We've come to era when we are able to decode genetic information of wheat or clone bacteria and make it successful enough to generate. Although it may be a detail for common people, in the world of science and technology it is a big step, better compared to a little space walk. And humans will never stop trying to generate artificial life. To generate it by themselves. Recent finding came out of University of California Berkley where group of electrical engineers managed to substitute a human skin. Have you ever thoght of how important your skin was? Except of being a first firewall against infections and diseases attacking the body, it can identify a difference between hea! t and cold and perhaps thousands of touch intensity levels. In real life it means one immediately knows when it is cold and when does the body generate some internal warmth. Or one immediately knows how to touch an egg or a wooden table. But never in the history these magnificent features were merged into just 2 milimeters thick layer made by human. But not anymore. Two teams led by Ali Javey and Zhenan Bao created extra thin layers of flexible rubber with nanowires inside of it. These wires made from an alloy of silicon and germanium are capable to detect wide range of touches, according to Bao, the „skin“ was able to sense even a butterfly. This finding can be used for a generation of pioneer „bio“ robots who deal with different objects, materials and order. A robot can make a difference between holding an egg for instance and holding a frying pan. The second important output can be a restoration of skin of people with prosthetic limbs. But thi! s plan is still a future vision, suggested scientists.
