by Natalia Holvova

Steve Jobs is worldwide famous businessman, who is more than just a manager. He is great visionary and he always thinks of future even before we all do. Although he made some mistakes during his business career, he is an amazing strategist and creator. If he didn't try to prototype something, he wouldn't be able to see the success or deficiency of his products. Anyhow he was able to create and kept the Apple empire up for decades. He started to do computer business in the time he was very young but he had visions and strategies for the future. He is unpredictable and aggressive player who lives for his ideas. He is innovative and fearless CEO of his lifetime kid Apple that was forged by him from the top to the bottom. He takes an example by the saying someone has told him long time ago: "Manage the top line, which is your strategy and your people and your products and the bottom line will follow." Another example of his business rules he takes from the Beatles who were able to produce breathtaking music even not all the members were as good as their final music was. He is saying that "Total is greater than some of the parts and great things in business are never done by one person, they are done by a team." Latest from Google
by Claudia Sonea

Like always the Internet search leader keeps surprising; on Wednesday it announced that they are trying a new technology similar to the GPS receiver, which means it helps finding the location of people using its mobile mapping service, even if the phone making the connection isn't equipped with a GPS receiver. The technology is called My Location and requires pressing zero on a mobile handset equipped with the new software that will lead to the show up of sender's location as a blue dot on Google's mobile maps. Steve Lee, product manager for Google's mobile maps assured that the system isn't set up to collect a user's phone number or any other personal information that would reveal a person's identity and it can be turned off at any time. The analyst Greg Sterling of Sterling Market Intelligence reinforced the official statement that would actually wipe privacy concerns raised about the new service and tested the product on a Blackberry device. He said he is extremely content and predicted that people will love it because it's a meaningful improvement despite the fact that it is not as accurate as GPS. It offers signal indoors and requires less power from a phone's battery than a GPS receiver. However, the database that identifies the location of a mobile phone is still under construction and the company hopes to solve as many issues and make it as perfect as possible. It works on 20 countries, including United States, much of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the Russian Federation and Taiwan, but not in China or Japan. My Location will work on most smart phones, including the Blackberry and the latest generation of Nokia handsets, but not on iPhone, Motorola Q, Samsung Blackjack and Palm Treo 700w and other models. All in all, Google is more than a profitable business and is always with something new on the market. Next year the company plans to introduce a new mobile software package called Android and we can expect even more. So it's impossible not to take a bow in face of such amazing people. Cheers to them!

Blogging for beginners
by Romana Schlesingerova

To give your blogging a higher meaning- you need readers. This is an alpha and omega of your success. The rest of it, it's just a theory. You will certainly agree with me, that every starting blogger has it difficult. Firstly, to create a still reader`s base. The first step is to not develop an aggressive ego. The best you can do is to learn from others and comment on the articles posted by your favorite bloggers. A good choice would be to join a community, which will bring you new friends and acquaintances, for example using the service of MyBlogLog. Create a portfolio or website that will be clear and kind, and send the links to everyone you consider as a potential reader. You can`t be discovered without a little effort from your site. Respond on every single question, comment or e-mail you will get. Being kind is essential, even in the cyber business. Don't forget about periodical updates. Death blog is a wrong blog! Let your friends and colleagues know about the existence of your blog and ask them to resend your e-mail to their familiars. The content of your blog is most significant. Try to find a way to be unique and helpful, avoid copying and make a plan of what you are going to write about. Take your time before you even set up your account and find out, if there is a future in your work or if you have enough inspiration for a long way to go. Finally, and this may sound as cliché- be yourself. Don't write about the things you are not interested in. Blogging is, above all, a fun. Be ready for a critic that will surely come and take it easy. No one`s perfect.

Welcome your new mate!
by Eva Matova

If you have always dreamed about having your own humanoid robot at home, Japanese have created something for you! A new robot was introduced to public this Tuesday and I am sure you will just love it. It is similar to the humanoid robots presented in Karol Capek's play R.U.R. / Rossum's Universal Robots/, where he imagined robots as intelligent machines which helped people to have an easier life but at the end of the day caused unemployment and anxiety in the society. The Japanese had been handier and created a robot which can help you to get out of bed, pick up a loaf of bread even without crushing it and it is also able to help you with your breakfast. A metallic robot, almost as tall as an average human. Unfortunately, its price is about $200 000, the battery needs to be recharged every 15 minutes and the robots will be available on a market in 2015. Until then you will have to find someone else to grab you a beer from the fridge while you are watching TV or maybe you should try to make use of the first robot created by the company General Motors in 1961 which was a die-casting mold used to move freshly made car parts into the pools filled with water.

Japanese dental system
by Claudia Sonea

There is no bigger trauma then not having at least the body of the loved ones in order to ensure them a proper funeral, to be able to say the last farewell. Everyone who has ever lost someone in a disaster felt the terrifying sentiment. It's even worst to wait for the police to identify the body due to the fact that it torments you and it seems like it will never end. On Tuesday Japanese scientists made an announcement that would change people's life. They have been working on a project that would actually speed up the identification of victims from their dental records. Eiko Kosuge, a dentist and radiologist at Kanagawa Dental College in Japan who led the study, stated that the computerized device scans images of victims' teeth and aligns them with pictures from unidentified people's dental records, looking for a fit. That would save a lot of time by comparison with the current process of identifying the bodies of people killed in a disaster such as an earthquake, plane crash or attack, one by one by comparing teeth with radiograph images or casts supplied by the victims' dentists. The new invention would automatically compare an image of a victim's teeth with numerous dental records and offer a match in less than four seconds, reducing the workload of forensic experts by 95 percent. In the report researchers mentioned that the device uses a high-precision image-matching technique named Phase-Only Correlation, which aligns images and measures their similarities. The wonder machine has been revealed for the first time at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America held in Chicago by Kosuge. Thanks to their research not only time will be saved, but also human sufferance. Bravo to them!

Crowded Friday.
by Zuzana Valkova

Right one day after Thanksgiving is another popular day for Americans. It is called Black Friday. Maybe it doesnt sound very positive, but this is one of the most busiest shoping days in the year. It is called Black friday, because this is the day, when the retailers are no more in loss, they call it be in red, and their incomes go big, so they are in black, it means they are good. There is another theory about this name. It says that Black Friday is called Black, because of the heavy traffic. Everywhere you look, are big crowds of people runnig somewhere, traffic jams and no place where to move. It is beginning of the Christmas shopping season in the US. Shops must be already decorated and prepared for christmas shopping. All the big retail stores have huge sales mostly on electronics and toys. People are agreeable to stand in a line and wait long hours in front of the shop, to buy their desired stuff. Sometimes they even fight, because everyone wants to grab those cheap things. After this, they have to wait in another line to pay for it. But for many people is this still convenient, because some of the products are 50%off. They would never buy these things for this price. Shops usually open early, around 5 in the morning and stay open till late night. They close after the last customer walks out of the shop, with something new under his/her arm. It is not a public holiday, but many empolyees get day off from work to have possibility to shop. Some people are preparing yourself for this, and read webpages of retail stores carefuly, few weeks before Black Friday. Would you go shopping too? Still, there is lots of people who rather stay at home and ignore this day. Or just celebrate Buy nothing day, which is in the same day like Black Friday.

Illegal software`s sales grows on auction websites
by Romana Schlesingerova

Business Software Alliance (BSA) prevented the purchase of over 36 000 illegal software products, in the first 6 months of this year. The value of these copies presents more than 8 million American dollars. According to the company research, auction websites will provide an access to another enormous number of programs. Software corporations will loss about 16 millions dollars. "And this is the tip of the iceberg", said John Wolfe, director of internet enforcement at the BSA. "This represents auctions we have identified as infringing our members' copyrights and taken action to have them closed by the auction site owners. Some auction offers may lead to dozens or even hundreds of purchases of illegal software." added Wolfe. If you are buying your software through an auction website, you should be very careful about the price. Prices that are too lucrative are the major signs of an illegal product. Fake copies won`t supply the entire functionality and maintenance, as the legal ones. From the studies of BSA, your chance of purchasing the pirate copy from auction websites is lower than one to two. Another significant source of illegal products is P2P site (peer-to-peer). BSA monthly identifies around 200 000 illegal software folders, bidding via them. The policies were just recently straightened by BSA, focusing mostly on smaller and medium size business, rising up the charges and numbers of cases in front of the court. "To all offenders out there, large or small, our message remains the same," refers Wolfe. BSA is the leading global organization fighting for the safe and legal on-line world, cooperating with various governmental institutions, represents major software and internet corporations. It operates in 75 countries worldwide.

Pick Your Own Musicberries
by Barbora Kasparova

There was an attempt in my early childhood with books that would allow the reader to make up his own story line by giving him several options. The world has moved on, the option of making your own music videos is available now. So instead of guessing what the fans could possibly like, the producers will let them be a part of the creative process. All online, of course. So if you visit the website of Canadian alternative band Arcade Fire at http://www.beonlineb.com/click_around.html for instance, you'll be able to play with the Arcade Fire lead singer's face and hands a bit. Pretty cool, but not that exciting, I would say. Let's realize we're at the beginning. The next step is to advance it and make some bucks out of it. Seems like the artists and their teams have finally overcome the bitterness towards the Internet as a media caused by music downloading. Right now, instead of fighting the enemy, they decided to join it, making some money along the way. This reminds a bit of the computer game-like experience. Instead of passively watching the video, you'll be able to do what you like with your music favorites. And what is important & all legally.

New features for mobile devices
by Ludmila Martinicka

To have Internet connection, camera or iPod in the phone was leaving us breathless yesterday. Today brings new features for mobile devices. Do you wonder what else could your mobile phone enable you to do? Good question. The Oulu City Theater in northern Finland brings to fans of culture new services. The bright idea of the management of the theater brought the, by many people called, old-fashioned world back into today life. Customers can order their tickets digitally, download a smart video trailer about how was the play directed, order and pay for snacks and after the performance order a taxi home. All that can be done thanks the tags placed on the menu of mobile phones or around the foyer of the theater. Theater in Oulu are not missing the speed of nowadays life. Don't let make yourself confused. Although you can see the antic Greece, Gothic style or times of romanism on the boards, there is great support of modern technique and management by people from 21st century behind. This project is developed in corporation with Finish mobile phone producer Nokia and telecommunications operator TeliaSonera. If they ingratiate people with this unusual offer, they think about spreading this project widely. Hopefully this idea will inspire also theater managers in other countries and customers could enjoy the same services with grace of theater plays or even more. We will see what tomorrow brings. According to the high speed of technical development we can be sure it will leave us breathless again.

From the telephone, to cell phone and further
by Lucia Mitrova

Everything started with Alexander Graham Bell and his idea. Idea that one person could be talking to another without being at the same place at the same time. And that’s how the telephone was born. To be exact it was build in 1876 in Boston, Massachusetts. After that it started evolving, better microphone, rotary dial but it was still the telephone. But after people got the experience talking to anyone, even if that anyone is not near them, they wanted more. Because the telephone you have to at home when somebody calls. And this is, of course, not possible. That is how the idea of a cell phone (or a mobile phone if you want) was born. The patent for mobile phone belongs to Nathan b. Stubblefield of Murray, Kentucky and it was issued on 1908(!). But it was still along way to go for modern cell phone we know. The first modern cellular technology was launches in Finland, in 1991. And in nowdays it is Finland’s Nokia, who’s the world’s largest manufacturer of mobile phones. Nokia is followed by American Motorola, German Siemens, Japanese and Swedish Sony Ericsson, South Korean’s LG, French Sagem, American Verizon, South Korea’s Samsung and many others. Actually the TOP five consists of Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and LG. Of course the evolution did not stop there. Google is about to bring their Google phone, Apple got their iPhone and even a Napster are bringing their one into the competition. It’s called Napster phone and it came out as a result of Samsung and Napster cooperation. And apparently it is ready for this holiday season.

Attention please... we are green!
by Eva Zelenakova

In last time we can see that fight between communications corporations is bringing many new technological improvements. Companies like Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, Ericsson and many others are racing who will be the first out with something new on global market. But soon or later all companies are having the same equipments and applications just in another packages. By the time that global market grown up in huge numbers of mobile phone users communications corporations cant sluggish just on the equipment and application road. They had to have a look on new challenges how to capitalize on their products for the market. And as all of us know very well, this times is the theme number one our environment. And one of the first is Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) with solution how to help mobile networks operators to reduce their energy use and carbon footprints. And with this idea they wants to keep attention on this company. Maybe they will improve their technology one day but now it is probably only about how to keep attention on them. Described their position as a "green" supplier is too early. It is not just my opinion, many analysts think that this vision is not just about environmental issues. But I don't want to judge them before they will make their ideas come true. So attention please "green" mobiles are coming soon.

Hitachi's EMIEW works well around lunch breaks
by Corina Ciubotaru

Can you imagine that science fiction world where all of our routine tasks will eventually be performed by robots? Where we wouldn't have to make out own coffee, clean our house or carry papers from one desk to another at work? Such a robot is Hitachi's newest creation called EMIEW 2, which is designed to carry out jobs in an office environment. Its abilities were demonstrated on Wednesday, when a crowd of journalists gathered to see it perform, only to be convinced once again of modern science's limitations. The robot performed beautifully until the lunch break came and the wireless connection was jammed, causing the red and white robot to smash into a desk while showing off the ability to maneuver through desks. Losing contact with the laptop controlling it seemed to be the robot's only problem, though; the rest of the demonstration was flawless: EMIEW stood on its feet and its knees, dodged obstacles and waved at the audience. According to Hitachi, it runs on a lithium-ion battery that lasts a day before having to be recharged and it is 80 cm tall, weighing 13 kilograms. Information such as price, release date, and the money spent on research was not released to the public. Hitachi is one of the few companies that still try to develop such a machine, along with Fujitsu and NEC Corp, after Sony stopped the manufacturing of the dog-like robot Aibo. Other companies like Honda Motor Company and Toyota Motor Corp have developed and presented robots that work in their automobile manufacturing plants.

Skype vs. German police
by Ludmila Martinicka

German police is facing a problem with decoding of the Skype calls, they are not able to monitor calls of suspected criminals or terrorists. The software is not easy to intercept due to its working system. Process is based on breaking up voice data into small packets and switching them along thousands of router paths. In traditional calls, the data flows constantly between two parties. The question about the way of decoding is, if it is better to get to the source before encryption or after it's been decrypted. German police didn't ask the company for the encryption keys and is not going to. High officer of the German police department said, there is no discussion with Skype. He also formulated his willing not to harm the competitiveness of any company by saying that probably no company would go for it. Skype is the calling software, which was created by entrepreneurs Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis. Skype allows users to make telephone calls from their computer to another on line users, to the landlines or to cell phones. Skype calls between two on line users are free of charge, for other types of calls user must prepay credits. Other features included to the program are chat, file transfer, video call, conference call. Security of the calls is a future of Skype. The encryption cannot be turned on or off. The user is not involved in the encryption process. The software is compatible with Windows, Mac OS X and Linux (i386 platform) operating system. You can find it also in new models of cell phones.

Black Friday kicking off!
by Lucia Mitrova

Black Friday is here, Christmas holidays are coming soon and crazy Christmas shopping madness is on. By the way for those who don't know why Black Friday, it's because the famous New York Times said so. Heavy traffic, stressed out people, chaos everywhere all this unpleasant things made author of the article published on Novembers 29, 1975 mentioned that people (especially police and bus drivers) call it Black Friday. On Black Friday it is a common and well known thing the Christmas shopping season begins. Retailers opens sooner, prices are lower, people, doorbusters, loss readers, everything is ready. Some malls go even further and are opening at midnight. Sure why should be madness and craziness of early Christmas shopping spree be attached solely to day? Avid shoppers need no sunlight. No wonder media describe this day as the busiest retail shopping day of the year. Although this might not always be true, but Black Friday is able always make it to TOP ten at least. Well in 2003 and 2005 Black Friday won the competition, but in years 2002 and 2004 got only a silver medal. It is because the busiest retail shopping day in USA usually is the Saturday before Christmas. Internet is also a part of the Black Friday mania. You can find there information about the specials. This year's online offers includes Wal-Mart Stores Inc, Best Buy Co Inc, Circuit City Stores Inc,… . "We expect to get around 10 million" visitors to its site on Thanksgiving, said Walmart.com CEO Raul Vazquez.

Porta facing chance of loosing license
by Romana Schlesingerova

The telecom supervisory body, Suptel notified Porta with a 30-day grace period to present a plan solving the frequent technical problems of the Ecuador`s biggest cell phone operator. Not presenting any, can possibly lead to the loss of Porta`s concession license. America Movil's local unit, Porta Celular, had service problems in late September which left some customers without service for around six hours. The supervision of the mobile company quickly compensated callers with not charging them for any services they used the mentioned day. PORTA has been operating since 1993, and is the leading mobile phone company in Ecuador, with more than 3.5 million Ecuadorian users and coverage in all the provinces of the country. PORTA is a subsidiary of America Movil (AMX), the leading telecommunications company providing wireless services in Latin America, and which has diverse operations on the American continent with more than 75 million cellular telephone subscribers. The loss of their license can cause major problems in the telecommunication sector. "We have started the process of termination of contract; according to the law the company has 30 days to fix the problems, or if it doesn`t, the contract will be terminated," said Paul Rojas, Ecuador`s telecommunications superintendent, during a press conference. "If it fixes (the problems) we will all have won with an improved quality of service." added Rojas. The Ecuador`s government just recently contacted other foreign mobile companies for helping to impose higher penalties for service errors, after the situation with Porta. Te government also suggested the plan that would ask the phone operators to donate 1 percent of their benefits to support the poor.

Changing systems.
by Zuzana Valkova

Almost everyone, after coming back home from work, or from school, turns the TV on. Wants to watch favourite program or just use it like coulisse. It is a part of your home, and you use it all the time. The scientists are still working on progress and are producing new and new models. It was LCD, then plazma TV and now they put all this together with HDTV system. Do we really need it? Do we need LCD and plazma TV and some high definition system? But when we think about it...yes, we might need it. All the TV stations are going to change their broadcasting to digital, some of them are already broadcasting like this. And to receive this signal we have to own some equipment, which can work with HDTV system. It means High Definition Television and it is special broadcasting signal with much better resolution than older systems. The picture is without any errors or in some cases it might be torn or none. You can receive this kind of signal through cable TV, anthena, satellite, even through videogame systems, graphic cards in your computer, or you are able to watch it on new kinds of media, like HD DVD and Blue-ray discs. In the close future we wont have any other alternative, only to adapt and buy all this new stuff and be like the rest of the world.

Perspective of the Kindle, electronic book reader
by Natalia Holvova

Reading books via electronic devices is the challenge that Internet book publishers try to put in practice for years. Anyhow people seem kind of old fashioned when it comes to reading books. Paperbacks are still in, have a value that electronic devices didn't win yet. But all the efforts continuously push to develop new ways how to bring books closer to people without big and heavy components uncomfortably taken with them into the buses or subways while they have enough time for going through some chapters. Amazon seems to bring something new this week. The Kindle is an electronic device enables you to read e-books, magazines, newspapers and blogs just from the small screen in your hand. Usually when I commute to school or to work or I am just using public transportation I am watching what people do. Sometimes it is funny how people look or act during boring sitting in the tram. Some of them are only looking to nowhere, some are eating their breakfast that they missed, some are permanently on the phone, some are making faces or laughing, some are reading. I am always amazed by people who are able to read in buses. It seems as great opportunity how to derive benefit from time that you cannot use for anything you like. I would like to read in the bus too. But books seem too heavy and big and it is not very comfortable to turn the pages while a lot of people are pushing you or staring at you. But if I had small device, something like palm computer or cell phone, that would provide me easy way how to pass the story, I would be happy not to waste my time by looking though the window at the streets and places I see everyday. I am sure the Kindle is not perfect and has some beauty deficiency, but technologies are developing quicker then we think and the idea appears great to me!

New Japanese “honey”
by Jana Kokavcova

Hitachi is very big company in Japan and Japan is among greatest leaders in robotic. Hitachi brings something really new to our world, something that could help us to have less work, something that could be our second "I". This surprise from Hitachi is really small and really smart robot designed in red and white. So, I think, we could say the robot is pretty too. Robots are now mostly used in machinery and toys, but it wouldn't stay in this way. New robot will be your assistant. This robot could understand human speech and if you want to he could help you to find place, people… Maybe he is really good navigator on two or four wheels. Robot has new possibility. He knows how to move not only on two, but on four wheels too. He can sit down on his knees and use all his four wheels. There are some problems in his coordination, because when he had to go through two desks, he crashed. But scientists say it is not so big defect. They should repair it and give this "red & white robot" on the market. I thing it will be very expensive friend for you, but maybe for some people very useful not only like a smart toy. There are some handicapped people that need their help. Maybe in the future robots will not be so expensive and ordinary unhealthy person will have possibility to buy "mechanical assistant" very easy. The future belongs to robots. Is it true? I think, people hearing about technique want more and more natural things in their lives. It will be great to have mechanical friends and maybe one day they will have feelings too. We shouldn't forget that the robots are only lifeless things and not our friends, colleagues and partners. They shouldn't compensate them. They have to help us in our life.

Welcome in the “Second world”
by Ludmila Martinicka

At a demonstration of new position-tracking system in Tokyo, Katsonuri Tanaka fixed the Web camera to his hip, stood in front of the mat printed with colorful codes and showed to a breathless audience new star on the sky of technologies. People could see the 3-D version of his avatar. As he was moving, scene on the mat was changing. Welcome in the second world, virtual reality. It is a fact, that the first and second reality are just one step away from each other. Tokyo university developed new position & tracking system. It uses a mat printed with colorful codes and ordinary web camera, which calculates the position of the user in three dimensions. As the user moves, the patterns on the mat are changing according to camera's perspective. Gaming in new position & tracking system makes maneuvering easier. All the moves are more like in the real life and brings to the player bigger experience and pleasure from the game. Player can try things which are not possible in the real world without giving his own life in the risk. Older games were facing problems with coordination of the characters and objects. In three dimensional system player can not cross objects like walls, cars, etc. (if it isn't purpose of the game). The system brings new way of interactive virtual experience. More than 11 million users are on line registered on the virtual universe, "Second life". Users can design their own characters, party together, go shopping, meet and chat... Just like in a real world. But to navigate an on line world is far from being easy.

Bye, bye postal cards
by Claudia Sonea

The new wave of changes that the Internet brings doesn't surprise anyone anymore. From online messaging to online TV, you have a variety of options to do it easier and in less time than ever; and you know time means money. Of course holidays are the target for all sorts of businesses and with the help of the Internet you can order and send a Christmas present with just one click in a matter of seconds. So why would it be any different with holiday cards? The Web offers a world of choices where sites will personalize greetings, offering a spectrum of distinctive missives. There is a range from the free-wheeling MOO.com and Zazzle.com, with thousands of user-generated images for Web savvy shoppers to MyCardMaker.com that is easy to use and beginners like busy middle-aged people adore it. Furthermore, in order to make the choice more attractive and competitive, the U.K.-based site MOO.com has drawn more than 2,400 user-generated entries for a holiday card design contest it is sponsoring with a $2,000 prize. MOO.com founder and Chief Executive Richard Moross stated that the cards should be at least vaguely related to the holiday and the main goal is to see how people interpret its significance. Nevertheless, users choose the color scheme, font style and card size before completing the order that offers a package of 10 cards, assorted or all the same, printed on high-grade card stock, costing $19.99, plus about $5 shipping, and takes five to 10 days for delivery. For those that time and computer skills represent a problem, MyCardMaker.com is the best choice due to the fact that with only three mouse click the card is ready. According to spokesman Tim Letscher women between 35 and 60 are the main clientele. In their aid even suggested greetings inside the cards were kept and the site has a selection of about 180 cards designed by professional illustrators and artists, and 75 holiday-theme photo borders available for a membership of from $3.99 for a day to $29.99 for two years. And if this seems expensive, you could always try Zazzle.com which offers an unlimited number of images because its tools let users customize all four panels of a card for at $2.95 (with discounts given for larger orders) per single card. Have you done your holiday list? What are you waiting; start writing all the people you want to send and don't worry about cards anymore, you have from where to choose, just take your pick!

The perfect phone.
by Zuzana Valkova

Everybody, even your grandmother, uses a cell phone. You can not imagine your life without calling your friend in the middle of the class, only because you are bored, or call your mother when you are not feeling well. Cell phone is definitely one of the greatest things which make our life easy. Sometimes is hard to choose the right one. So, what exactly do we need? It is known that women prefer beautiful things; phone must be an accessory for them. It must have a nice color, nice shapes and it can be flashy too. The best thing is when it has a little mirror built-in. For most women is enough to be able to call her friends, text them, organize her time and listen to favorite music. For men are functions more important. Calling and messaging are not enough. They also need internet browser, some kind of connectivity, wireless or Bluetooth, ability to download files, make a video calls or play the games. It must have organizer, touch screen, voice recorder, memory card, GPS and music player. It must be something like a small pocket computer. There are hundred types of mobile phones right now. Sometimes it takes long time to make the decision and choose the best one for you. You have to think about it, which functions you really need and which are not important. Good luck.

Nintendo Wii better than fitness
by Romana Schlesingerova

Have you ever heart your mum yelling to your room: „Please stop playing those dump video games and better go for a walk! "? Let me guess- you had no idea how to vindicate yourself, how to explain the importance of the last combat or the final lap of your car race. We can hear it from everywhere, the constant need to be fit and watch our condition. Let`s face it- busier we are, shorter are the days for us. At the end of the day, we are tired, craving for some fun and relax and the last thing on our mind is to enter the gym and soaked two T-shirts. How about if I tell you, that there is a way to stay fit and have fun at the same time. It's hard to believe we can play our favorite video games, together with burning the fat which bothers us. Nintendo Wii expanded the offer and came with some amazing entertaining titles as Dance Dance Revolution or Wii Sports. Your time will fly while having fun and exercising, that is, according to the Wired Magazine even more effective than aerobic or sex. Instead of 90 minutes of weightlifting (842 calories), play Dance Dance Revolution for 60 minutes (900 calories) Instead of 30 minutes of aerobic (242 calories), play Wii boxing for 30 minutes (250 calories) Instead of 15 minutes of sex (33 calories), play 7 minutes of Wii tenis (46 calories) Nintendo owns a website, named WiiHealthy. There you can find everything about the new arrivals of games, tips for your exercise and the real excuse for your mum.

Facebook, it"s features and it"s problems
by Lucia Mitrova

Raise your hand everybody who doesn't know Facebook! Not many hands, I see, but anyhow. Facebook is one of the many social networking websites for example like myspace or friendster. It is here to allow you to interact with other users, online friends, real life friends that you do not meet on daily basis. All you have to do is sign up and after registration you can start your social life on line. Especially Facebook, which was founded by Mark Zuckerberg in Cambridge Massachusetts, was meant for the students, after some time it got so popular that now, anybody can join. And anybody is joining, Facebook has now days about 54 million active users and it is expected to grow to 60 million by the end of the year. What is so great about the Facebook? Apart from staying in touch with people and uploading photographs it the site's features. You can write your facebook friend a message on the "Wall", so the others would see it too or buy someone a "gift". By gift we mean a small icon that will appear on recipients's profile, unless you want the gift to be private. Very popular is the feature called "Poke" that allows you to poke others or even start a poke war. But Facebook has its problems too. Lately there is an issue about tracking and privacy. Facebook had from the beginning high privacy policy, but users are afraid it got lower. For instance with "News feeds" feature which let you now if your friend changed something on his profile. This feature was followed by huge users protests, so now it's optional and you cat turn it off. Another feature that users are complaining about is "Beacon". Thanks to this if Facebook users buys anything, his friends could see. The company statement to this issue is: "Beacon gives users an easy way to share relevant information from other sites with their friends on Facebook. Information is shared with a small selection of a user's trusted network of friends, not publicly on the Web or with all Facebook users. Users also are given multiple ways to choose not to share information from a participating site, both on that site and on Facebook."

Safer and faster airport security scanners
by Eva Zelenakova

After September 11th all countries wants safe traveling for their citizens. But traveling with spending many hours in airports checking all passengers is boring. But maybe next year 2008 can be everything changed. Why?....Because hardworking South Korea's Samsung developed a new digital X-ray system. Spokesman Henry Kim told that this is the first flat panel X-ray detector using thin-film transistor technology. The flat panel detector for radiology machines provides ultra-high definition images. And I'm sure its true, because Samsung Electronics is the world's largest flat panel screen maker. And as well the South Korea's government proudly predicted that the device would help the X-ray detector market become completely digitized within a few years. Brain new digital X-ray detector using thin-film transistor technology and this technology is the first of its kind in the world. X- ray detector converts invisible X-ray images into digital signals, which are transformed into pictures. The new detector will transfigure the global market and out come in the first quarter of 2008. But on the other side Henry Kim said that plastic-based analog film for X-ray photography applications isn't done jet. Professionals still working on it hardly, but it can take long time. Everyone of us are hoping that South Korea's hardworking professionals will completely finished new X-ray detector as soon as possible. So if you are waiting in queue on airport reading this enjoy it, because maybe next year this time will be long queue just sweet remember on boring time spent there.

New advertizing models for online videos
by Lucia Mitrova

Obviously there is a trend that people like to watch their favorite TV shows not on TV but online. "Advertisers want to reach both audiences," said Jeff Ratner, managing partner and digital director at Mind Share Interaction. There will be a wind of change in the new online video experience. The wind is called impressions-based pricing model. It is supposed to come with time-based model. And what it is about? You know, when you are watching you videos online and you have to wait (or if you are lucky you get an option to skip) until the commercial is over then get to your video? And of course it happens with every video you click on over an over again. Well the time should be more user-friendly and actually save your time. With this kind of model the viewer will be exposed to commercial not before every video, but just once in specific period of time. This way everybody, meaning viewers and advertisers should by satisfied. "It's a better user experience because they now have a lot more flexibility to jump around and see different content and consider consuming more before being served more pre-roll," said Max Marvel, video sales director for msnbc.com. So who is using this model? It's the abcnews.com, Heavy.com, Video Egg and msnbc.com will be joining them next month. "A lot of it is being driven by the networks coming into the space. I think you are going to have pay-for-performance model as well. Right now it's essentially based on viewership," said Jeff Ratner.

Thinking about buying an LCD?
by Lucia Mitrova

Are you about to buy a TV? Forget about the old ugly boxes that rock stars during the 80's era of terrible hair metal used to throw out the window. Nowdays it is all about LCD. Or being a more precise should we say Liquid crystal display TV. The panel is flat and pretty, visual output is better and sharper. LCD is kind of a relative with computer monitor. It is based and works thanks to polarized light. That is probably the reason why the first LCD television had its disadvantages, for instance the fact that you had to look at them from the certain angle or the best was to sit right opposite the TV. Otherwise you would get much of your movie or TV show experience. But this problem belongs to the past now, so there is nothing in the way of growing popularity of the LCD monitors. But not only LCD monitors people's favorites right now. It's the plasma displays too. They are the ones that are keeping the competition fresh and still running. The LCD monitors have the advantage that they can be used for the both, the television market and the computer market. And they somewhat ecological too, thanks to their relatively low electrical power consumption. Another advantage that LCD has is that the weight is lower comparing to plasmas. Prices are not that bad too and experts say they even are falling down. For example Vizio just announced its Black Friday action that will be held on November 23. This means exclusively low prices, but only for this Friday.

Rivalry or anything else?
by Jana Kokavcova

T-Mobile is one from the biggest mobile operators in Europe and has a lot of clients in many countries. Clients are satisfied that they have possibility to choose one from operators and they have a joy there on the market are rivals and prices will get lower. But T-Mobile would like to have more clients than another operators represented by Vodafone and Debitel. These two are for T-Mobile big rivals. But T-Mobile think a lot about how to change situation on the market and how to become bigger than the other, have more clients and more money. And there is really something what could help T-Mobile to be the biggest star on the market. It is iPhone from Apple. Nothing new for you, because you have heard about Apple iPhone. Maybe. But maybe you are from Germany and have no possibility to buy such as iPhone that will work with operators that you have for choice. And iPhone from T-Mobile is then something very interesting for you. You would like to buy it, have it at home, and use it. Use all iPhones' possibilities. Apple has no stores in Germany, what is really great for our star T-Mobile. He is something special when brings iPhone on the market in Germany. This iPhone will work only in Germany and only with T-Mobile operating system. This is the reason of protests from other operators. They are not satisfied. They see T-Mobile in a role of monopoly and it is absurd. And not only in Germany. T-Mobile has time to answer them how to solve this big problem. But maybe this situation is suitable for T-Mobile. Who knows…?

The end of dirty LCD screens?
by Zuzana Blazeckova

Every user of computer has exact knowledge how annoying does it feel to have a screen messed with smudges, fingerprints or dust. It is unaesthetic, uncomfortable and in general not really good for health of eyes too. Every user of computer is fed up with cleaning it day by day, over and over again. The company LG Phillips LCD Co., settled in Seoul, has just announced their new device focused on abbreviation of cleaning computer screen. The technology is based on a simple coating and promises customers easy-to-clean and dirt-resistant panel, which will safe a time and money too. Creators compare the system how the panel works with non-stick frying pan, which is after using easy to wipe. The LG Phillips LCD Co. intents on performing the device and begin with production in the first half of 2008. Foremost they plan to provide panels just for 15.4-inch widescreen, but by the end of 2008, they will probably start with making panels for all panel sizes. The company supposes that new technology will be popular almost among young students using laptops. The main competitor for LG Phillips is the other South Korean company Samsung Electronics Co. Both of manufactures are famous first of all for production of liquid crystals displays. They are in general used for computer monitors, flat screen televisions as mobile phones too. LG Phillips Co. and Samsung Electronic Co. are actually the biggest competitors in South Korea trying to gain the global domination in the market of liquid crystals displays.

Virtual reality
by Ludmila Martinicka

Virtual reality or we can also say, living space for most of the young people. According to statistics, more than 80 percent of young people and children between 4 to 17 years old spend hours per week in virtual reality. Virtual reality could be presented by Internet, PC or video games, etc. It is something older people usually don't understand and dislike the way young people spend their time. Bad influence on children's and young people's education use to be attributed to TV, PC and Video games. But we should not forget about the fast forward moving society and technology progress. Using computers and all the other technical equipment for gaming at a small age can help a kid to create a great relationship to new technical gadgets in the future and simplify their lives. Looking to the past times, car inventor was also considered to be a fool. And now we can not imagine life without vehicles. Some researchers had said that the world will be covered by excrements of horses to the hight of few meters. Where would we be without inventors, fools to science and technology? Looking at the daily schedule of common people, I can see them using all kinds of technologies and gadgets since they wake up. They do it so naturally, that they don't even think about it. Life of children is about learning by doing, or let's say, learning by playing games. And if those games lead them to virtual reality, just make yourself sure, they are able to come back to real life.

Opera right to your ears
by Romana Schlesingerova

For many people the word "opera" evocate some mixed up feelings connected to a dark theater, yawning husband and four hours full of screaming Italians in bloated robes. Naturally, we are not all lovers of every kind of art. Counting with numerous distractive factors, there is no blame that opera is one of the most unpopular music genres amongst the new generation. We prefer more freedom- especially in the lyrics. Believe or not, the Metropolitan Opera Association of New York City, founded in April 1880 and the major presenter of all kinds of opera, has been created from the need for the freedom as well. Functioning Academy of Music represented by the highest and wealthiest circles, didn't have a pleasure in accepting new members into their lines. These singers created another stage, where talents were welcomed and very soon outlasted the Academy. The Metropolitan Opera, nowadays known as MET, opened its spectacular history with Faust, on October 22nd 1883. The creation of a new, modern wave meant a sudden progress for the society at the end of the 19th century. The similar breakthrough kicked up the brand new project of MET and Rhapsody. They just recently launched an on-demand digital music service. You can purchase hundreds of operas from 1937 to 2006 from the comfort of your house. The art that was once an exclusive privilege of enormous halls is available for you. To listen and give it a second chance.

Internet ads
by Claudia Sonea

Greg Sterling, principal analyst at Sterling Market Intelligence, states that the Internet is the new TV and more and more people used it as an alternative. Broadcasters and publishers are therefore interested in creating ads for the Internet. Google is the giant in the online advertising, however there are others making significant changes too. AOL has just launched a new type of Internet ad replacing the prerolls that are so despite by Internet users. The type is new for AOL, but it is already used by BrightCove and YouTube with an interactive advertising system. The new thicker ad is integrated within a streaming video but does not obstruct viewing and it has been developed in conjunction with PointRoll. In addition to its introduction AOL also released a revamped media player platform that introduces several new social features and a new development framework. Curt Viebranz, president of AOL's Platform-A said that ads will run across the AOL Network of video content within the newest version of the AOL Video media player platform and it will smooth the dialogue with consumers by making it active. How it works? AOL's video ticker ad appears at the bottom of the video player 10 seconds into the video stream. If the user clicks it a video ad or an interactive Flash ad within the video player window will be launched. Sterling says that this way it is easier for the users who just have to click the tick, while the burden falls on the marketer due to the fact that a fuller ad that sits behind the ticker. It's a sure thing that video ads have a promising future. TNS Research made a survey revealing that 78 percent of respondents consider online video ads to provide just like TV a mean of learning about an advertiser, while 64 percent had taken some action after seeing an online video ad. Hence all this pleaded in favor of online video ads, more changes and innovations are expected to take place. Sit back and enjoy!

Virtuálna realita
by Ludmila Martinicka

A teraz si nevieme predstaviÅ¥ život bez dopravných prostriedkov. Niektoré výskumy hovorili, že svet bude pokrytý vrstvou konského trusu vysokou niekoľko metrov. Kde by sme boli bez vynálezcov, bláznov do vedy a techniky?

Google can mean real progress to the Mobile Web
by Zuzana Blazeckova

Laymen can say the name "Google" sounds a bit funny. All the others know that firstly student project with mentioned nickname has grown to the huge nontraditional company successful in so very different branches in web industry. The first part of a month the Google-led Open Handset Alliance has announced the news, again with creative kind of weird name" Android". This device including occasional mobile phone, Linux-based operating system, middleware with others initial applications, like a browser you can direct with one click or touch of the wide screen. But Google is not stagnating. Industry observers have said, the company' s interest is to jumpstart the mobile Web and to cover as much as possible from more than three billion mobile device owners around the whole world. The analysts claim when Google is going to use the bandwidth, however it is not a telecommunications service company, it will suppose to buy or find other partners to collaborate. The third opportunity is to create own company focused on telecom service. It is said Google is preparing to bid by itself at the 700-MHz spectrum auction, even if the definite decision was still not made. These frequencies are kind of special because they infiltrate walls and resistances more effectively than others. By any means, Google as a leader for default open access is becoming innovative, at least unique telecom player.

Amazon's Kindle brings a book revolution
by Corina Ciubotaru

It was about time for e-books to start having their own devices to be loaded on, and who better to start selling the readers than Amazon, the biggest online book store? The gadget is called Kindle and is able to store some 200 books plus an entire dictionary, giving readers the physical support they need to fully enjoy an e-book. Kindle also comes equipped with wireless support which can be turned off when the user is on a plane and he can download books without commitment charges or other contracts directly through Spring Nextel's EV-DO connection. It features a keyboard for browsing web pages and looking for downloadable books, page-turning buttons on each side of the screen and it weighs 10.4 ounces. Surprisingly, it does not have a backlight to reduce battery use, but Amazon claims it reads just like normal paper, even in direct sunlight. The Kindle will cost $399 and most books will be available at $9.99 in the so-called Kindle Store, which currently features more than 20,000 books. The gadget also has built-in access to Wikipedia.org and can download books in less than a minute so its users have access to information whenever they need it. Kindle is apparently intended to replace paperbacks and lead readers into an age when annotations will be made only by keyboard, and not by pencil. The battery can keep the device running for an entire day with the wireless connection turned on, and for a week if the connection is off.

by Natalia Holvova

In the world of technologies we spend much more time in front of our PC than on the couch in front of TV. We can download movies from Internet and just watch them at the computer screen. We can play the games and watch funny videos. Computer became very popular entertainment device in our homes. Although it seems very comfortable and easy to use computer as TV, it is not the same. Atmosphere of the living room, bigger screen and surrounding sound that makes you freezing during the movie is non-recurring.   There are several ways how to make watching TV even more interesting and independent on TV program. A lot of new devices have been released lately that can help TV lovers to get more movies for their homes more easily, faster and without standing in lines or going to the store. People can just get one of the high-defined devices and with high-speed Internet connection they can be able to get any movie they like. It can be old fashion love story or brand-new release presented on DVD or in the cinema theatres. TV gadgets users don't need to place their order from their homes, they can do it at the bus stop while waiting for the bus to work or while waiting in traffic, even during lunch break. Planning the movie for tonight doesn't have to be dependent on local entertaining centers or other facilities. You can even rent or buy your favorite movie without disturbing your plans. It takes just a few minutes.   We don't have to choose between comfort and quality anymore, there are possibilities to have them both.

Can a phone be still called “phone”?
by Ludmila Martinicka

Nowadays scientists, investigators, technicians and engineers work so fast and with such effects, that multi functional devices were new yesterday and new special offers were brought today. Music and video players combined with cameras and camcorders, voice recorders, calendars, planners... and even more. Manipulation with devices becomes also very smart and easy. Single look into instruction guide is usually not needed. Sensitive touchscreen, simply organized menu is not a luxury but a standard. Some models are miniatures of the PCs, so you can carry all your personal data in your pocket and work while sitting on the bench in the park with kids instead of the office. Want to check your e-mails? Turn on your mobile phone. You don't need to move from your sofa at home. If you are not a businessman? There are also special offers to entertain you. You can get the phone, camera, music and video player, games and more and more together in one piece. For example Apple iPod brought a real newcomer in area of mobile devices. Engineers succeeded to join a phone with an iPod and Web browser and created new all-in-one technical dream. Get smart. Mobile phone belongs to accessories like hats, handbags, rings, etc. Don't want to be old fashioned? Reach for new devices. Their design became to be at least as important as the features. One of the biggest characteristics of new, modern devices is their versatility. And what is also positive, the price is going down with the size.

Race with Space
by Barbora Kasparova

According to the study done by Nemertes Research Group, which is an independent analysis company, we might soon run out of Internet capacity (the study is published on http://www.nemertes.com/ii). Seems like we're running out of everything nowadays. We'll be soon facing world with no oil, ecologist have been warning us repeatedly of running out of clean water to drink and fresh air to breathe, with the rate human race is reproducing, we'll sure have no living space either. Despite of all this, human race has somehow become resistant to these warnings and threats, besides we all have our own troubles to deal with. Somebody else will obviously deal with the aforementioned ones. In fact, they'd better hurry, because the Internet capacity trouble is scheduled to show its impact as soon as in 2010. Who is to solve the Internet capacity problem for us then and how? It is up to backbone providers to invest into Internet infrastructure and, well, it will certainly cost them a fortune. As shown by the study spending for "...global Internet infrastructure may grow from $20.5B in 2007 to $29.9B in 2012. In other words, capital expenditure for Internet infrastructure may be $160B over the next five years."

$2 billion investment
by Claudia Sonea

Sun Microsystems CEO Jonathan Schwartz made public at the Oracle OpenWorld conference in San Francisco that a $2 billion open-source virtualization platform will be soon launched. He explained the necessity for any data center to operate in a virtualized mode in the next three to seven years. Therefore Sun wants to extend virtualization beyond simple server consolidation to all functions of a data center (network and storage, to applications and hardware provisioning). Sun's first product is used to enable virtualized data centers to run on x86/64 and Sparc systems from hardware vendors such as Dell, Fujitsu, HP, and IBM. It is called xVM hypervisor, a lightweight kernel that inherits virtualization technologies from Solaris while supporting Linux, Windows, and Solaris. Another product is a scalable data center automation tool called xVM Ops Center and also a new community for developers building data center virtualization and management technologies. Like all the other Sun businesses this will also have support agreements for a fee so that customers making deployments will have someone to call. AMD, Intel, Red Hat, and Symantec not only they expressed their support for Sun's effort, but offered practical aid like Red Hat collaborating in order to certify and support Red Hat Enterprise Linux as a guest on Sun xVM. Dell is another partner that together with Sun will promote the distribution of Sun's Solaris OS on Dell's PowerEdge servers. Furthermore the new relationship benefits both Dell that will have broader reach into the global free software community with Solaris and OpenSolaris, while Sun gains access to channels and customers across the volume marketplace, according to Dell CEO Michael Dell. This is good news, so cheers Sun!

Blockbuster getting digital
by Claudia Sonea

Despite the fact that technology is usually seen as Blockbuster Inc.'s enemy, Blockbuster CEO James Keyes still hopes that with new changes to the company customers will end up burning movies on CDs or other devices in Blockbuster's kiosks. He adds that store rentals will be an important part of the business for at least five more years even if it won't be the world's biggest movie-rental company. For him technology should be used to transform the company according to the changes that take place nowadays, because they already have the advantage to be the best-known brands in the world. Blockbuster is synonym to renting movies because of the 8000 stores owned. However, business has not been that great lately, making the company to lose more than $4 billion from 2002 through 2005. Keys, CEO from July, gave an interview to AP revealing the steps that will be taken In order to increase the company's profit (stores will get kiosks that eventually could be used to download movies, will begin transmitting movies to customers' PCs, will test new sales of small electronic devices, soundtrack CDs and books to reduce its dependence on the stagnant movie-rental business). If his plans impressed the readers, it did not impress the investors at the meeting held in New York last week. Keys the one that has on his list of problems to be fixed financial losses, junk-status debt, and a setback in its mail-delivery rental business, did not handled correctly the matter of explaining. The company's fall started in 2004 and afterwards each year the sales have slipped and stores rentals eroded. Netflix Inc. is the main rival and it reached 7 millions subscribers due to the rental orders on the Internet for mail delivery. It's hard to be toped out, because Blockbuster built its own mail-delivery service with heavy investment that led to a fight between the former CEO John Antioco and the company's largest shareholder, Carl Icahn. Now chief financial officer, chief operating officer, general counsel and the manager of the online business have also left the company and there is a staff problem too. So the main problem identified by keys was the desire to catch up Netflix that eventually got them $29 million loss as a consequence of the service called Total Access (all-you-can-watch feature). Therefore his first action as CEO was to limit the free in-store exchanges unless customers paid an extra $7 per month, but that led to the reducing of subscribers to 3.1 million. Michael Pachter, an analyst for Wedbush Morgan Securities and bullish on Blockbuster, states that the solution might be that Keyes and Chief Financial Officer Thomas M. Casey focus more on Blockbuster's short-term issues and do a better job explaining their strategy to Wall Street. Stay connected and see what's happening next.

Philly wireless
by Barbora Kasparova

The city of Philadelphia's aim to become number one wireless city in the world is facing obstructions. Seems like city official did not choose the right service provider to do the job. In the beginning of 2006 the Mayor of Philadelphia announced the cooperation with Earthlink, Internet service provider headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia."Just as roads and transportation were keys to our past, wireless technology and digital infrastructure are keys to our future", said Mayor Street to the public after the signing of agreements (http://ework.phila.gov/philagov/news/prelease.asp?id=233). That was the "dream", this is the reality: Philadelphia was not the only city Earthlink has signed contract with, in fact it planned that it would build a free wireless networks in 11 other major cities in the U.S. As the company started facing financial problems in 2007, some of the cities have come to stop their projects by now, Houston went as far as fining the Earthlink for not followong by the deadlines. What's the future of the cheesteak city wireless program? Earthlink's promised to continue working on what it has started, however, they're considering "strategic alternative", that is, even if the network is built, Philadelphia will possibly need to find somebody else to run it.
