There have already been some articles and debates about solar cars and other machines. The basic idea of using solar energy (radiant light and heat from the sun) has been harnessed by humans since ancient times. Using solar energy along with secondary solar-powered resources such as wind and wave power, hydroelectricity and biomass instead of petrol or gas is great idea just because of their ability to renew. What is more, their use is not a threat for Earth or people living on it as there are no oil leaks or gas explosions. This kind of energy can be used for many purposes such as lighting, water heating and treatment, heating, cooling and ventilation, cooking and many oth! er activities, which are not burdening our planet. Even though solar energy is not available at night, development of a solar powered car has been an engineering goal since the 1980s. In 1975, the first practical solar boat was constructed in England and in 1974 the unmanned AstroFlight Sunrise plane made the first solar flight. And it is just aviation industry, where solar energy is used more often. The team from Switzerland which successfully conducted a round-the-clock flight powered by sun is planning three test flights across this country. As soon as the weather conditions are favorable “solar Impulse HB-SIA, the solar-powered aircraft…will undertake three flights, Payerne-Geneva, Geneva-Zurich and Zurich-Payerne, with no fuel.” said the team in a statement on Tuesday. These flights would train the team to work outside their bases as well as to collaborate with international airports. Last but not least, it could contribute to opening a new era of avi! ation.
