Veľký čínsky múr v internete
by Magdalena Rosova

Keď niekto napíše do vyhľadávača zakázané slovo, systém blokovanie okamžite spustí blokádu, ktorá znemožní ďalšie vyhľadávanie a nezobrazí ani predošlé výsledky vyhľadávania.

The great cyber wall of China
by Magdalena Rosova

Google Inc. does not filter its search engine in China anymore. It is now Chinese government itself which filter the sensitive topics in the country. Although internet users in mainland China and Hong Kong now use the same Google search site, their experiences are still much different. For example, if you type to Google's search engine words Falung Gong,” the spiritual movement banned by the government, the Web browser stops responding for about a minute. Do the same in Hong Kong and you get plenty of links about referring to the movement. Chinese communist government uses its complex “Great Firewall” to filter taboo topics in the country. Searches f! or prohibited topics produce “page cannot be displayed” errors. When users search for taboo topics, the browser stops working for about a minute and then generate an error. Sites in English language have bigger chance to get through the filter, because the government is mainly focused on the majority of inhabitants who speak only Chinese. The government also block sensitive postings on blog or Twitter. When someone enters a forbidden word in a search engine, the Great Firewall immediately triggers a strong blockage that disable further searches. Google stopped its search service in mainland China on Monday and redirected “Google.cn” to already existing Gong Kong-based site. But before that Google returned censored results wanting its users to know about the omissions and hoping they would pressure the government to lift a ban. On Jan. 12 Google announced it would no longer censor results on its web search engine and decided to redirect the us! ers to Hong Kong, which is semiautonomous as it was a British! colony in the past.

Google: začala sa nová vojna?
by Barbora Misakova

Google: new war started?
by Barbora Misakova

Two months ago, the information about Google’s troubles with Chinese communist government, flied around the world. Internet giant has said it may end its operations in this Asian country following a cyber attack originating from the country. As Google announced, e-mail accounts of Chinese human rights activists were the primary target of the attack. Google’s will to stop censoring its Chinese search engine – google.cn – was beyond all questions. Even beyond closing the site and Chinese offices. Market leader Baidu has about 60 percent of the market while Google has only 31 percent. That’s why Baidu questions Google’s decision to quit for ! human rights issue. Chief architect of Baidu thinks it is for financial reasons. But what if Google is really sick of this constant censorship? Google launched google.cn in 2006 and even though they agreed to some censorship, today it seems like they just betrayed its company motto – don’t be evil. That’s why Google announced Monday that it has stopped censoring its Chinese-language search engine. As Google chief legal Officer David Drummond said: “Earlier today we stopped censoring our search services – Google Search, Google News, and Google Images – on Google.cn. Users visiting Google.cn are now being redirected to Google.com.hk, where we are offering uncensored search in simplified Chinese, specifically designed for users in mainland China and delivered via our servers in Hong Kong.” While in January they were thinking about leaving China, now the Internet giant plans to continue research and development work. Let’s see wha! t will happen. I have to admit I am very curious what the reac! tion of Chinese people will be like!

Wireless industry is not growth business any more
by Magdalena Rosova

Even though smartphones are the hottest area in technology, investors do not see potential and possibility of future growth in the area as subscriber gains slow. There is no doubt that smartphones will boost demand for wireless services like video, games or mobile web, but analysts are afraid that there will not be sustain revenue growth. About 90 percent of people in the United States already own cellphones. Mobile subscriber growth is notably slowing down in the US and expectations for new subscribers are very low. Because of the drop analysts expect mobile operators such as AT&T Inc and Verizon Communications Inc to focus on advanced mobile services. Operators can ! charge users of smartphones extra monthly money fees for advanced services, data services like Internet access or texting. However, that will not prevent revenues from falling. The revenue growth for the U.S. wireless industry was not more than 2.6 percent by the end of 2009. Bernstein analyst Craig Moffett says wireless industry was not a growing business any more. Moffett and many others analysts forecasts a 10 or even more percent drop in the following quarter. Pricing of services is another big issue. Operators Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint Nextel Corp and T-Mobile USA went down with prices to win customers from each other and to scupper Leap Wireless and MetroPCS Communications, which sell prepaid wireless services. Customers using prepaid wireless services easily change operator as they do not commit to long term. The companies now also need to upgrade their networks because smartphones demand heavy data and such upgrade can be very costly.

FCC to organize an auction but no one knows when
by Zivka Deleva

The U.S telecommunications regulator, Federal Communications Commission decided to organize new auction this summer for airwaves that didn’t make it last year when there was a spectrum auction. We are talking about the D-block, which includes 700 megahertz band of the airwaves which were valued at about $19 billion, when in 2008 other blocks were sold to carriers. Telecommunication companies are waiting intolerantly for the Commission to come up with its terms and condition, so they will know what to offer. The term “early summer” is still only a pale frame, because the Commission officials still haven’t set dates. It is very possible that the auct! ion which is meant to be organized for commercial purposes, off course, will take place not sooner than one year. Analysts say that this kind of auction would be very much welcomed for smaller carriers like, T-Mobile, so it can fight better with giant companies like AT&T and Verizon Wireless. This auction would be very important because the FCC cam finally bring a decision for one national wireless communications system for police, ambulances or firefighters. That is very important, because these categories could not communicate among each other during the terrorist attacks on September 11, and the Hurricane Katrina, as well. The Commission’s biggest interest is to create efficient public net for public safety workers when it is going to be necessary. For that, the Commission is planning to ask some money from the Congress, around $12 billion and $16 billion, during a ten year long period. The Federal Communications Commission is so called “independent agency! ” of the United States government. The majority of its c! ommissio ners are appointed by the president of the country. So, how independent this agency is, what do you think?

HTC sued over 20 patents
by Magdalena Rosova

Apple Inc sued cellphone developer HTC Corp for stealing its technology patent. HTP Corp said it can fight off a infringement lawsuit and it is planning to issue a formal response in the next few weeks. Apple brought lawsuit against HTC, accusing it of infringing on 20 iPhone technology patents. HTC makes phones based on software from Google and Microsoft, which are Apples biggest rivals. HTC said it would do everything to fight off the suit. HTC's vice president Jason Mackenzie said they felt confident about their innovation and they would defend themselves in the case. However, Mackenzie refused to be more specific about how HTC is planning its defense. Mackenzie on! ly promised to issue a formal response in few weeks. HTC disagrees with Aplle's actions and is determined to use all legal tools to fight for its rights. Although Apple did not name Google as a defendant, many analysts view the lawsuit as an attack on Google, as many phones made by HTC use Google's operating systems. For example Nexus One, which is also directly sold by Google. Mackenzie did not want to comment this aspect of the case and told reporters to direct such questions at Apple. Apple filed the lawsuit in U.S. International Trade Commission and the U.S. District Court in Delaware on March 2. In the lawsuit Apple seeks to prohibit HTC from selling, marketing or distributing infringing products in the United States. In the suit Apple lists the infringing products, which include also Nexus One. Among others listed phones there are for example the Hero, Dream and myTouch, which are using Google's Android mobile software.

Apple žaluje HTC za ukradnutie 20 patentov
by Magdalena Rosova

HTC takes a stand in Apple suit
by Zuzana Zelenakova

HTC Corporation took an official stand Wednesday concerning Apple lawsuit issued at the beginning of the month. Apple accused HTC of infringing technology patents on about 20 iPhones. “HTC disagrees with Apple’s actions and will fully defend itself. HTC strongly advocates intellectual property protection and will continue to respect other innovators and their technologies as we have always done, but we will continue to embrace competition through our own innovation as a healthy way for consumers to get the best mobile experience possible,” said Peter Chou, chief executive officer, HTC Corporation. HTC expressed its confidence pointing out the world-wide r! ecognition they receive for their work. HTC is the one that stands behind the first phone to the market that uses the Android mobile platform, the HTC Dream from 2008. The company received many awards, for example MIT Technology Review´s 50 Most Innovative Companies for 2010. In 2009, it introduced a user interface called HTC Sense developed for phones using Android and Windows Mobile systems. The first phone to feature the HTC Sense was HTC Hero introduced soon after. It is the third phone manufactured by the Taiwan-based company for the Android platform. The suit mentioned above was filed with the US International Commission as well as the US District Court in Delaware in March 2 with Apple seeking to ban selling the infringed HTC products in the US. Among the infringed goods are three mobile devices by HTC that run on Android system – Hero, Dream and Touch – as well as Nexus One, an Android smartphone from Google manufactured by HTC, which was released i! n January, 2010. The phone can for example transcribe voice to! text. " We feel confident in our innovation and our ability to defend ourselves in this case," Jason Mackenzie, vice president for HTC's U.S. business said.

IPad subscriptions could boost magazine circulation
by Magdalena Rosova

The iPad gives magazine publishers a new way to boost flagging circulation of magazines and newspapers. The Audit Bureau of Circulation announced its decision to change definition of a digital magazine. The definition will be changed due to the new class of tablet-style devices. The new rules set that publishers an count paid digital subscriptions as a part of a magazine circulation if digital version has all the same editorial and advertising material as printed magazine. The decision allows publishers to design articles and photos and accommodate the digital version for Apple Inc.'s iPad. The iPad will be in sell from April 3. Before the new rule the could only cou! nt digital versions that looked exactly the same as printed magazine. But magazines need first the Audit Bureau of Circulation to approve their software application for the iPad and other devices. The bureau has already approved software for Conde Nast's Wired magazine that will be available from June. IPad versions of GQ, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair and Glamour will also come in future. Subscriptions on already existing e-readers, such as Amazon Inc.'s Kinde, do not count as they do not have any ads. The task for publishers is now to get readers to pay for their digital application. Few magazines and newspapers have already persuaded large numbers of people to pay for the digital version. For example, about 6,800 people downloaded the first issue of GQ's iPhone application for $2.99. The digital version meets the new rules of the Audit Bureau. The magazine's overall circulation is almost 900,000 and so the number of subscription may look insignificant. But it is just! the beginning of the process. The number of people that downl! oaded se cond issue in January more than doubled to about 15,100.

Federal Agents Quietly Using Social Media
by Magdalena Rosova

Maxi Sopo, accused of bank fraud charges, escaped to Mexico and enjoyed his life so much that decided to post about it on Facebook so that all his friend could read about his new adventures. But unfortunately, a federal prosecutor in Seattle watched it as well. The prosecutor tracked Sopo's friend and found his address in Mexico. Sopo was arrested by Mexican authorities and now is awaiting extradition to the U.S. Sopo learned that the federals are on Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn ad Twitter as well. It was very costly lecture. Law enforcement agents are using popular social-networking sites to track the wanted persons and to gather information about them. The Electroni! c Frontier Foundation, civil liberties group based in San Francisco, sued the Justice Department and five other agencies. The group wanted to fore the government to stop using social networking. When sued the government, the fundation received a document of Justice Department. An internal Justice Department document revealed that U.S. agents secretly log into internet social sites to exchange messages with suspected persons. They try to identify a target's friends and relatives and they search for private information about the suspects. Investigators can for example use the personal information such as postings, pictures or videos to check the suspects' alibi. For investigators social networks are great source of information. The Justice document says that “Knowledge is power.” In the past federals monitored AOL and MSN chat rooms to find sexual predators. But today's social services contain more worthy information. The social medias are literally treasur! es for agents. But the document does describe any boundaries f! or using the social medias. According to an Internal Revenue Service document IRS employees can not use deception or create fake accounts in order to get information. The Department of Justice says that its agents use social networking legally and they follow internal rules. However, the department refuses to uncover what those rules are.

Google's Nexus One far behind Apple's iPhone
by Zivka Deleva

Surprisingly or not, it seems like the best search engine Google that decided to put some efforts in mobile telephones as well, didn’t succeed as expected. Google’s Nexus One smartphone definitely experienced big failure. In the first 74 days of sale, the numbers are astonishing different. Google sold scarcely 135.000 Nexus One units. Someone will ask why precisely 74 days? It is because three years ago, at the same timeframe, Apple sold 1 million iPhone units! And Motorola’s Droid sold even 50.000 more units! Nexus One is the first fully branded handset. OK, numbers say everything, or almost everything! If iPhone was the first of the smartphones on market it had the big task to attract people and it did. On the other hand, maybe that is one of the reasons shy Motorola had even bigger success when promoted it’s Droid. Other important reasons for Google’s flop might be the fact that it started selling at the end of the shopping season, unlike its! rivals and it decided to sell only by its own web site, rather than in stores! And, in fact, Google didn’t spend a lot of money on marketing the smartphone. "Google Nexus One may go down as a grand, failed experiment or one that ultimately helped Google learn something that will prove important in years to come. Apple's more vertically integrated strategy vs. Google's more open Android platform approach offer strengths and weaknesses that remind us of PC vs. Mac from the 1980's," – wrote Peter Farago from mobile analytics company Flurry, that made the research. On the other hand, Google management is satisfied with its mobile first newborn. According to some experts, Google’s goal is to influence with its the Android software. You can buy Nexus One for $529 or if contracted with T-Mobile, you can buy it for $179. When it first came, iPhone costed $600 and Droid, on the other hand was only $200.

„Gugl“ prodade edvaj 135.000 primeroci. Nekoj bi se zaprašal zošto točno 74 dena? Toa e poradi toa što pred tri godini, vo istata vremenska ramka, „Epl“ prodade 1 milion primeroci od „Ajfoun“! A, „Droid“ na „Motorola! “ prodade duri 50.000 povekje! Cisco systems unveils super-fast Internet router
by Magdalena Rosova

Brand new super-fast Internet router was introduced by Cisco system on Tuesday. The hardware has 12 times the traffic capacity of other competing systems. Use of Internet became the every day part of our lives. People around the world are accessing rich content such as TV online, videos, and television shows. Most gadgets connecting to the Internet demand such content. With the new router rich content on Internet will be much more accessible. Chief executive of Cisco France Laurent Blanchard believes the new router would become the third generation of Internet. Blanchard further suggests that their new hardware would boost US competitiveness and speed up the economic rec! overy. The router is able to move unbelievable quantity of information at shocking speed. Blanchard says it could download the whole collection of the Library of Congress in just one second. Using the new system all people in China would be able to make a video call at the same time. Every motion picture would be streamed in less than four minutes. AT&T , provider of local and long distance telephone services in the United States is prepared to begin using the system and it plans to switch the router in the US in about two years. The system should be interesting for Google, which recently said it would like to create its own high-speed broadband Internet network. However, the another Cisco chief executive John Chambers warns it would take long time to deploy the hardware. Many things in infrastructure need to be changed before people can have benefit of the new system.

Avatar Provoked 3D TVs to Enter Homes
by Zivka Deleva

It seems like the electronic industry never sleeps! It has at least one eye opened to watch what’s going on in the world, what do consumers need, or like and that comes with the next big step and creates history. Knowing how essential the technology is for modern people’s lives, big companies created techs addicts that simply have to buy what’s new on the market. Now it’s time for the 3D televisions to enter on a big door in our homes. At the same time, giant electronics companies announced that they are going to give more excitement to the movie fans at home. Aware of how big influence the spectacular “Avatar” had on the public worldwide! , “Panasonic”, “Sony”, “Samsung Electronics” definitely don’t sleep with the two eyes closed. It seems like the rivals have found themselves a new item to fight for. And thanks to the Oscar-ignored “Avatar”, the animated “Up”, “Alice in the Wonderland”, the interest in 3D movies has spread as a storm. After “Sony” announced its 2010 plans, the competition came up with its own products. The world’s biggest TV maker - “Samsung Electronics Co Ltd” after launching the 3D TVs in South Korea is planning to globalize the three-dimensional visual effects at home and to sell at least 2 million samples this year only. Japanese leader “Sony Corp” plans to start selling 3D TVs in Japan in June. The intention is for a 46-inch screen to sell for $3,875 and for 40-inch model it would want about $3223. Only the 3D glasses are going to cost about $130. At about the sam! e time, “Sony” plans to conquer the American marke! t. R 20;Panasonic Corp.” on the other hand, is ready to win over US 3D TVs fans, starting tomorrow. Time will show who is going to succeed in convincing the public the most!

Google to Create TV Program Search Engine
by Milota Sidorova

Gossips in New York say that world number 1 search engine Google Inc and the U.S. Number 2 satellite TV operator Dish network Corp are testing new feature that enables program searching via TV the same way as it does on internet. The search service will work partly on Google's wireless operating system Android and TV set-top boxes. Program service will be accessible equally from TV sets as well as from internet. According unofficial information the feature will represent personalized searching environment for TV programs. Customer should enter key words or another input information and the list of results will be available as we know it from Youtube. Shortly it will be smar! t and interactive TV program 24 hours a day. Developing such feature makes sense in the times when most of TV channels have also theirs internet alternative. Not only that, most of TV makers are developing traditional TV sets with internet access. Both media are becoming inseparable. American TiVo Inc has been already competing the market with such product. Dish and its sister company EchoStar are another providers, but along with TiVo they run patent dispute over hybrid product. Google entered the business with Google Search Appliance in 2002, extending the portfolio with document search technology Mini in 2005. The list of product name its email account Gmail, photobanks, free websites, Youtube and many more. It also sells thematic packages for example as Google Apps Premier Edition – for business users in 2007. The platform Andorid is vivid rival to Windows or Apple's OS X.

After 3D movies, 3D TV sets are coming
by Barbora Misakova

Three-dimensional movies are motion pictures made by special cameras that record images as seen from two perspectives. Then special projection hardware and in the past also eyewear provide the illusion of depth. That gives you a feeling you are in the movie, its scenes and not in the theatre. These kinds of movies have existed in some form since 1890, but their production and projection were too costly. But today’s era of digital media enables their resurgence what is seen not only in the increasing number of newly produced 3D movies, but also in the production of 3D TVs. As techniques of three-dimensional presentation are in the frame for attract viewers more than st! andard TV sets, it is understood the will be very popular. The Nikkei business daily informed on Sunday, that Panasonic Corp. will work shoulder to shoulder with the top U. S. electronics chain Best Buy Co. This cooperation should market and boost sales of Panasonic’s 3D TVs in the USA. This report is also warning for other TV makers such as Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, LG Electronics Inc and Sony Corp. they are not alone on the US market. People living in major U. S. cities will have opportunity to view 3D videos in 300 Best Buy stores where the special exhibition corners will be set up. And what about the price? A 50-inch TV will cost about $2,500. According to report, the US price of Panasonic’s 3D TVs will be about 30 percent cheaper than in Japan, but won’t have internet access capabilities. If the firm’s expectation of 1 million 3D TVs sold in one financial year fulfill, the time will show…

Najskôr 3D filmy, potom 3D televízory
by Barbora Misakova

Obchodný denník Nikkei v nedeľu informoval, že spoločnosť Panasonic bude spolupracovať s popredným elektronickým reťazcov Best Buy Co. Táto spolupráca by mala viesť k väčšej ponuke a najmä k oživeniu predaja 3D televízorov v USA. A aká bude cena?

Mind-reading computers turn heads at high-tech fair
by Magdalena Rosova

Devices allowing people to write letters of play pinball just using the power of their brains were the biggest boom at the world's biggest high-tech fair. Crowds were lured to see a man wearing a cap with electrodes playing pinball with great proficiency without using hands. The electrodes monitor the brain waves associated with the man's thoughts and send the information to a computer, which moves the flippers. Scientist believe the technology invention may be used for more than just a fun. They are researching ways to monitor drivers' brain waves to improve reaction times in a crash. Scientists say that in an emergency stop situation, the brain kicks in about 200! milliseconds before driver reacts. Michael Tangermann from the Berlin Brain Computer Interface said that in an emergency situation drivers automatically braked. The scientists do not want to take away that kind of control, but they realize that there are many things the car can do in the crucial time, for example tighten the seat belt. A car using the brain-wave monitoring technology can also warn driver when he is sleepy and advise him to take a brake. Another gadget allows users to control robots by brain power. Scientists also developed a similar electrode cap that allows people to write without using their hands. The computer register the stimulated brain waves of the person and the chosen letters appear on the screen. It takes about four minutes to write a word of five letters, but researchers believes that they will speed the technology up in the future. The technology is ideal for disabled people, it may help them to communicate and control devices using ! the brain.

Apple files suit against HTC
by Zuzana Zelenakova

Apple Inc. filed a suit against Taiwan smartphone maker on Tuesday for infringing about 20 of its iPhone patents. Steve Jobs, Apple´s chief executive commented the company´s move: "We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it.” "We've decided to do something about it. We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours," he added. The company that created fancy gadgets such as iPod or Macintosh computer accused HTC of stealing patents concerning hardware, user interface and others belonging to the iPod. HTC Corporation, or High Tech Computer Corp! oration, is the manufacturer of Google´s the Nexus One smartphone, that uses Android operating system, launched in January, 2010. It is widely speculated that the lawsuit is in fact and indirect attack on Google as many of the HTC smartphones mentioned in the accusations use Google´s open source Android operating system, including HTC Dream, also marketed as T-mobile G1 in the US and Europe, which was the first phone using the Android mobile device platform. "It's probably simpler for them to go after the company making the infringing goods, which is HTC. It's easier to prove at this point," says Mark Simpson, patent attorney from Saul Ewing based in Philadelphia. Among others mentioned in the suit are the HTC Touch Pro, the HTC Touch Diamond, or the HTC Tilt. Lawsuits such as this are common practice among technology companies. For example, Apple is currently being sued by Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia. Another recent dispute concerns the Blacberry maker Motio! n accused of patent infringement by Motorola. In an official s! tatement as response to the lawsuit HTC issued that it had not had the opportunity to look into the matter more closely. "Until we have had this opportunity, we are unable to comment on the validity of the claims being made against HTC."

Iracké ženy usilujú o silnejšie postavenie v politike
by Zuzana Zelenakova

„Odfotili nás s americkým prezidentom a ministrom zahraničných vecí,“ hovorí ďalšia členka parlamentu Safia Taleb al-Souhail. ;i rozvod.

TiVo unveils new set-top box
by Magdalena Rosova

TiVo Inc introduced a brand new television set-top box that besides ordinary program listing allows finding videos from Web outlets such as YouTube. TiVo, famous for awesome digital TV recording, will offer its “Premiere” box this April at starting price $300. The Premiere box will be availabe at Best Buy and Amazon.com. Users of the new TV set will be able to find myriad videos via a single system. TiVo wanted to differentiate itself from digital video recorders (DVR) offered by cable and satellite providers. DVRs are favorite among people for their ability to record shows, pause live TV and skip commercials. DVRs are distributed free by cable companies, bu! t they luck many of TiVo's features. TiVo will offer two models, first one that holds 45 hours of HD content will be available for $300 and the second one that holds 150 hours will cost $500. Providers such as Time Warner or Cablevision have handed out millions of DVRs. Customers of these providers pay a monthly fee, which is cheaper than TiVo's. Analyst James McQuivey thinks that even though TiVo offered more benefits, it was more comfortable for customers to stay with their cable providers. TiVo's new innovation is good for its current customers who can simply upgrade to better version. McQuivey does not expect new customers to join. The new box was built on a flash platform, it uses Adobe Flash software. That means the system can work with related tools and services made by outside developers. TiVo has DVR deals with providers Comcast, RCN Corp, and Virgin Media. RCN is the only provider that will distribute the new boxes this year.

TiVo predstavuje nový digitálny set-top box
by Magdalena Rosova

5;rov. Poskytovatelia ako Time Warner or Cablevision rozdal! i už ; viac ako milión digitálnych setov. TiVo uzavrel! dohody s poskytovateľmi digitálnej televízie Comcast, RCN Corp a Virgin Media, avšak iba RCN bude distribuovať nové sety už tento rok.

Absolute safety?
by Barbora Misakova

Today, not human life but information is the most important thing from all. It must be protected not to get to wrong hands which could misuse them. In the era of Internet communication, when the information is easily accessible, cyber attacks are just common component of our daily life, and we even don’t know about it. It is like a modern form of espionage. And as these cyber attacks are more and more sophisticated, it is a job of information technology providers to not only predict them but also protect against them. The fact that some kind of information is more important than human life is proved by the new security intelligence center which was built in the time o! f the biggest economy crisis. The Pentagon’s biggest contractor – Lockheed Martin Corp is opening its second internal security intelligence center this week. The first one opened in 2008 in Gaithersburg will have a new brother in Denver. As analysts and software developers say, the cyber security problem is a complex chess match between U. S. government and a host of smart attackers from nation states and criminal groups. Eric Hutchnis, a Lockheed cyber intelligence analyst, says there is 1 million “incidents” a day; they have to sort through and identify those activities with highest-risk. Biggest approach, not only Lockheed’s, is to try to get ahead of the threats. As there is always a chance to be attacked, you can never be protected on 100 percent. That’s the reason why Lockheed is working to increase the resilience of networks that would enable them to operate even if they were attacked. But it is still not a victory. While there are! threats changing every single day, then there never will be a! bsolute safety.

Stopercentná bezpečnosť?
by Barbora Misakova

Často si to ani sami neuvedomujeme.

Is WAC a real solution or a distraction?
by Milota Sidorova

Do you think the time when one software application is able to work on every device is coming? Some think it is, some not. Wholesale Applications Community (WAC) that was created just about two weeks ago aims to offer such unified platform. Developers will have to make an application only once and then make it work on any carrier, device or OS. In general, it seems to be pretty good idea, but right, you can smell a lot of technological problems in the air. To mention just few of them – a successful update of WAC platform will be probably conditioned by phone's or device's operating system update. And if it's not working through air and is more than easy process it is! not working for many customers. According researches, most of the customers and technological equipment users have no IT knowledge and are not keen on spending hours to keep their devices updated. And that's probably the biggest problem of Apple App Store. It says it is providing several thousands applications, but let's talk about the demand and the quality. Most of them are working well or on average level. Most of them have no real function, one could say it is only improving a visage of device. But if mobile operators, application and platform developers could provide the exact product demanded by the market, it would save the enormous energy and campaigns to steal App Store. Ok, WAC was also created to rival Apple software that is currently dominating the market. But hundred of perfectly working apps covering the major customers could face even thousands of unknown apps.WAC platform would have to kill some more bugs. It would have to deal with hundreds, perhaps thousa! nds devices and handsets – it means hundreds or thousand! s of dis play resolutions, input options (meaning to keyboard, trackball), processing power, background applications or GPS.So far the only universally working app is web. This may be the option for unifying the system. But it may be not. WAC has been joined by AT&T, China Mobile, Orange, Verizon, Sprint, LiMo and many other operators around the globe, as well as device manufacturers LG, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Motorola or Panasonic.
