Quiet killer?
by Zuzana Valkova

When you are looking at the people on the streets, sometimes you can see that maybe half of them are on the phone. Its inseparable part of us. But for the last few years we can hear more about the health impact for us. I was surprised how many studies are about this problem in the whole world. So what have they found out so far? There are two main kinds of hazard. The first one is directly from mobile phones. They are using electromagnetic radiation in microwave range. I don't know what does it mean exactly, but the word radiation is enough for me to start to be afraid. Scientist found the main diseases or problems which it causes. It can be cancer, sleep disturbances, headaches, loss of memory and attention or stress. This is not all, but I think these are very good examples of what could happen to us. Second kind of hazard is from base stations. Usually it is the place where is antenna which is at the top of high tower and it sends and catch reception and signal to or from mobile phones. These towers have a big power density, so it's very dangerous live near them. In some countries this is not regulated, so if you look you can see the tower next to small house or in the middle of a village. This can cause the same damage for the people like the cell phones, even worse. What can we do to protect ourselves? Use hands free, don't carry mobile phone on your body, try to make a shorter calls and if it's possible don't make a call inside of a car or building.
