastie musím konštatovať, že opozícia si vôbec nepočínala dobre,“ povedal bloger Hossam Hamalawy. Hoci Facebook-u sa pripisovala kľúčová úloha v prípade protestom proti zvyšovaniu cien a nízkym mzdám v roku 2008, ktor! 3; napokon viedli k stretom s políciou, že tieto z&#! 225;sluh y sú mu pripisované neprávom. „Boli to ľudia v uliciach, a nie tí prihlásení na Facebook-u, ktorí protestovali v Mahalle,“ povedal. „Internet len môže reálnemu hnutiu poskytnúť zázemie, solidaritu.“ V každom prípade, nedá sa poprieť, že „internet priviedol politický život v Egypte na úplne inú úroveň“, ako povedal profesor Kamel al-Sayyid vyučujúci na Americkej univerzite v Káhire. „Je to nástroj, ktorý umožňuje opozičným skupinám, hlavne tým, ktoré sú obeťami vládneho útlaku, komunikovať so svojimi členmi a koordinovať rôzne aktivity.“ Avšak i toto médium má svoje hranice, keďže z 80 miliónovej populácie internet využíva len 13 miliónov.

Beatles finally made it to iTunes

Finally, after seven years Apple managed to get the Beatles´ classic catalog to the iTunes. It certainly is agreat satisfaction for Apple CEO Steve Jobs who is a great Beatles fan himself. All 13 albums of the legendary band can be now downloaded through the world´s most popular music retailer. "I am particularly glad to no longer be asked when Beatles are coming to iTunes," Ringo Starr said in a statement. "At last, if you want it, you can get it." You can get one song for $1.29, albums are sold at $12.99, and double albums at $19.99. Beatles on iTunes are expected to boost significantly Apple´s digital music revenue in the last quarter. "This could help b! roaden the demographic range, maybe sell more iPods," said BGC Partners analyst Colin Gillis."In the holiday quarter, iPod sales really matter for Apple. We're looking at north of 20 million iPods sold. This certainly doesn't hurt that." The deal is the result of seven years of negotiations between Steve Jobs, Beatles management company Apple Corps and the Beatles label EMI. "For Apple it has been a personal crusade of Steve Jobs, so he will be happy to get it, and it's something that's been a gap in the service for a long-time," said Mark Mulligan, an analyst at Forrester Research. Disagreements between John Lennon´s widow Yoko Ono, Olivia Harrison, the widow of George Harrison, and the remaining two Beatles, paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, had been the main reason why the deal was not closed earlier. Now, many wonder if it is not too late for Beatles to enter the world of digital music sales, if they did not miss their chance to make the biggest profit possible as th! e pace of download sales is not as high as it was last year. Všetkých 13 albmov tejto hudobnej legendy sa dá teraz stianuť prostredníctvom najúspešnejšieho hudobného prehrávača na svete. „Ja osobne som veľmi rád, že už nebudem musieť odpovedať na otázky, kedy budú Beatles konečne na iTunes,“ povedal Ringo Starr. „Teraz keď tú hudbu chcet! e, stiahnete si ju.“ Jedna pesnička stojí 1,29 dolárov, celý album sa dá kúpiť za 12,99 dolárov a dvojalbum za 19,99. Očakáva sa, že vďaka Beatles na iTunes sa príjmy spoločnosti v tejto oblasti v poslednom roku značne navýšia. „Mohlo by to pomôcť rozšíriť demografický rozsah, možno i predať viac iPodov,“ hovorí analytik pre BGC Partners Colin Gillis. „V období sviatkov je predaj iPodov pre Apple naozaj dôležitý. No mnohí sa teraz či Beatles neprepásli svoju šancu čo sa týka predaja hudby v digitálnom formáte, keďže tempo predaja v tejto oblasti sa začalo spomaľovať už minulý rok. Na druhej strane, hovoríme tu predsa o Beatles, ktorí započali hudobnú revolúciu. Skalní fanúšikovia ich pravdepodobne zachránia.

Google Phone replacing Credit cards?

San Francisco - Web 2.0 conference. A duel between Google and Facebook expected. Who will squeeze maximum from the media attention? Who will win the bid with better offer? Will it be Facebook with its email feature or Google with unknown surprise? For now it's hard to compare, but both CEO's threw a media bomb into the audience. While Facebook was expected, Google came out with the announcement of its new Android smartphone. Naturally, Google has been producing several smartphones based on almost two year old operating system and so far, it has been quite success, but not that much so one could speak about „breaking news“. Google collaborating with Motorola nad ! Samsung have launched their Android phones past months, but it wasn't that shiny, since many similar products have appeared as well. The question was, what could Google's CEO Eric Schmidt say to regain the attention back? Well, yesterday he announced Google's new release will be a pioneer and a progressive piece of work if it comes to combination of smartphones and payments. Phone should be able to replace credit cards, including interactive chip being able to pay. But it should be more secured than common credit cards. Phones will feature „Near Field Communication“ that will enable to send payment data of the owner to vendors that will have to use the same kind of compatibile technology. Although it seems like a new and progressive trend, Schmidt suggested that it was just far away from days when phones would replace credit cards in daily routines.

Path launched to bring more privacy and exclusivity into social networking

Social networking is a phenomenon defining 21st century to a great extent. But how much is too much? Facebook, Twitter and whatever other social networking services there are have become so incorporated in our lives that one simply cannot avoid the question: when will people come to realize there are certain threats to this kind of socializing and act accordingly? What is the point of sharing with so many when you are not even aware of that and the feedback or meaningful interaction is lacking? Maybe this is what Dave Morin, ex-Facebooker noticed and decided to do something about it. The result? New social networking startup called Path was launched Monday. The main idea,! which sort of represents the opposite of Facebook ideology, is that you share photos, at least for now they are just photos, with people closest to you, your inner circle of family and friends, colleagues maybe, with maximum of 50 people. While Facebook is designed to expand your circle of friends and put more of your stuff out there for public to see, Path´s idea is reverse. “Because your personal network is limited to your 50 closest friends and family, you can always trust that you can post any moment, no matter how personal. Path is a place where you can be yourself. Simply take a photo with your camera on iPhone or iPod Touch and add context around that moment in the form of tags for people, places, and things. These tags provide three types of context which we think help capture a moment,” reads the Path blog. Path is a free iPhone app which raises question whether it will manage to break through in already crowded market. However, its founding team! suggests it has a very good chance to find its way. Skvelý štart pre hrací systém Kinect od firmy Microsoft

Hrací senzor Kinect navrhnutý firmou Microsoft pre Xbox 360 bol uvedený na trh 4. novembra. Firmy dúfa v značné zvýšenie výnosov v poslednom štvrťroku vďaka tomuto novému produktu. Podľa prognóz, ktoré Microsoft vypracoval by sa do konca roka mohlo predať približne 5 miliónov kusov. Počas prvých desiatich dní, čo je Kinect v obchodoch sa predalo 1 milión kusov. „Je to vynikajúci začiatok,“ povedal Don Mattrick, vedúci hernej divízie spoločnosti. „Ludia ho prosto milujú.“ Zariadenie, ktoré stoj! 7; asi 150 dolárov umožňuje hráčom hrať hry len prostredníctvom hlasových pokynov a pohybov. Okrem navýšenia výnosu Microsoft takisto dúfa, že sa mu podarí oslabiť pozíciu rivalov v tejto oblasti, teda hracích konzol Wii od Nintenda a Move od spoločnosti Sony. Prvé prognózy pre Kinect predpokladali 3 milióny predaných kusov do konca roka, avšak Don Mattrick natoľko verí v jeho úspech, že číslo posunul na 5 miliónov. „Predpredaj predčil všetky naše očakávania,“ povedal Mattrick. „Ľudia sa na nás obracajú s tým, že je to takmer nutnosť teraz keď sa blížia sviatky.“ Takže, jediný problém, ktorý by sa mohol vyskytnúť je vyčerpanie zásob. „Očakávame, že niektorý z naši! ch partnerov do sviatkov Kinect vypredajú, takže to ! je nie&# 269;o čo sa budeme snažiť vyriešiť,“ hovorí Mattrick. V porovnaní s hracími konzolami Nintndo Wii a Sony Move je Kinect inovatívny v tom, že pri hre nemusíte stláčať žiadne gombíky ani držať nič v rukách. Tri kamerové senzory a štyri mikrofóny umožňujú, aby Kinect (mimochodom malá čierna skrinka, ktorá sa zozadu do Xboxu) poskytol používateľovi úplne nový a jedinečný herný zážitok. „Kinect mapuje 48 bodov na ľudskom tele, podľa ktorých sa riadi,“ povedal Alex Kipman, ktorý stojí za vývojom Kinect-u. „Je to technológia, ktorá vám rozumie.“

Apple is not wasting its time and efforts. Californian based company is par excellence of a company with highly specified and carefully prepared marketing strategy. It has relied on the very essence of human psychology – emotions. Because rarely it is rational thinking that is making us feel good or satisfied towards products, goods or brands, it is as it always was – our emotions are playing key role. For Apple it means to become a part of your day, family, it means to become your friend, troubleshooter and very cool buddy as well. Just look through their ads and sites – yesterday it posted quite common advertisment – it was promising new, improved ! version of iTunes. But the way how it was posted was interesting: „Tomorrow is just another day. That you'll never forget“. This message was so exagerrated that it was remarkable. Of course I ignored the ad, because I wasn't that keen on spending my time searching for any kind of minor update Apple was offering. But the ad was telling – Come back people, come back at 7 a.m. and check the update. And although I didn't mean to come back at 7 a.m. My computer has already informed me that there was a new update. The situation is really interesting – minor updates of programs that are just part of software package are not that interesting for most of the population. But Apple made it almost a sensation – come back and check – although they were sending regular update message to all its users. This is certainly a trend in marketing and ad strategies – to be in emotional, persuasive touch with clients and customers that will eventually be! come a part of one corporate family. Good start for Microsoft´s Kinect gaming system

Controller.free Kinect gaming system developed by Microsoft for Xbox 360 was launched in North America on November 4. The company hopes for significant revenue increase for this quarter due to Kinect. According to Microsoft´s projections 5 million units should be sold by the end of the year. So far, 1 million gaming systems have been sold. "It's a strong start," said Don Mattrick, head of Microsoft's game unit. "Consumers are loving it." The device which costs about $150 allows Xbox gaming users to play games by using only gestures and voice commands. Apart from the revenue increase, Microsoft also hopes to challenge Sony´s Move and Nintendo´s Wii gaming ! consoles. First projections for the new product predicted 3 million units sold by the end of the year, however, Don Mattrick was confident enough to raise the number to 5 million. "Presales have exceeded expectations," said Mattrick. "People are coming to us and saying this is must-have holiday item." So, the only problem that could emerge is shortages. "We're anticipating that some of our partners will be sold out at points of time this holiday, and that's something we'll do our best to work through," said Mattrick. Kinect´s main innovation as compared to Nintendo Wii and Sony Move is that you have to push no buttons nor hold anything in your hands. Three camera sensors and four microphones is what enables Kinect, thin black box that plugs into the back of the Xbox by the way, to offer user a wholy new playing experience. "We wanted to transform entertainment where technology understands you," said Alex Kipman, director of incubation for Kinect, during a Kinect demo i! n Washington. Pokiaľ ide o Apple, nedá sa povedať, že by spali na vavrínoch. Hoci sa stali najväčšou technologickou svetovou jednotkou, ich tempo je veľmi vysoké. Marketingové stratégie presne namierené na tie, ktoré cieľové skupiny. A všetko ide, všetko ide v kolobehu reklám, updateov, promoakcií, ktorých frekvencia je neskutočná. Apple je spoločnosť par excellence, ktorá vsadila na najhlbšiu podstatu nákupného správania sa – city. Nuž väčšinou dôvodom, prečo sa s produktom alebo značkou cíti! me alebo necítime spokojní nie je racionálne uvažovanie, ale práve onen emočný faktor. Ako sa to premieta do stratégie Apple? Apple sa stane vašim domácim mazlíčkom, nutnou súčasťou vášho dňa, obľúbenou stránkou, sučasťou sociálnej siete, „cool“ parťákom, skrátka všetkým len, aby sa udomácnil vo vašich najbežnejších návykoch, myšlienkách a skutkoch. A pokiaľ ide o reklamu, preháňanie je na mieste – príklad. Včera Apple na svoju stránku vyvesil celkom obyčajný inzerát – zajtra príde do obehu nová verzia hudobného prehrávaču iTunes. Keď sa nad tým zamyslíte, v podstate nejde o nejakú prevratnú správu, ale spôsob, akým bol inzerát napísaný bol ohrom! ujúci... „Zajtrajšok je ďalším ! dňo m...na ktorý nezabudnete!“. Pochopiteľne som celý inzerát odignorovala, pretože nemám vo zvyku míňať svoj čas každou zlepšeninou aj toho najmenšieho programu, ktorý Apple ponúka. Inzerát vo svojom agitačnom prejave pokračoval ďalej v zmysle, ľudia, vráťte sa sem o siedmej ráno, skontrolujte si váš nový update. A hoci som sa na stránku o siedmej ráno nedostala, Apple mi automaticky poslal správu o tom, že iTunes má novú verziu. Nuž je to možno maličkosť, ale vo svojej podstate veľmi zásadnú maličkosť – dáva najavo, kam to chce Apple posunúť. Ale toto je už stará známa psenička – všetci sa raz staneme (ne)dobrovoľnými členmi tejto veľkej korporátnej rodiny spojenej značkou a produktom..! .

China´s Tianhe is the fastest supercomputer in the world

China is the country of growth. It grows not only economically, but also technologically. In recent past, the government has begun to put greater emphasis on progress in the field of science and technology. Tiahne-1A, presented for the first time at a national conference on high-performance computers in China, is a fruit of that effort. Tiahne, menaing Milky way, is currently the world´s fastest supercomputer. Until recently, this post had been occupied by the Cray XT5 Jaguar developes by the US. The Tianhe supercomputer, designed by the National University of Defense Technology (NUDT), is housed at National Supercomputer Center in Tianjin. Its construction is a resul! t of combined effort of 200 scientists that worked on the project for two years. Tiahne that can achieve a computing speed of 2,570 trillion calculations per second cost about $88 million. The fastest supercomputer in the world is no minkin, it has about 155 ton and stretches over the area of about 1,000 square meters. It is powered by 7,168 Nvidia tesla M2050 graphics procesor units (GPUs) and 14,336 Intel Xeon central processing units (CPUs). "The performance and efficiency of Tianhe-1A was simply not possible without GPUs," said Guangming Liu, chief of National Supercomputer Center in Tianjin. "The scientific research that is now possible with a system of this scale is almost without limits; we could not be more pleased with the results." "GPUs are redefining high performance computing," said Jen-Hsun Huang, president and CEO of Nvidia. "With the Tianhe-1A, GPUs now power two of the top three fastest computers in the world today. These GPU supercomputers are essential to! ols for scientists looking to turbocharge their rate of discov! ery." As far as the list of the world´s most powerful supercomputers is concerned, the US has seven of them, China has two and Germany one.

Gmail killer ready to strike

Reportedly, the Facebook email service is to be launched on Monday. One of the most recent facebook products just another in a row aimed at attacking Google´s dominant position. The project for the new email system has been officially known as project Titan, however, Gmail killer has been way more popular. First news about Facebook´s intentions to develop its own email service reached the public in February. Given the phenomenal success of the social networking site and its other launches experts predict another sensation that has a great potential to become one of Gmail´s strongest rivals. However, it would be a threat not only to Google, but also other ema! il services providers such as Hotmail or Yahoo!mail. currently, Hotmail has about 361 users, then there is Yahoo!mail with 273 million users and finally Gmail with 193 million. "And while it may only be in early stages come its launch Monday, there's a huge amount of potential here," Jason Kincaid from TechCrunch said. "Facebook has the world's most popular photos product, the most popular events product, and soon will have a very popular local deals product as well.“ And of course, the most important advantage Facebook has – “the social element”. Google and Facebook have been gradually changing into the rivalry mood and the ambitions to kick off the other one is more and more significant. First of all, both are very important and powerful networks that have been cooperating for some time. But until now. Today both CEOs Facebook's Zuckerberg and Google's Schmidt are going to have a speech at expected technology Web 2.0 conference. Although three days event is full of internet services provider, the focus was put on those two. The competition can turn into something really interesting – Google that owns Gmail, one of really sucessful email services is lacking any sucessful social feature – although it has ! its Buzz, the response wasn't that strong. Facebook has been seen in the bad light due total lack of privacy and inability to create its own email. But this is going to change, at least according to official news. Facebook is expected to announce the beginning of its email service. Some, perhaps too ambitious critics call it „Gmail killer“. So far, both sides have declined to comment it. The competition is significant in more directions – last week Google blocked out a feature that enabled Facebook to import data from gmail account and it announced it was going to rise salaries 10 percent up for its IT workers. According to rumors it should prevent Google employees from leaving the company for Facebook. So it seems the fight for any kind of source including employees has begun. But Facebook has lost one of its key IT figures on Friday. What seems so interesting is that the person is Paul Buchheit, one of cofounders of Google's Gmail. Buchheit was working o! n gmail between 1999 and 2006. Now he's leaving for Y Combinat! or a com pany providing internet services start-ups.

Donedávna priateľské ovzdušie medzi Google a Facebookom sa začalo meniť a dnes je jasné, že obe firmy sa dostávajú do vyhrotenej pozície. Akoby tu šlo o boj kto z koho. Obe spoločnosti sú veľmi vplyvné a konkurenčné – hoci doteraz ponúkali rozdielne produkty, situácia by sa mala čoskoro zmeniť. Dnes obaja výkonní riaditelia, Zuckerberg (Facebook) aj Schmidt (Google) vystúpia na technologickej konferencii Web 2.0 venovanej internetovým službám a novinkám, a hoci nie sú jediní významní rečníci, med! iálna pozornosť sa už stihla spolarizovať medzi obe spoločnosti. Dôjde dnes k zásadnému prelomu? Odhalia spoločnosti niektorú „skrytú zbraň“? Je to vysoko pravdepodobné. Google, ktorý disponuje úspešnou emailovou službou gmail, doteraz nedosiahol „zinteraktívnenie“ svojej služby. Hoci v poslednom roku pribudol istý sociálny element – Buzz, jeho odozva nebola veľká a už vôbec nie taká, aby čo i len ohrozila Facebook. Tomu však bola okrem totálneho nedostatku súkromia vyčítaná aj absencia vlastnej emailovej služby. A toto by sa dnes malo stať minulosťou – podľa očakávaní by dnes mal Facebook ohlásiť spustenie vlastného emailu. Niektorí pozorovatelia ho nazývajú „zabijakom pre gmail“, no možno s! 0; tieto prívlastky znova americky prehnané. Ovzdu&#! 353;ie r ivality je však medzi spoločnosťami citeľné vo všetkých sférach. Len minulý týždeň Google zablokoval automatický import dát z gmailu na Facebook. Nuž a minulý týždeň taktiež ohlásil zvýšenie platov svojim zamestnancom o 10 percent. Tento krok by mal zabrániť masovému prestupu ku konkurencii. Nuž konkurencia je zjavná aj pokiaľ ide o zdroje akéhokoľvek charakteru. Ale aj Facebook minulý týždeň prišiel o významnú osobu – programátora Paula Buchheita, ktorý sa v medzi rokmi 1999-2006 podieľal na vývine gmailu. Buchheit podľa oficiálnych informácií Facebook opúšťa kvôli spoločnosti Y Combinator, ktorá sa špecializuje na poskytovanie internetových služieb...

Čína má najrýchlejší počítač na svete

Čína je krajinou rastu. Rastie nielen čo sa týka ekonomiky ale aj technológií. V posledných rokoch sa kládla vláda väčší dôraz na rozvoj v oblasti vedy a techniky. Tianhe 1A, ktorý bol po prvý raz predstavený na konferencii vysoko výkonnostných počítačov v Číne, je výsledkom tohto snaženia. Tiahne, v preklade mliečna cesta, je najrýchlejším počítačom súčasnosti. Ešte donedávna túto pozíciu okupoval počítač Cray TX5 Jaguar zostrojený v Spojených štá! ;toch amerických. Superpočítač Tiahne zostrojený na Národnej univerzite obranných technológií sa nachádza v čínskom meste Tchian-t´in. Jeho zostavenie je výsledkom približne dvojročnej práce tímu skladajúceho sa z dvoch stoviek vedcov. Tiahne je schopný za sekundu urobiť 2 570 kalkulácií a jeho cena sa vyšplhala na 88 miliónov dolárov. Nie je to žiadny drobček, celý systém ma asi 155 ton a zaberá plochu 1 000 metrov štvorcových. Tiahne je taký výkonný vďaka kombinácii 7 168 grafických procesorových jednotiek Nvidia tesla M2050 a 14 336 centrálnych procesorových jednotiek Intel Xeon. „Tianhe by nikdy nedosiahol požadovaný výkon bez zapojenia grafických procesorových jednotiek,“ hovorí Guangming Liu, riaditeľ Národn! 33;ho centra pre superpočítače v Tchian-t´! ine, kde je počítač uložený. „Vedecký výskum možný vďaka technológii prakticky nemá hraníc, s výsledkom nemôžeme byť spokojnejší.“ „Grafický procesor dodáva vysoko výkonnostným počítačom úplne nový rozmer,“ hovorí Jen-Hsun Huang, prezident a výkonný riaditeľ spoločnosti Nvidia. „Keď vezmeme do úvahy aj Tianhe 1A, grafický procesor v súčasnosti poháňa dva z troch najvýkonnejších počítačov na svete. Superpočítače fungujúce na tomto systéme sú kľúčové pre vedcov, ktorí sa snažia urýchliť svoje objavy.“ Čo sa týka zoznamu najvýkonnejších superpočítačov na svete, USA má sedem z nich, Čína dva a Nemecko j! eden.

Who would not know it? Who would not use it? Who would not love it? YouTube, a video-sharing website is one of the most beloved sites in the world. Company which is based in San Bruno, California displays variety of user-generated video content, including movie clips, TV clips, and music videos. It is also full of amateur content such as video blogging and short original videos. You can find anything on YouTube! What is more, all these materials are available for free. While unregistered users can watch the videos how much they want, registered users can also upload an unlimited number of videos. And just that unlimited quantity of material is uploaded every minute. As Hunter Walk, director of product management at YouTube said, 35 hours of video are being uploaded to this site every minute what means 50,400 hours of video every day! “Another way to think about it is: if three of the major US networks were broadcasting 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year! for the last 60 years, they still wouldn’t have broadcast as much content as is uploaded to YouTube every 30 days.” said Walk. He also said that the number of uploads has more than doubled in the last two years what is also related to the spread of mobile phones use and the upload of mobile phones videos. YouTube is the best website of its kind and its quick and steep increase of its popularity is the best proof of it!

Kto by ju nepoznal? Kto by ju nepoužíval? Kto by ju nemiloval? Áno, hovoríme o webovej stránke YouTube.com. Táto internetová stránka, táto sociálna sieť umožňuje miliónom ľudí vzájomne zdieľať najrozličnejšie videá a vzájomne si ich komentovať a hodnotiť. Spoločnosť, ktorá sídli v San Bruno, v Kalifornii vytvorila jednu z najobľúbenejších stránok na svete. Okrem klasických televíznych videí a hudobných videoklipov, tiež obsahuje obrovské množstvá amatérskeho materiálu, akým napríklad sú rozličné video blogy či krátkometrážne amatérske videá. Na YouTube naozaj nájdete čokoľvek! Ba čo viac, všetko je vidieť – zažiť – zdieľať zadarmo! Kým nez! aregistrovaní používatelia môžu pozerať akékoľvek video a ďalej ho šíriť internetom, zaregistrovaní používatelia môžu okrem toho videá aj hodnotiť a uploadovať vlastné a to v neobmedzenom množstve. Práve rovnako neobmedzené množstvo videí sa v súčasnosti na tejto stránke už nachádza. Ako povedal Hunter Walk, riaditeľ produkčného manažmentu spoločnosti YouTube, 35 hodín videí je načítaných na tento web každú minútu. To znamená 50,400 hodín video materiálu každý deň! „Inými slovami je to ako keby tri najväčšie americké siete vysielali 24 hodín denne, sedem dní v týždni, 365 dní v roku po dobu 60 rokov a stále by nevyprodukovali toľko materiálu, ako je v priebeh! u jedného mesiaca načítaného na túto ! sieť ;.“ povedal Walk. Rovnako nezabudol spomenúť, že množstvo materiálu sa za posledné dva roky takmer zdvojnásobilo, čo súvisí aj s čoraz častejším používaním mobilných telefónov pri vytváraní fotografií a videí. YouTube je najlepšou stránkou svojho druhu a neskutočne rýchly a prudký nárast popularity je toho len dôkazom. YouTube spája ľudí po celom svete a v tom je jeho sila!
