Bill Gates's philanthropic focus
by Zuzana Zelenakova

Microsoft chairman and co-founder Bill Gates has always been generous in sharing his enormous fortune with those in need. In 2000, he and his wife founded Bill&Melinda Gates Foundation, which provides funds for college scholarships, disease prevention and other causes. It is reported that since 2000 Bill gave away about $29 million to charities. On Thursday he only confirmed his goodwill. On the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2008 in Davos, Switzerland he called for 'creative capitalism' to help the 1 billion poorest ones. Businesses should adopt new approach in order to suppress global poverty and diseases. "We have to find the aspects of capitalism that serve wealthier people serve poorer people as well. I like to call this idea creative capitalism," ha said at the meeting. He suggested several ways for corporations "to stretch the reach of market forces to bring the benefits of science and technology to everyone." In time, delivering different products to the poor at affordable prices could be their way of making money. At Davos it was Bill Gates's last speech in position of full-time employee of Microsoft. He will retire at the end of June and concentrate on his charity foundation.
